Chapter 5
After teaming up with her fake husband, Selina found herself standing outside the city hall, feeling a little lost. Pulling out her phone, she scrolled through her contacts. With a hesitant bite of her lip, she tapped on a number.
The other line picked up quickly, and there was a warm, raspy voice laced with a hint of mischief. “Selina, what’s going down? Missing me!”
“Lydia.” Just hearing that voice made Selina’s voice thick with emotion, her eyes brimming with tears.
“Whoa, what’s up! Selina, you sound like you’re about to cry. Did the Harvey family mess with you? I swear, they’ve got another thing coming!”
“No, Lyddia…. L.. I just really need to see you. Where are you!” said Selina
“Chill, Selina. I’m over in Sokovis. Hang tight–1 shoot you the address.”
Selina made a beeline for a posh apartment in downtown Sokovis and almost crashed into a striking figure wearing Pikachu pajamas. “Selina!” They hugged each other hard.
“Lydia.” It was the kind of hug that felt like home. Not a daydream. Selina couldn’t keep her tears back any longer.
Lydia Wallace’s expression softened at the sight. She remembered the last time Selina had fallen apart like this, they and their fellow students were penniless, fresh out on their own struggling to make a name for themselves. “Come on, let’s head upstairs” she said.
Once they were settled in Lydia’s place and Selina spilled the beans, Lydia was furing mad. “I thought you hit the jackpot with your real folks…
They had all been orphans, learning the ropes together under their mentor. When Selina found her birth parents, their whole gang was thrilled for her. They all knew what it felt like to crave a family’s love. Without their mentor’s tough love, who knew where they’d be! But nobody saw coming what a train wreck the Harvey family would be–selling a big sub story about replaceing their long–lost daughter, only to give her the cold shoulder. If Selina hadn’t kept it under wraps, Lydia would’ve been in the dark, believing all was well. Selina isn’t just some stray the Harvey family picked ups she’s family, flesh and blood. How could they just tar her away like that? Lydia sighed inwardly.
If Lydia knew the hill of Selina’s rough past, she’d be off the charts livid.
“It’s done, Lydia. I’m done with them. Once Tm out, I’m free. I gave
ve them everything, and now I’m taking my life back,” stated Selina
Selina would be lying if she said there was no bitterness. But they weren’t worth her time. She paid a tough price in her past, anal with this second shot, she just wanted a life all her own and stayed away from the Harvey farmily. And if they stood in her way again, they’d regret it.
Lydia said, “Alright, Selina. First thing tomorrow, we get your registration sorted. Screw the Harvey family. You’ve got us–and we’ve got your back.”
“That’s right, Lydia. Forget the damne Harvey family. I’ve got you all, and that’s enough Selina’s eyes lit up with genuine warmth as she cuddled into Lydia’s arm
Lydia was the big sister, stroking Selina’s hair like old times back when they were kids in training
Deep down, Selina couldn’t be more thankful. Even faced with the Harvey family’s true colors, she still had the love of her friends
The Selina of before had been naive, hanging on to something that wasn’t really hers. But not this time–this time she wouldn’t let anything slip through her fingers
As night took over, S–City’s downtown came alive with lights and energy. One hotspot was an underground gem, Starlight Club, known for its vibe ared exclusivity. People needed reservations and Tickets to get in, and sometimes, ticket scalpers pumped the prices sky high. This club was a playground for the city’s well–off youngsters
Starlight Club wasn’t just about drinks, it was a music sanctuary, famous for bringing in world–class underground bands nightly. If one were tuned into the rock scene, they knew Starlight Club–a place known for its premium booze, beautiful crowd, and euphoric atmosphere. It was a magnet for the party–loving youth.
A sleek convertible BMW rolled up to Starlight Club, and Lydia hopped out with Selina
Ditching her sunglasses, Lydia clipped them to her collared t–shirt. She was all rock–chic, with a black leather jacket, knee–high boots, black tights, and the right touch of makeup. She transformed from the girl greeting Selina in cutesy pajamas to a total knockout. Her purple contacts added an extra pop
Selina kept it low–key a plain white tee, blue jeans, and crisp white kicks. Her hair, tied with a black rose, spilled over her shoulders. Her natural look was a head–turner, especially those starry eyes that seemed to hold secrets of the universe.
The club staff checked Lydia’s invitation letter and welcomed them inside with a nod of
respect.
Starlight Club’s decor was out of this world, quite literally–a courus theme with planets and stars against the dark ceiling made for a stellar sight. The bar smelled amazing, mixing with the strong scent of top–notch spirits.

The audience, a blend of the city’s posli crowd, lounged on phish sofas from Eldoria, drinks in hand, and engaged in lively conversations
Lydia glanced at Selina. “You didn’t have to come along. Don’t you need to sort your papers tomorrowe
“It’s cool, Lydia. Tye shut the door on the Harvey family and I’m feeling lighter. News, I’m just figuring out my next move. Being here with you is enough for now. I’ll be rooting for you from the crowd.”
“Alright.” I yafia laughed. “Just wait till you see me pound those drums. Gralia seat wherever, and here’s my card–have a blast on me. I’m gonna head backstage, Catch you after the show”
