Chapter 99
By the third night, we were exhausted, our nerves frayed. The crypt loomed before us, the air thick with the scent of decay and ancient secrets. We approached cautiously, the sound of our footsteps echoing off the moss-covered stones. Becca and Elana waited for us and as we approached, I whispered, "Remember, "stay sharp. We don't know what's waiting for us inside."
"Got it," they all replied.
As we began trying to open the crypt, we found the heavy weight of the door a hinderance, but when we finally got it open, Sterling hissed, "What the ever-loving actual fuck?"
The air inside was stale, thick with the scent of decay and the faint whiff of something... more. Something ancient and powerful.
The contents of the Crypt was unlike anything I had ever seen before, and it sent a chill down my spine. But despite the eerie contents it didn't hold the Book of Blood.
"Shit," Sterling whispered, his eyes scanning the dusty shelves. "It's not here."
"Keep looking," I urged. "It has to be here."
Lyra, however, remained by the entrance, her eyes fixed on the crypt's ceiling. "Do you feel that?" she asked, her voice strained.
We all stopped, focusing on the faint vibration in the air. It grew stronger, until the ground beneath us was trembling again.
"Elena," I murmured, fear creeping into my voice. "She's found us."
We bolted out of the crypt, our hearts racing as the tremors grew more intense. We had to get out of there before the whole forest collapsed around us.
"This way," Elara said, pointing to a narrow path that led deeper into the forest. "We have to move quickly, before she catches up."
"How did she replace us?" Sterling demanded, his voice tight with tension.
"It doesn't matter," I replied, pushing aside a low-hanging branch. "We have to replace the book before she does."
"But how can we outrun her?" Becca's voice was laced with fear. "Her power is..."
"I know," I interrupted. "But we can't let that stop us. We have to trust that we're on the right path."
We sprinted down the trail, the tremors growing more pronounced with each step. It was as if the very earth was trying to shake us off its back.
The path grew steeper, the trees closer together. The moon was high in the sky, casting a silver light that barely pierced the dense canopy above. We could hear the distant sounds of battle, the cries of our allies fighting the vampires Elena had sent to slow us down.
"We're close," I panted, checking the map that had led us here. "Very close."
"But are we closer than she is?" Sterling countered, his eyes darting around the woods.
Lyra was silent, her focus solely on keeping up with our pace. Her eyes had taken on a faint glow, a testament to the power that now flowed through her veins.

The tremors grew so intense that we had to stop running. The ground was shaking too much, the trees groaning and swaying like drunken giants.
"We need to replace shelter," I said, scanning the area.
"There," Elara pointed to a small cave hidden by the dense underbrush. "It might be our only chance."
We stumbled towards it, the earth heaving beneath us. As we ducked inside, the tremors ceased. The cave was small, but it felt like a sanctuary.
We huddled together, our breaths coming in ragged gasps. The silence was deafening after the chaos outside.
"Why did she stop?" Sterling whispered.
"Because she knows we're here," Lyra said, her voice low. "She's waiting for us to come out."
We shared a tense look, knowing that we had to come up with a plan before Elena found us. "We can't stay here," I said, my voice echoing in the cave. "We need to keep moving." "But where?" Becca's voice was shaky. "We don't know where the book is now."
"We have to replace it," Lyra said firmly. "It's the only way to stop her."

We nodded in agreement, and Elara began chanting, her hands tracing patterns in the air. The magic was faint at first, but grew stronger, until it was a pulsing force that resonated through the cave. "I've got it," she said, her eyes snapping open. "The book is north of here, but it's moving."
"That means Elena's on the move with it," I said, my eyes meeting hers. "We have to be quick." "Let's go," Sterling said, his hand tightening on his sword. "We can't let her get away with it."
Lyra nodded, her eyes blazing with determination. "We can't fail. The fate of the world is at stake."
We emerged from the cave into the moonlit night, the forest eerily still after the tumultuous earthquake. The ground was littered with fallen branches and rocks, a stark reminder of the power Elena wielded. "Follow me," Elara whispered, her eyes closed as she traced the path of the book's magic. We moved swiftly, the silver light guiding our steps.
The path grew narrower, the trees leaning in as if to swallow us whole. We could feel the tension in the air, the sense that we were being herded towards something.
"Be ready," I murmured, my hand on the hilt of my sword. "We're walking into a trap."
The forest opened up into a clearing, and there it was: the Book of Blood, floating in mid-air, surrounded by a circle of vampires. Elena stood in the center, the stone in one hand, the book in the other. "You're too late," she cackled, her eyes alight with triumph. "The prophecy will be fulfilled!"
