Oops, I’ve Been Exposed
Chapter 24 by Lorelei Thunder

“Thanks for all the work you’ve done and the money you’ve spent. You can leave the rest to us!” Shane said excitedly.

The excitement on his face was clear. He really wanted Woody to get out of jail as soon as possible.

Dickson and Trudy were delighted to hear that. That meant Shane had some money on hand. Their trip here wasn’t for nothing.

“How much do you need?” Mindy asked cautiously.

Mindy was different from Shane. She was just a regular housewife with a normal education. She rarely got the chance to interact with different people and matters. So, she wasn’t really knowledgeable.

That was why Dickson and Trudy looked down on them.

Shane had Alzheimer’s disease, and Mindy was oblivious. It was a piece of cake to fool them both.

Trudy declared without a second thought, “100 thousand dollars.”

Dickson was taken aback. He quickly gave Trudy a look.

They had agreed to ask for 50 thousand dollars on the way here. Why did she suddenly double the amount?

What if that amount scared Shane and Mindy off? It wouldn’t be worth it. Everything they had done would be wasted.

The only money that mattered was the money that they could actually get. Everything else was pointless.

“What? A hundred thousand dollars? That’s a lot!” Mindy was stunned. Her expression changed drastically.

Dickson felt his heart skip a beat. Was their scheme done for?

He cursed at Trudy inwardly for suddenly changing the amount. It was unclear if Shane had that much money. They wouldn’t even get a penny if their plans fell through.

Trudy ignored the glances Dickson shot at her.

She said confidently, “Are you country bumpkins? 100 thousand dollars really isn’t a lot.

“Didn’t you always say that Woody graduated from a prestigious school and is a capable person? Wouldn’t he at least be able to make a couple hundred thousand dollars a year after he gets out?”

Shane nodded. “That’s for sure. It’s not an issue for Woody. I trust his capabilities.”

Trudy added, “If he can make 300 thousand dollars a year. It would be 150 thousand dollars for six months. You’ll still be up 50 thousand dollars.

“Any other person wouldn’t have helped even if they were paid 200 thousand, or even 300 thousand dollars. They only agreed to help because it was my husband who asked.

“Even then, they were reluctant to agree. You will never get another chance like this.”

Dickson dropped the anxious act and said in a profound tone, “I had to buy my superior drinks for two weeks straight to get him to help Woody. I drank so much that I was hospitalized.”

Mindy said with hesitation, “But 100 thousand dollars is too much. We don’t have that kind of money…”

“You’re really going to let Woody rot in jail because you can’t pay a measly amount like 100 thousand dollars? What would he think if he found out?

“He would blame us, his family, for only caring about the money and not his well-being.”

Trudy began to guilt-trip them.

“Or don’t you trust what we’ve said? Don’t forget that we were the ones who tried our hardest to convince the Donnels to issue the letter of forgiveness. If we didn’t do that, Woody would have to spend at least ten years in jail.”

Dickson feigned anger. “Also, did you think the money you scraped together by selling your house and borrowing 100 thousand from a loan shark was enough?

“We were the ones that covered the additional costs. Mr. Donnel is from a rich family. Did you really think your money was enough to get him to sign the letter of forgiveness? Dream on!”

Dickson and Trudy were completely in sync. They looked at Shane and Mindy huffily. It looked like they would leave if Shane and Mindy disagreed with them in the slightest.
