Oops, I’ve Been Exposed -
Chapter 25 by Lorelei Thunder
Mindy quickly replied, “Please don’t be angry. I didn’t mean that. Why would I ever doubt your sincerity? You’re Woody’s in-laws. You definitely have his best interest at heart.
“Of course, I want Woody to be released as soon as possible. Even one day would be great. I apologize if my words offended you. Please don’t hold it against an ignorant old woman like me.
Shane raised his hand and cut Mindy off. He said seriously, “We have to come up with this money.”
Trudy and Dickson glanced at each other. They were overjoyed. They had succeeded.
A hundred thousand dollars was quite a lot of money. They considered this money the first bit of interest they would be getting back from Woody.
They planned to get more from him in the future.
“But where will we get that much money?” Mindy asked.
Shane said firmly, “If we don’t have enough, we’ll borrow some. Call our relatives, friends, and colleagues. There’s Sasha, too. Ask her to think of something. We’ll definitely be able to scrape together this money.”
Mindy complained, “Do you think it’s so easy to borrow money? Did you forget what happened four years ago? We had to ask everyone, beg them even. But did we get the money?”
If they managed to borrow the money, Shane wouldn’t have needed to borrow from loan sharks. He spent three and a half years repaying them. The interest incurred was even higher than the total amount they borrowed.
He had just cleared his debts with the loan sharks four months ago.
They lived a life of poverty. Even their daughter, Sasha, had to suffer with them. She never got to buy new clothes in the past four years.
She wore her uniform to school every day and used stationery they picked up from trash cans. It made her feel like she was beneath her classmates.
“Sasha had just graduated, and you’re asking her to borrow money? Will she even be able to pull it off?”
Shane said resolutely, “We can borrow from the loan sharks again. The three of us are earning money together this time. The situation is better than four years ago. We’ll definitely be able to repay the debt.”
Trudy regretted her decision. She would’ve asked for more if she had known it would be so easy to trick Shane. She lamented how merciful she was.
“You have to get the money as soon as possible. The person hates waiting. They might decide not to help if the money isn’t deposited by the end of the morning,” Dickson said pretentiously.
Shane was so anxious his forehead was covered in sweat. “I’ll replace the loan sharks’ number and give them a call.”
“I’ll help you replace it.” Mindy followed him into the room.
Dickson smiled slyly. He whispered to Trudy, “When we get the money, we’ll tell them that the person changed their mind and is asking for 200 thousand dollars more.
“If they aren’t willing to pay up, the 100 thousand dollars won’t be returned, either. They have no choice but to get led on by us. We’ll ask for more and more until we get every last cent they have.”
Trudy’s expression lit up. She secretly gave Dickson a thumbs up. “You’re so smart, honey. We’ll do just that.”
They were about to get 100 thousand dollars. They were overjoyed.
Trudy was so happy she could barely maintain a straight face.
A tall silhouette was standing outside the gate. The hands that were holding the bags of gifts were clenched so hard that the knuckles paled.
Woody had arrived at the house a few moments ago. He could hear the four of them talking very clearly as he stood on the street.
He was so angry that his lips were quivering.
He had been thinking on the way to the house. That woman had to be mistaken. Shane was a history professor at the University of Tiusto. He couldn’t possibly live in a place like this.
Now, he finally understood why.
