Our Journey Back To Love -
Chapter 69
Chapter 69
A shadow passed over Brian’s face. ‘Tell her to come here.”
Walking around too much would put a strain on Brian’s injured leg.
Bernard did as he was told and walked toward Stella. He stopped behind her and said impassively, “Briant
wants to see you.
Stella turned around and scowled when she saw Bernard.
He suddenly stepped forward, his eyes gleaming as he whispered into her ear, “I didn’t tell him about your bargain with Mrs. Foley.”
Stella regarded him icily. “And?”
“And I’d like you to promise me something in return.”
“Why should I promise you anything at all? Stella shot back
Bernard pointed out, “Think about it, Stella: Brian hates your father’s guts for what the man did to him.
“If Brian replaces out about the deal you struck with Mrs. Foley, he might get angry and press a few more
charges against your dad.
“If that happens, your dad could likely spend his old age behind bars.”
Stella leveled a stare at Bernard. “What did I do to make you hate me so much, Bernard? I’ve already agreed to divorce Brian. What more do you want from me?”
Bernard’s gaze fell on her side profile. He sighed and said, “Don’t worry, whatever I’m doing will help you
finalize your divorce with Brian.
*Just promise me this one thing and I guarantee the divorce will proceed without hindrance.”
It seemed everyone was willing to work to see Stella and Brian’s marriage dissolved.
Stella barked a humorless laugh. “Fine, then. If your plans will help me sort out the divorce with Brian, ITI
gladly work together with you.”
Just then, Brian’s cold voice sounded from the door. “What’s going on here?”
Bernard and Stella turned to look at him…
Brian had grown impatient while waiting for Stella to show up. Using the walker, he made his way out of
the room to see what was taking Bernard so long.
A light sheen of perspiration had broken out over his forehead, and he looked like his leg was hurting.
Stella blinked at Brian and demanded, “What are you doing out here?”
“To see what you guys are up to,” Brian said, fixing his gaze on Bernard and Stella. He took in their
proximity; they seemed to be talking about something in secret.
Bernard and Stella made an unlikely pair, especially when it came to whispering secretively.
Brian looked grim as he looked at Stella. “You,” he bit out, “Come here.”
Stella noted his limited movements and grew worried that he might fall. As such, she went over to hold.
him by the arm. “Till help you back to the room.”
Brian did not take his eyes off her. He stared at her intensely as if trying to see through her thoughts.
Stella kept quiet as she lowered her gaze and helped him back to bed.
Brian sat down.
She stood before him, seemingly waiting for him to speak.
“Going after Yoel isn’t enough for you? Now you’ve set your eyes on claiming Bernard too?” Brian asked accusatorily, his gaze pinning her down like she was prey.
Stella was incredulous to learn that Brian thought she was seducing Bernard. She couldn’t help the laugh
that escaped her.
“What’s so funny?” Brian demanded through gritted teeth, glowering at her with a hailstorm in his eyes. We haven’t even divorced yet, and already you’re seducing other men under my roof!
“Are you that desperate, Stella? Are you so deprived of love that you’d settle for Bernard? Do you have any respect for me at all?”
“Deprived? Desperate?” Stella eyed Brian venomously and suddenly laughed. “Maybe I am both those
things.
“We’re over, Brian, I’m in desperate need of someone who can pay for my upkeep. I don’t see why I can’t gather my choices. At least I’ll have a spare if one of the men isn’t interested in me.”
Brian ground out, “What did you just say?” His expression was tight, and he couldn’t believe the words
that had come out of Stella’s mouth.
Stella grinned. “It’s not like there’s any hope of us working out in the long run, Brian. I don’t see a point in
putting on a show for you.
“That’s right, I want a lot of things in life that you can’t give me. I figured I’d start looking for someone who
can.”
Brian already thought of her as a person full of schemes. She might as well play the part.
All she wanted out of this was a divorce; the ends justified the means.
“Bernard likes Jessica, If seducing him is what you’re doing, you won’t succeed.” Brian pointed out sourly,
“And you’d be delusional to think Yoel would marry you!
