Chapter 73

Brian snapped. “It’s none of your business

Stella paused. She took up the necktie and carefully slid it under his shirt collar, expertly knotting it.

He was right. Now that he had Jessica to take care of him, Stella wasn’t needed anymore. She doubted a

gently–bred woman like Jessica wouldn’t know how to tie a necktie,

When Stella was done with the tie, she took up collar pins and secured them just above the ends of

Brian’s shirt collar.

The man before her was handsome, cold, and distant. A portrait of impeccability.

“There we go,” she said, smiling at her handiwork. She was about to step away when Brian’s arm wrapped around her waist and pulled her close.

She looked up to see his chiseled features mere inches away from hers. They were so close that the tips

of their noses almost touched.

Brian asked in a low, hushed voice. “Is there anything else you’d like to say?”

Stella could feel his warm breath caressing her lips. Her eyelashes fluttered for a moment before she

snapped back to her senses

In a heartbeat, she resumed her indifference as if Brian’s charms and good looks did not affect her.

Ignoring the wrenching pain in her heart, she said, “I hope you’ll be happy after we divorce.”

She had come too far to backtrack now. The finish line was close.

Stella told herself as much and pressed a hand to Brian’s chest. She shoved him away and said, “Don’t hug me while your leg is still injured. You don’t want to put more strain on it, do you?”

A deadly look flashed in Brian’s eyes. He thought she might give him a second chance, that she would give him a lengthy speech.

It turned out to be wishful thinking on his part

Brian chuckled humorlessly as he regarded Stella coldly. “Don’t come crying to me if your life goes up in

flames after the divorce.”

Stella nodded. Her voice was soft as she said, “I’ll live my best life, don’t worry.”

This left Brian speechless. He let go of her and reached for the walker. Without sparing Stella another

glance, he left the room.

Stella trailed him silently, her heart growing heavier with each step she took.

When they were in the car, Mike asked, “Where to, Mr. Foley?”

“The courthouse, Brian said curtly, closing his eyes.

Mike froze, He glanced at Stella in surprise. “Mrs. Foyer, are you both…”

“Yes, we’re getting a divorce, Stella answered with a smile, cutting Mike off mid–question.

Mike, who usually schooled his features into neutrality, visibly panicked. He couldn’t believe Brian and Stella were getting divorced. It should be impossible, especially since Brian was

Mike’s thoughts trailed off as he looked at Brian through the rearview mirror.

Brian was seated upright with his eyes shut. He did not utter a word.

Stella prompted. “We should get going. Mike. It’s almost ten in the morning. Any later and the court staff would be on lunch break.”

Pulled out of his thoughts, Mike started the Cullinan and drove away.

Brian was silent throughout the journey

Stella couldn’t help sneaking a few glances at him. This was the man she had loved and relied on for two years, the man whom she had called husband and cherished with all her heart.

She couldn’t help getting emotional now that things between them were officially ending.

“What are you looking at?” Brian asked, opening his eyes and casting a sidelong glance at her.

Stella froze. Through sheer will, she managed a smile. “I just realized how good you look in grey.”

Brian looked mysterious and formidable in black, in grey, he looked strong and dependable.

“That’s it?” Brian raised a brow at her, his gaze not leaving her face for even a second.

She nodded. “Yes.”

They pulled up outside the courthouse et that moment.

“We’re here,” Stella observed quietly as she looked out the window.

Brian gave the courthouse a dispassionate glance before turning his gaze back on her. “If you have. anything else you’d like to say to me, this is your last chance.”

Stella clutched her purse. She wanted to ask him whether or not he had sired the child Jessica was carrying. She also wanted to know if he would leave Jessica if the divorce fell through.

Most importantly, she wanted to know if he would help her get her father out of prison.

However, Stella knew she had no right to ask these questions.

Brian hated Simon with a passion. The entire world was determined to tear Brian and Stella apart,

Any explanation or excuse on her part would only drag out this mess and send everyone flying into a rage.

Stella had made her choice: she would sacrifice this marriage to save her father.

With renewed resolve, she said softly. “Let’s get this over with. I’ve got a meeting with Yoel in the

afternoon.”

Brian sneered. There was a cold look in his eyes as he opened the door and got out of the car.

Stella followed suit. She watched as Brian made his way to the courthouse entrance with the help of the

walker.

Mike went up to Brian to offer him a hand, but Brian pushed him away and ordered, ‘I’m fine. I can walk by myself. Go wait in the car and don’t bother coming in.”

“Yes, sir,” Mike answered. He glanced at Stella. He parted his lips as if to say something to her, but stopped himself.

Stella nodded at him and followed Brian into the courthouse.
