The Shadow and the Root

All she wanted was him

Only him to adore

When he’d leave her side

She wanted him more

The thoughts parade of wonderful days

Smiles and kisses, and so they say

You’ll replace the one whom you can’t live without

You’re all too sure and high, no doubts

But then.

You see.

The growth is beyond.

A mighty.

Tree.

A life has begun far before you.

But now in doubt it’s the shadow...

It’s the shadow and the root.

Exhale my lungs my breath is gone.

My time is short, the path is long

I will only go for as far as I’ll see

But the root is there, I can’t compete

I want to feel my love in truth

The shadow forbids beyond the root

I run to him in my dismay

The root is too deep the shadow says

Upon my chest across my mind

The hand is darkening my time

But must I face... or should I retreat?

My soul is crushed with fallen leaves

The shadow stares do not embrace

The root is there to bring him grace

And so... I depart as the shadow scores

The root must remain to shut the door...

As with the rule of time, I now must fade

The shadow and the root, both had their way
