Before she even declined, Meredith mocked, “Right, this is a once-in-a-lifetime good offer thatother people would die to be in your place. Ashlynn clenched her jaw. She could only stand up and pour Beth a glass of wine before raising herown glass, waiting for Beth to accept the toast.

"Ashlynn, you have to kneel so that this counts, Meredith reminded.

Ashlynn kneeled on the ground. The hard floor hurt her knees slightly.

Beth did not raise her glass to accept the favor. Instead, she asked her husband, ” Marshall, what doyou think? You agree with me taking her in as my goddaughter, don't you?”

“Your call.” Marshall Hilton had always been tolerant and respectful to his own wife. The Hiltonbrothers did not express an opposing stance as well. They left it to their mother to decide.

Beth seemed to be about to say something touching. “I had never expected myself to have such apresent today. This was a surprise gift for myself. I have to thank the Lloyd family for this. Thank youfor giving me a goddaughter.”

The two of them had a good time chatting while Ashlynn kneeled on the ground the whole time. Noone cared how long she had been kneeling and whether her knees were already numb.
