Chapter 1299

Anne's trembling finger landed on the screen and dialed the number.

Lucas picked up in no time. “Hello? Anne? Is that you? Anne...”

“Principal...” Tears welled in her eyes.

"What did Anthony do to you?”

She lowered her gaze at the back of her hand, not knowing how to begin describing theunspeakable things Anthony had done to her.

“I'm fine...n-how are you? Has the Pinnacle Academy really closed down?” She asked in tears.

“I'm going to give the academy up and leave Luton with my family. Anne, will you come with me?”"What...?" Anne gaped. “You are giving up?”

“It's not like I have a choice. It's a good thing that I have connections in Canbridge so I can stillmake a living. Anne, as long as you are willing to leave with me, you can stay away from Anthonyforever.”

Being able to stay away from Anthony was her deepest, darkest desire, but her heart raced in fear atthe idea.

Every one of her attempts to run had ended in failure and she was not certain if she would succeedthis time. If she failed once again, she could not bring herself to imagine the consequences.

"You just need to make the call. I will arrange everything else,” Lucas said.

“Principal Newman, I...I've already ruined your life, I can't do this again,” she muttered in despair.“I wouldn't have asked you to call me if I really thought that. Honestly, I feel like a weight has beenlifted off my shoulder without the Pinnacle Academy. That way, I can take you with me and leavewithout caring about anything else. My parents agreed to it as well, so don't hesitate, Anne. I willnever replace peace if I leave you behind in Luton.”

Tears scrolled down Anne's cheeks as she struggled, not knowing what to do.

“It's okay. I can wait. Think it through,” Lucas consoled her gently. “This is your chance, Anne. Askyourself if you really want to stay by Anthony's side. Being the man that he is, he will keepmistreating you. As for the kids, like I've said before, the odd relationship between you and Anthonywould only have negative effects on the kids.”

“I...I will think about it and call you.”

“Sure.”

Footsteps approached outside the room. Familiar with the pressuring presence, both Kathryn andAnne tensed

Anthony opened the door and walked inside to replace Anne leaning on the bedhead with her eyesclosed, her face still as pale as a ghost.

Kathryn turned around and greeted, “Mr. Marwood.”

Anthony glanced through the bed and the IV-drip. “You've been here for a while.”

"Yes. I chatted with Mrs. Marwood for a while,” Kathryn said, “we talked about her condition and Itried to console her.”

“She's not in that bad of a state.” He narrowed his eyes dangerously.

If Anne refused to obey, it simply meant that he had not punished her enough.

Anne clenched her fists underneath the blanket as she trembled.

As a doctor, Kathryn had no authority in front of Anthony except for when it came to doing her job,so she nodded slightly and left the room.

The bed sank and Anne knew that Anthony had sat down by the bed without having to open hereyes as his powerful aura could not be mistaken.

He stared at her intently without a word and Anne's breath hitched.

Realizing that it would be odd for her to pretend like she was asleep, she opened her eyes andjolted when she met Anthony's eyes.
