Chapter 895

Her eyes darted away.

She still remembered back when she achieved excellent academic results in high school andmanaged to obtain an offer from an Ivy league college. However, her parents refused to pay for thetuition because they felt that women were meant to get married and become a mother someday, sothere was no need for her to study.

Ashlynn knew that the only way for her to crawl her way out of the slam was to be educated, so shewent to collect trash for extra income.

The poker clubhouse held the most trash and that was where she ran into Salvatore.

“What are you thinking about?” He nipped at her lips.

Pained, she snapped out of her thoughts and glared at him.

“Do not let your mind wander when you are with me,” he commanded.

“I just...thought back to how I used to collect trash for a few extra bucks when in the slum. That'swhen I first met you. You just shoved all the money you earned into my hands without a word...thatwas the first time I've ever seen so much money. I was terrified.”

He recalled the past and his lips curled into a smile, but Ashlynn’s following words wiped the smileoff his face in an instant.

“If I had known that you are this kind of person, I would not have accepted that money. No, I shouldhave stayed out of it when you were found dying in that alley.”

He pressed his body against hers. “It's a shame that you can’t turn back time, then. You used tobelong to Salvatore, and now, you belong to Corentin...”

He lowered his head to devour her lips.

"No..."

“I thought you wanted to work? Obey me,” he threatened.

She paused and when he took her lips again, she paled and instinctively tried to push him away. However, when she thought about the possibility of being able to work, she forced herself to stopand focused on cooperating.

The violence from earlier did not affect Corentin at all and seemed to have excited him. Henarrowed his amber- colored eyes like a fierce wolf.

When they got out of the car, he carried Ashlynn, who had her dog in her arms, and went upstairsto their room.

After what they did along the way, the two headed directly into the bathroom and Corentingrabbed the dog, before tossing it out of the bathroom.

The dog fell on its back and by the time it managed to get back on its legs, the door was shutbefore its eyes.

It whined and though Ashlynn tried to escape Corentin, he had her pinned against the sink. “Mydog..."

“It won't die."

At night, he held her powerless body in his arms and touched her belly. “You will be with a childsoon and it's going to be my heir. I will hunt down everyone who hurt you in the past and avengeour son.”

With her eyes closed, she heard every word he said and shivered.

Corentin’s vengeful character terrified her and sharing a monster's bed felt like hell.

In the morning, Corentin woke up and noticed that Ashlynn was still deeply asleep next to him. Heplanted a kiss on her lips and picked up his watch to check the time.

Ever since he had Ashlynn back by his side, he would sometimes drown in an illusion that he wasstill Salvatore, who lived his life freely without a care.

After lazing around in bed for a few minutes, he got up.

He put on his shirt and buttoned it up. “You are going to be my assistant.”

Ashlynn had wanted to pretend like she was asleep until he left. “Your assistant?”

“Done with pretending to be asleep?” He teased.

Exposed, she muttered calmly, “...I want to work in a different company.

I

“There's no better company than the Lloyd Group here in

Athetin. I would have taken it over if such companies existed.” He walked to the bed and his shadowloomed over her. “I feel better to have you next to me.”

“You haven't inherited the Lloyd Group yet. Won't your dad be upset if you do this?"

She knew that Cory hated her and it might offend him if Corentin tried to get her to work in hiscompany.

“As if he can replace another person to inherit his business.”

He straightened his back and tossed his necktie to her.” This is your duty now.”

She grabbed the necktie and tied it around his neck while he lifted his chin, revealing his Adam'sApple.

As she moved her fingers through the knot, she considered his words and muttered, “Of course, hecan't replace anyone else, since Mr. Faye is gone...” She froze, remembering that she had yet to checkwith Anne on whether Nigel's murderer had been found.

“Have they found who did it?” She thought, “Does Corentin have anything to do with this? If he does, then what Anne said on the phone the last time... still haven't found anything worth mentioningfrom Corentin though...

"What are you thinking? Do you think that I killed Nigel?”

Despite being exposed, she remained calm and denied it, No. I am just wondering how Anne isdoing. Her dad passed away and her mom died shortly after. I'm worried about her.”

“If you have the time to worry about her, you should spend it thinking of ways to please yourhusband. I will take you to Luton when I have time."
