Chapter 244: Not Evading Him, But Avoiding Suspicion
After heading out from the garage, Joseph stepped on the accelerator, his usually peaceful and calm face was written with worry. This woman really meant it when she said to break up, and could leave just like that, but she's left so much trouble for him. It was approaching 5 in the afternoon. After autumn arrived, the weather had started to cool down, nightfall also arrived earlier, hence the nursery was also dismissing earlier than before. When he arrived at half past 4, there were seemingly no parking spots anymore. Joseph drove around the area looking for a spot, and saw a red car parked under a tree on the front, and a familiar silhouette got down from the car.
"Honk..."
Remembering the lady chef's words, he slammed the car honk twice.
A pale purple silhouette turned around, seeing that it was Joseph, she frowned, "This is a school, no honking allowed."
There was still a car in between them, hence Hayden had to speak in a louder volume, appearing particularly formidable.
Smiling, Joseph said slowly, "Don't think there're any more parking spots here, I'm going to park further, if Noah comes out, you help pick him up first."
Regarding the matter of picking Noah up, Hayden obligated and agreed easily.
Ten minutes later, after Joseph parked his car, he found Hayden at the end of the queue at the school gate.
"I have something to tell you."
"Yes?" Hayden took a look at him, a wary expression on her face, "What's that?"
If he was planning to talk about getting back together, this topic was not up for discussion now.
"Noah hasn't been eating rice recently." Joseph cut straight to the point, "Apart from what Stella sends him in the afternoon, he doesn't eat anything else. How do you think we should deal with this?" Looking worried, Hayden asked, "He really isn't eating anything at home?"
This reaction wasn't what Joseph expected. Since they broke up, Hayden wasn't responsible for Noah, she could actually not care about this, he hadn't expected her to show concern for Noah.
"Yeah." Joseph nodded his head, "We've changed our chefs three times, and he still refuses to eat."
Initially he hadn't intended to tell Hayden this, in case Hayden thought that he was using some tactics on her, but he really had no other options now. Noah's health was not good, if it continues like this, the outcome would be terrible.
"For breakfast and lunch, I can get Stella to bring to school. As for dinner, what about me preparing that and bringing it over, then you can bring it back to heat up."
Seeing that Hayden was feeling conversational today, Joseph eyes deepened, "We can do this on school days, but what about the weekends? He can't be starving for two days."
Hayden's frown deepened.
Looking at the side of her face, Joseph suggested, "How about we do this? You come over to my place to cook on the weekends, just like in the past."
"No way."
Hayden rejected this suggestion immediately.
She was doing that in the past and resulted in all these problems, if she still does that now, wouldn't she be sending herself to a tiger's mouth? She couldn't do these things that would just drag things on and on. "Then, do you prefer to see Noah starve himself for two days?"
Joseph was a little reluctant.
"How about this." Hayden thought of a compromise, "You send Noah over to your grandfather's place on Saturday, I will head over there to cook for him. The place is nearer to my house, moreover there are more people over there to avoid suspicion."
She knew that the old man had some issues with her lately. With this method, she could take care of Noah under the old man's eye, which would be even more appropriate.
Joseph frowned, a look of annoyance crossed his face, "So do you really want to hide from me?"
In his thirty over years of being on this planet, he had always been pursued by others. But when it came to Hayden, why did it seem that he always got caught in his weakness? He even had to entertain her hot and cold mood swings. "Not hiding, but avoiding suspicion."
Hayden reiterated, "Look at us now, we are just ex-es, your grandfather is also extremely against our dating. The housekeeper had already told me about this issue. If your grandfather replaces out that we are still keeping in touch, what would happen if he seeks out revenge from me?" I am protecting myself."
"Have you been watching too much television series?" Joseph rubbed his brows, "You think my grandfather is so free to pick a fight with you?"
"Well, I can't be sure about that." Hayden rolled her eyes, "Some people are worse than in television series."
"What do you mean?"
"For example, your childhood sweetheart. When she was asking me to leave you, she was only full of words. She didn't even offer to pay for my coffee. I think the people surrounding you are all lazy and love taking advantage of others." "You..."
Joseph was rendered speechless once again by Hayden bringing up Addison's issue. He felt extremely frustrated.
They said those that cared more loses. Looking at Hayden, she looked like she couldn't care less about their relationship anymore, that's why she could come up with all this rhetoric.
"Then I'll pick you up this Saturday..."
"No need for that, I'll head straight to your grandfather's place." Watching the kids that were coming out from the school, Hayden waved her hand, "Here."
Holding hands, Noah and Stella ran out from the school compound. Stella's face was flushed red, after waving goodbye to her teacher, she turned around and saw Joseph. Pouting, she let go of Noah's hand, ""Mummy, let's go."
Joseph frowned, he had wanted to say hi to this little girl, but the words immediately got caught in his throat.
Hayden on the other hand, rubbed Noah's head, "Noah, your dad said you have not been eating your meals properly. You can't do this."
Noah tried his best to come up with a sentence, "It's... it's not yummy."
Hearing this, Hayden sighed, "So you like to eat what I cook?"
Noah nodded.
"I've discussed with your dad, on Saturdays I will head over to your grandfather's house to cook for you."
Hearing this, Noah raised his head with his eyes sparkling, as if asking Hayden whether this was real.
"But my precondition is, if there are situations that I can't take care of you on normal days, you have to eat your meals properly at home, can you do that?"
""Yes." Noah nodded his head easily.
"Okay, pinky promise?"
Hayden extended her pinky finger, and a big and little pinky connected, "Pinky promise that you will not go back on your words."
"So, I'll see you on Saturday."
Hayden left with Stella. Watching them leave, Noah's sparkling eyes dimmed. "Noah."
Joseph ran up to them, helplessly adjusting his car seat at the back of the car.
Every day after school, this little boy would give him the cold shoulder. He was beaming so happily to Hayden just now, and the second she left, his face immediately darkened. This little boy's face changed even faster than the weather. "When are you patching up with mummy?"
Noah raised his little drawing board, his tender face accusatory.00
