Promised To The Alpha Twins -
Chapter 53
Once we arrived back in the city, Liam rented a car to drive the rest of the way.
After half an hour, the buildings started to look familiar. Anxiety stirred in my gut as we neared the city. I bit my l*p, something I often did when stressed.
“There’s nothing to worry about,” Liam reassured me, flashing one of his dimpled smiles before returning his attention to the road. “Axel won’t lay a hand on you, and Chloe is out of the picture. You won’t be near Lia and Dub either.”
“It’s not them I’m worried about,” I sighed. “When I ran away, it wasn’t just you and Ethan I left behind.”
“Aly,” Liam nodded, his eyes on the road. I could feel the echo of pain deep within him, repressed but present. Leaving had hurt Liam and Ethan more than I could have understood. “She was more worried than anyone, but I can’t speak for her.”
“I don’t blame her,” I shook my head. “For being upset, I mean. It was my fault.”
“You did what you thought was right in that moment,” Liam grimaced, and I almost shuddered as his underlying pain surfaced. “None of us can blame you for that.”
“I just… I didn’t know you could help me,” I admitted, ending my sentence with a small snort. “Although, now I understand why you and Ethan are so big, I mean, compared to the other high school seniors.”
“Big?” Liam pondered, flashing me a sly smile. “If you want to see something big…”
“Don’t finish that,” I shook my head, face aflame.
“Don’t worry, once we get home, I’m sure Ethan would love to hear how big you think we are,” Liam’s smile widened, his dark eyes gleaming playfully.
I sank further into my seat, avoiding Liam’s heated yet playful gaze as my body reacted to his words. It’s not like I hadn’t been intimate with the twins before, but each time had been so overwhelming, even before I realized the mate bond. Their touch consumed everything, driving away the most troublesome thoughts from my mind. When they touched me, all I could think about was more, wanting more of them.
After what felt like seconds, we arrived in the city. The town nestled amidst dense forests, away from prying eyes. Now I understood why someone would build a town so far into the woods. The thick woods provided the perfect cover to shift without being seen. The town itself was quite beautiful, much better than the town where humans lived. The buildings were all shiny and new, clearly well-maintained.
In a matter of minutes, we were driving down the street where Liam and Ethan’s house was located. Their house was the largest in town, with a long porch in the front. It was as pretty as Axel’s newly built house, although Liam and Ethan’s house felt more lived-in. Axel’s house reminded me of a model home, beautifully decorated but cold on the inside.
My stomach dropped as we pulled into the driveway of Liam and Ethan’s house. My eyes were glued to Aly’s house, which was a few houses down the block. Her driveway was empty; she shouldn’t have been home. Swallowing back the nausea, I felt Liam open the door for me, and I followed him inside their house.
The foyer was grand, an intricate crystal chandelier hanging from the ceiling. The house wasn’t cold and extravagant like Axel’s. This house was luxurious but genuinely felt inhabited. My eyes scanned the pictures on the wall, instantly searching for a young Liam and Ethan. Both were chubby little kids, with dark locks of hair on their heads. Each picture seemed to show them a couple of years older, up to what appeared to be this year.
My head turned towards the open kitchen as I heard voices filtering through the house. Liam offered me a faint smile and pulled me forward. My legs threatened to lock up, but somehow, I managed to follow him. The kitchen was large, big enough for a family of ten. It had two stoves and a refrigerator with a large screen. I had never been in such a beautiful house, and it was hard to believe that I would actually be living here.
Ethan was the only person I noticed. He looked like he did when we left Sara’s bakery. His hair was tousled, and he had changed into different clothes. A blush spread across my cheeks as I wondered if he also ended up naked after shifting, if it was a common occurrence among werewolves.
Ethan turned and locked eyes with me as if I were a magnet entering the room. A genuine smile formed on his face, one that almost took my breath away. I heard Liam chuckle softly behind me as I wrapped my arms around Ethan’s waist.
The jolt they felt every time I willingly touched them always mixed with a sense of awe. Ethan’s arms slid around my waist, and I felt his lips press against my hair.
“Missed me already, sweetheart?” Ethan asked, raising one of his dark eyebrows.
A light voice cleared her throat, and I stiffened as I realized we weren’t the only ones in the kitchen.
A woman with wheat-colored hair and crystal blue eyes, her figure slim just like her face. The man seated next to her was the spitting image of Liam and Ethan. Dark hair, dark eyes, broad shoulders, and a large build. Liam and Ethan’s mother looked at the three of us, her eyes curious but not critical.
“Are you going to introduce us?” Her mother teased, though a smile played at the edges of her full lips. “I swear I didn’t raise you two without manners.”
“Mom, Dad, this is Sussan,” Ethan chuckled softly. “She’s our mate.”
“Our mate?” his dad asked, raising an eyebrow in an expression that was almost identical to his sons’.
The sight made me want to laugh, now understanding where the two of them got their serious yet playful looks from.
“Our mate,” Liam nodded, a hint of a smile on his face.
“And is this what you needed to talk about last week?” His mom asked in a hushed voice, her eyes fixed on me.
“Partially,” Ethan shrugged, giving my hand a gentle squeeze before walking across the kitchen to where three large plates of food sat.
Through my anxiety, I hadn’t smelled the rich aroma of food wafting through the kitchen. My stomach growled angrily, causing Ethan to smile in my direction. Ethan lifted the lid off one of the plates, grabbing a steaming piece of food.
“Don’t you dare!” His mom exclaimed, waving her hands at Ethan as she chased him.
The sight was one of the funniest things I had ever seen. Ethan towered over his mom by at least a foot and a half, but he jogged away at her gesture. His lips formed a tight line, though his eyes sparkled with amusement.
This is how a family is supposed to be, I thought to myself. It was evident, through the gentle touches and calm words, that their parents loved each other deeply. I guessed they were also mates, though I wasn’t entirely sure. It seemed like in the werewolf world, one always ended up with their mate.
“Are you sure she’s the mate for both of you?” His dad asked, his intense eyes on me.
“We are.” Liam nodded, one of his arms sliding around my waist, tracing small circles on the small of my back.
His dad’s eyes narrowed into small slits as he stared directly at my face, causing my heart rate to spike. I couldn’t sense any emotion bubbling from him like I could with Liam and Ethan. For once, I felt somewhat blind. I couldn’t tell what was stirring behind his dark eyes.
“Your eyes seem familiar to me,” his dad growled, his face losing that paralyzing intensity after a few brief moments.
“There’s a reason for that,” Liam cleared his throat, throwing a quick glance at Ethan, who was nonchalantly getting closer and closer to the food. “She’s Alpha Axel’s daughter. If you thought her dad was intense before, you haven’t seen anything yet.”
His dad’s eyes widened, his lips forming a grim line as he looked at me. Even his mom seemed stunned and somewhat worried. She placed a hand on her husband’s arm, nodding gently.
“I didn’t know Axel had a daughter,” his dad grumbled.
“Yeah, neither did I,” I blurted out without thinking. “Would have been nice to know I wasn’t human seventeen years ago.”
Liam and Ethan’s dad snorted before letting out a chuckle. I could feel the approval radiating from Liam and Ethan, along with pride and another intoxicatingly sweet emotion I couldn’t quite identify.
“Well, we certainly have a lot to talk about,” his mom chuckled softly, the tension leaving the room.
“Would you mind staying for dinner, Sussan?”
I sent Liam a brief look, wondering if they knew that I was expecting to live here. Liam gave me an encouraging nod, his eyes telling me that we would discuss that later. I turned to his parents, two people who had nothing but genuine concern for their children. That’s when I realized that I wanted their acceptance, I wanted it more than anything.
I couldn’t leave Liam and Ethan for a second time, and I wasn’t sure I could handle more people fighting against me. Instead of succumbing to the nerves boiling beneath my skin, I mustered a kind smile and nodded.
“Of course, I’d love to stay.”
