Saving His Feral Mate
Chapter 16: Dinner

Alpha Knox POV

I spent the entire night tossing and turning, it was killing me that my mate was in the room next door and I couldn’t be with her. I actually tried to knock on the door a couple times throughout the night, but was refused entry by Max. I stopped trying when Max threatened to skin me alive if I continued. I knew that girl was crazy enough to do it, so I gave up.

Once it was morning time, I quickly jumped in the shower before getting dressed for the day. I made my way downstairs and into the kitchen. I loaded a bunch of breakfast items onto a tray and headed back upstairs. I was both excited and anxious to see my mate again. I can’t wait for her to wake up so we can talk.

I reached the spare room and found Jo standing out front looking flustered.

“What are you doing up here?” I asked with a frown. It was only 6:30am after all.

“I wanted to talk to my Mate, but she won’t let me in.” Jo replied with a heavy sigh.

“Here, let’s see if she’s hungry.” I offered, while motioning to the tray of food I brought.

He nodded his head, with a hopeful look in his eyes, before knocking on the door.

“It’s not even 7:00am yet, go away.” Max g*****d in irritation from the other side of the door.

“I brought breakfast.” I announced and it was silent for a minute, before the door creaked opened.

Max stuck her head out, eyeing Jo and I suspicious before she saw the tray of food. Her eyes sparkled excitedly as she opened the door and took the tray from my hands. She walked back into the room leaving the door wide open. I took that as my invite and followed her in.

My mate was lying on the bed in the same position I had left her in the night before. She was still wearing my T-shirt and she looked so beautiful. I couldn’t take my eyes off her, she literally took my breath away. I made my way over to her and sat down on the edge of the bed next to her.

I brushed a strand of red hair out of her face and when my finger touched her cheek, it sent waves of pleasurable static throughout my body. Her body responded with a shiver, bringing a smile to my face. I’m glad that I’m not the only one affected by the bond. I was brought out of my thoughts when I heard Max’s voice.

“Stop staring at me, it’s creepy.” She said, sounding annoyed.

I glanced over curiously to see what was going on. Max was sitting on the couch with the tray of food on her lap, while Jo sat in a chair across from her watching her eat.

“I can’t help it, you’re just so beautiful.” Jo replied with a goofy grin and continued to shameless stare at her.

“I swear to the moon goddess, if you want to keep your eyes, you’ll stop staring.” She threatened, in a calm yet dangerous tone.

“I guess I’m losing my eyes.” Jo replied, while shrugging his shoulders casually.

Max stood up abruptly and slammed the tray of food down on the table in front of her. Jo also stood up. I don’t know what the hell He was thinking but challenging a woman like Max, is definitely not the smartest idea.

I jumped up from the bed and ran over to stand in between them, before things escalated.

“Calm down.” I said, while holding my hands up to keep them away from one another.

I glanced between the two of them, but it was like I wasn’t even there. Their eyes were locked on each other and the tension was odd, I couldn’t tell if Max wanted to kill Jo, or f**k him. It was the strangest thing.

‘Why the f**k are you aggravating her?’ I asked Jo through the mind-link.

‘I’m not, we’re flirting.’ He replied, without breaking eye contact with her. He still had the same stupid grin on his face.

‘Dude, we need to have a serious talk later on how to flirt, because right now you’re failing miserably.’ I said, but my words fell on def ears, he didn’t even reply.

“I think this meathead has a death wish, Alpha.” Max stated, bringing my attention back to her. She looked like she was ready to kill Jo, but I swear I saw a flash of desire in her eyes. Man these two are strange. Maybe I should just let them fight and see what happens? I thought to myself, but decided against it.

“Just sit down, both of you.” I ordered, while shaking my head in frustration.

Jo immediately sat back down, but Max didn’t budge. Her eyes remained locked on Jo.

“Sorry, but I don’t follow orders from anyone.” Max said defiantly, while crossing her arms over her chest. Jo had a proud look on his face, causing me to glare at him. He really wasn’t helping.

“Just don’t kill each other. I want to be with my mate, without worrying about you two.” I said, with irritation clear in my tone.

The tension between the two of them seemed to have faded, so I went back to sit by my mate and focused my attention on her.

I spent the entire day in her room, either running my hand through her silky hair, or brushing my fingers across her smooth cheek.

Max and Jo continued to bicker, but I ignore them for the most part. After all, Jo was practically asking for a beating, so I was done trying to save his a*s.

The doctor had mind-linked me earlier in the day and said that the amount of Wolfbane in Scar’s system was quite high. He said that without her human side, she could be unconscious for days. I hated that there was nothing I could do for her, I felt so helpless.

‘Don’t forget, dinners in an hour.’ My mother said through the mind-link, causing me to cringe.

The last thing I want to do right now, was leave my mates side. But I knew I wouldn’t hear the end of it if I didn’t show up.

‘I’ll be there.’ I replied, before cutting the link and groaning in irritation.

“What’s wrong?” Jo asked, with a concerned frown.

“I have to be at a family dinner in an hour.” I replied, while rubbing the bridge of my nose in between my fingers.

“Don’t worry boss, I’ll stay and make sure your mate’s ok.” Jo replied with a mischievous smirk, while glancing over at Max.

“Oh hell no! Take him with you.” Max pleaded, while rolling her eyes.

“I won’t be gone long, try not to kill each other.” I said, as stood from the bed and made my way to the door.

“No promises.” Max grumbled and Jo chuckled.

I shook my head at them, before leaving the room. I really have no clue what’s going on in either of their heads.

I went back to my own room and changed into a pair of black dress pants and a Kaki green button up shirt. I rolled the sleeves up to my elbows, before slipping on a pair of black leather shoes. Once I was ready, I headed towards the private dinner hall that was reserved only for high ranking pack members. My mother had reserved it this evening just for our family.

When I reach the door to the dinner hall, I took a deep breath before opening the door. I really wasn’t looking forward to this meal.

“Oh good, you’re here” My mother said, as I walked into the room.

“Of course I am.” I replied, as I gave her a hug.

I glanced around the room and noticed that I was the last to arrive. My father was sitting at the head of the table, looking annoyed as always. My brother, Kyle, was sitting next to his mate, Sheryl. He was looking at me with a cocky smirk on his face, while his mate had the same timid look on hers as she always has.

“Nice of you to finally join us.” Kyle said, in a taunting tone. I ignore him and walked over to his mate, Sheryl.

“Congratulations, I’m really happy for you guys and I can’t wait to be an uncle.” I said truthfully, before giving her a hug. She was hesitant, but let me.

“Thank you.” She replied shyly, but her smile never reached her eyes.

She was one of the most submissive woman I had ever met and I felt bad for her. I wish she would grow a backbone and leave him, he doesn’t deserve her. He’s not physically abusive, I don’t think anyway, but he certainly isn’t winning the mate of the year award. He’s constantly cheating and talks down to her like she’s bellow him. It makes my b***d boil, but unless she’s willing to reject him, there’s nothing I can do about it.

“Brother, congratulations.” I gritted out and shook his hand.

“Thank you.” He replied, with the same cocky smirk. I wanted to slap it off him, but resist the urge.

“Let’s eat.” My father announced and I took a seat at other end of the table.

Within a few minutes, a group of omegas came out form the kitchen to serve us dinner.

We all started to eat in silence, my mind was thinking about my mate and how anxious I was to get back to her.

“So what’s this I hear, about you have two rogue she-wolves staying with you?” My father asked in a condescending tone, bringing me out of my thoughts.

Well that didn’t take long for him to replace out, I thought to myself. I glanced over at my mother who had a knowing smile on her face.

“Joseph found his mate, she’s staying here while they get to know each other.” I replied in short tone.

“So why are they staying on your floor?” My brother asked curiously.

“Because she’s not ready to accept the mate bond yet and the spare room on my floor is big enough to accommodate her and her friend.” I replied and it wasn’t really a lie.

“Well that doesn’t sound very safe or smart. Rogues are filthy creatures that can’t be trusted, you should ha…” my father started to lecture me and I cut him off.

“I have this under control. I don’t want to hear anymore about it.” I growled out, while locking eyes with my father, silently challenging him.

“I’m a little curious why Sabrina, Tanya and Melanie went home. I thought you were suppose to be taking one of them as a chosen mate?” Kyle asked, breaking me out of the stare down I was having with my father.

I glanced over at him, he had his head titled to the side and was looking at me suspiciously.

“I wasn’t interested in any of them, it was no use wasting there time or mine.” I said, while shrugging my shoulders. I was doing my very best to remain calm, but my father and brother were pushing my buttons.

“How about desert?” My mother suggested, breaking the awkward tension in the room.

“Sure.” I said, giving her a small grateful smile.

The omegas returned to take away our dinner plates, before bringing out desert. It was a chocolate lava cake with vanilla ice cream and fresh raspberries. I couldn’t help but wonder if my mate would like this. I would want nothing more, than to feed her a bite of this decadent desert and watch her m**n in pleasure as she savours the taste.

We ate desert, while my mother and Sheryl talked about baby stuff. My brother and father were going on about one of our enemy packs, but I wasn’t paying any attention my mind was elsewhere.

“I’m sorry to cut this short, but I have a few urgent matters that need my attention. Congratulations once again.” I announced, while standing up and bowing my head towards Sheryl.

“Awww, already? Can’t you stay for one more drink?” My mother pleaded.

“No sorry, I need to go.” I replied and started to leave the room.

“Son, don’t let those rogues roam freely on our territory, we don’t want to cause any stress to the pack.” My father said, causing me to stop in my tracks.

“I told you, I have it under control.” I gritted out between clenched teeth, before storming out of the room.

My b***d was boiling and I wanted nothing more than to put my father in his place for talking about my mate the way he was, but now wasn’t the time. If they knew my mate was a rogue they would be outraged, not to mention it would put a target on her back. So the fewer people that know at this point, the better.

I had enough of them for one day and I couldn’t wait to get back to my mate, just thinking about her puts a smile on my face.
