Saving His Feral Mate
Chapter 31: Confrontation

Tatiana POV

Knox had a few urgent matters to take care of this morning, so I headed to the kitchen by myself. I was starting to get use to being around people and big crowds didn’t seem to bug me as much.

I saw Sheryl sitting alone at a table and decided to join her. For some reason I’ve grown a soft spot for her. Maybe it’s my protective instincts, I’m not sure, but I want her to trust me.

“Do you mind if I sit with you?” I asked when I reached the table. Her eyes shot up to meet mine and a genuine smile spread across her face.

“Not at all.” She replied.

“How have you been?” I asked curiously, as I took a seat. I haven’t seen Sheryl since the incident in the library.

“I’ve been good for the most part, but the morning sickness has been brutal lately.” She replied, while rubbing her stomach.

“Do you know if it’s a boy or girl yet?” I asked casually, while digging into my food.

“Yes, I found out yesterday that I’m having a boy.” She said excitedly.

“Congratulations. You and Kyle must be thrilled.” I said and saw her smile falter slightly.

“He doesn’t know yet, he was busy yesterday and couldn’t come to the appointment. He never came back to our room last night, so I haven’t had a chance to tell him yet.” She replied and I could tell she was trying to be strong. I wasn’t really that surprised about Kyle not attending the appointment, he’s scum and only cares about himself. I just wish Sheryl would see that.

“Well, next time you have an appointment and you want someone to attend with you, ask me. I’d love to go with you.” I offered and was completely sincere.

“Thank you. I’ll definitely ask you if he can’t make the next one.” She said and seemed genuinely excited with my offer.

I noticed the room went dead quiet and everyone was looking towards the main door. All of a sudden, I heard a woman whistling and recognized who it was before I even turned around.

A large smile spread across my face, when I saw Max standing in the doorway looking completely unfazed by the attention she was getting. Of course she was wearing her favourite outfit, which includes nothing. I actually frowned because she wasn’t wearing her usual boots, she was barefoot today. I wonder when she got back?

“There’s my girl.” She said, when her eyes met mine.

She made her way over to our table and I stood up to give her a hug.

“Hey, when did you come back?” I asked curiously.

“In the night at some point, I guess.” She replied, sounding slightly annoyed.

“What brought you back? You missed Jo?” I teased.

“My damn wolf can’t keep it in her pants. She brought me back after I fell asleep last night.” Max grumbled and my eyes went wide.

“Your wolf?” I questioned.

“Yup. She wouldn’t come back for me, but of course she’d come back for her mate.” Max huffed, but I could tell her annoyance was just an act. She actually seemed happy to be here.

“Your wolf sounds like my human.” I replied with a light chuckle.

“Did Chloe come back?” Max asked curiously.

“Yup and she practically dry humped Knox the other night.” I said, while rolling my eyes.

‘Ok, that’s an exaggeration.’ Chloe mumbled in my head and I didn’t even bother to reply, she knew what she did and there was no denying it.

“Damn, I like her style.” Max laughed.

“Sorry, Max, this is Sheryl.” I said, while motioning to Sheryl who was still seated at the table. She was watching our interaction curiously.

“Hey, it’s nice to meet you.” Max said and shook her hand.

“You too.” Sheryl replied.

“Sheryl is Kyle’s mate and is expecting a pup.” I added and saw Max’s face morph into disgust.

“Congrats on the pup and my condolences on the mate pairing.” Max replied and I had to stifle a laugh. Why did it not surprise me, to hear Max blurt out her true thoughts.

“Thank you?” Sheryl said awkwardly, clearly unsure how to respond.

“Are you hungry Max?” I asked, changing the subject.

“Famished.” She replied, before sitting down and pulling my plate in front of her. It’s a good thing I wasn’t hungry anymore. I laughed to myself.

“So you’re mated to Jo?” Sheryl asked curiously.

“Unfortunately, yes.” Max grumbled.

“Jo is Max’s second chance mate.” I added and I saw a flash of pity in Sheryl’s eyes.

“What happened to your first mate? If you don’t mind me asking?” Sheryl asked in a soft voice.

“I stabbed him in the heart.” Max replied casualty, while taking a bite of bacon. Sheryl’s eyes went wide with shock.

“You killed him?” Sheryl asked in a shaky voice.

“He was abusive, he got what he deserved.” Max added, before shrugging her shoulders.

“Wow…I really admire how strong you are. The mate bond can be like a life sentence sometimes. The fact that you were able to do what you did, is unbelievable.” Sheryl replied and I could see the admiration in her eyes.

“You know you can be strong too. You shouldn’t let Kyle treat you the way he does. Maybe if he knew that you wouldn’t put up with his s**t, he would start showing you the respect you deserve.” I suggested. Although I don’t think Kyle would ever show her respect, but it would be nice to see her put him in his place once in a while.

“Ya, maybe you’re right.” She replied, her voice was barely above a whisper.

“If you want me to take care of him, just say the word.” Max offered with a wink. The excitement in her tone was undeniably.

“Oh, that’s ok.” Sheryl replied nervously, while shaking her head.

“Suit yourself, the offer still stands.” Max said with a shrug.

Speaking of the devil, I watched Kyle sauntered into the dinner hall. As soon as he saw Max and I sitting with Sheryl, a flash of anger crossed his features, before he quickly hid it. He made his way over to our table and stopped beside Sheryl.

“Who let the trash back in?” Kyle asked, while focusing his attention on Max. He had an evil smirk on his face.

“I was just wondering the same thing. The smell you brought with you just killed my appetite.” Max countered, while scrunching her nose in disgust. The smirk on Kyle’s face dropped and was replaced with an angry scowl.

“Let’s go Sheryl. I don’t want you hanging out with rogues.” He ordered, while grabbing ahold of Sheryl’s arm.

“No, I’m not done eating.” Sheryl replied firmly and my eyes nearly popped out of my head. I could tell she was nervous, but I was so proud that she was finally standing her ground. It might be over something small, but it’s a step in the right direction.

“No?! Excuse me? You’re choosing a couple dirty rogues over your mate?” He barked back.

“I’m not choosing anyone over you. I just want to finish my breakfast.” She replied calmly, although I could hear her heart beating erratically.

“I say you’re done, let’s go.” He said angrily, the veins in his neck were huge and his face had turned bright red.

“Ow! You’re hurting my arm.” Sheryl cried out, when his grip tightened around her bicep.

“I suggest you let go of her, if you want to keep that hand.” Max threatened in a dangerously calm voice, while standing up from her chair.

“You stay out of my business.” Kyle spat back and at this point I noticed that the entire hall was silent and everyone was watching the interaction.

“Nope, not going to happen. You have 2 seconds to let her go, before I rip your arm off and shove it up your a*s.” Max replied, while slowly moving around the table to where Kyle was standing.

“You f*****g w***e. I think it’s about time you learn your place.” He seethed, while letting go of Sheryl’s arm and stepping into Max’s personal space. I quickly stood up and went to stand beside Max.

“What’s going on in here?” I heard Knox’s voice cut through the air. The aura that came with it was powerful and dangerous.

“Why don’t you ask your little rogue friends, brother? I was having a conversation with my mate and they can’t seem to stay out of my business.” Kyle replied, but his eyes stayed locked on Max, silently challenging her for dominance.

“This piece of trash was manhandling his mate.” Max countered, without even flinching at the aura that was coming off Kyle.

“Is that true?” Knox asked, while moving between the two of them to defuse the tension. I noticed that Jo had also arrive and took a defensive stance next to Max, ready to defence her if need be.

“Of course not. I just don’t want my PREGNANT mate hanging around dangerous rogues.” Kyle replied, emphasizing the word pregnant. Knox growled but before he could replied, Max did.

“Dangerous rogues? I think she’s in more danger with her own mate then us.” Max scoffed.

“Sheryl, did he hurt you?” Knox asked, turning his attention to Sheryl, who looked extremely nervous.

“No. He grabbed my arm and wanted me to leave with him, but he didn’t really hurt me.” She replied softly, without making eye contact with anyone. I knew she would still defend him and I didn’t hold it again her. She still doesn’t see the man as evil like Max and I do. Maybe over time she will.

“I’m going to say this once, loud enough so that everyone can hear it. Tatiana and Max are my guests and will be treated with respect. If I hear of anyone being disrespectful towards them, including you, Kyle, there will be consequences. Am I understood?” Knox announced in a stern and dangerous tone.

“Yes, Alpha.” Was heard from everyone in the room, except for Kyle.

“Kyle?” Knox gritted out, when Kyle didn’t answered. Kyle was radiating in rage and he looked to be in physical pain, while trying to resist the Alpha command.

“Yes, Alpha.” Kyle finally gritted out, before turning around and storming towards the door.

Once he was out of the room, the tension seemed to drop.

“Sheryl, you sure you’re ok?” Knox asked.

“Oh ya, I’m fine.” Sheryl replied, with a soft smile that didn’t reach her eyes.

“Maybe you should stay with me tonight?” I suggested. I really didn’t want Sheryl to be alone with Kyle.

“Oh no, he’ll be fine in a few hours after he’s had a chance to calm down.” She replied, while waving me off with her hand.

“Are you sure? He was pretty angry.” Knox added with a concerned frown.

“He would never hurt me. Plus you guys are just a mind-link away.” She reassured.

“Ok, but make sure to mind-link me if he gives you any grief.” Knox said in a stern tone.

“Of course. I think I’m going to head back to my room, all this has made me tired.” Sheryl replied, while rubbing a hand over her pregnant belly.

“Absolutely, you take care of yourself.” Knox said, before Sheryl made her way towards the door and left the room.

I was proud that Sheryl stood up for herself, but now I was worried how Kyle would react to her rebellion. I didn’t trust the guy and seeing how fast his tempter spiralled out of control, I worry for her well being.

‘I think we need to stay close and make sure her and her pup aren’t in danger.’ Chloe suggested in my head.

‘I agree.’ I replied.

Something in my gut told me that Kyle wasn’t going to forget about this incident. I certainly wasn’t going to let him hurt her.
