Saving His Feral Mate -
Chapter 59: Where is she
Parker POV
I heard her angelic voice and felt her gentle touch along my skin. It ignited a fire within me and left a trail of sparks everywhere our skin touched. I tried to open my eyes, but no matter how hard I tried, I just couldn’t. I so badly wanted to see her and touch her, it was driving me crazy.
My wolf thrashed inside my mind trying to break free. I also fought with everything I had to try and move, but nothing worked. Her words were breaking me, I didn’t like what I was hearing. Who was Kyle? She’s pregnant? Why did she refer to herself as used goods? I would never think that of her, no matter what kind of past she had. I knew Preston wouldn’t either.
She sounded sad and I wanted so badly to comfort her, but my body wouldn’t cooperate. I could feel my heart practically beating out of chest as I fought to open my eyes. Every inch of my body hurt, but it didn’t matter. The only thing that mattered in that moment, was my mate.
After several attempts, I finally won the battle and my eyes shot open. I scanned the room only to replace it empty. Did I dream that my mate had been here? No that wasn’t possible, I could still smell her and it was fresh. Did she run away when she noticed I was waking up? Why would she run from me?
I forced my body into a sitting position and was trying to get out of bed when the door flew open. A concerned looking man in a white hospital jacket stormed into the room. I could only assume that he was a doctor based on his outfit.
“You’re awake.” He exclaimed with a shocked expression on his face.
“Where is she?” I asked in a hoarse voice, while still trying to get out of bed.
“Where’s who? You need to lay back down, you shouldn’t even be awake yet.” The doctor said in a concerned voice, while trying to stop me from getting up.
“My mate, where is she?” I asked and hissed from the pain that tore through my body.
“I don’t know who your mate is. What’s her name? I can get her for you.” He offered, while I continued to try and stand.
“I don’t know her name. She was in this room right before I woke up.” I replied and couldn’t hide the irritation that was lacing my words.
“I see, maybe your mate is one of the nurses here? If you lay back down on the bed, I can bring all the unmated she-wolves in your room for you to see if it was one of them?” He offered and I reluctantly complied. If I was being completely honest, my body wasn’t exactly cooperating with me anyway.
“Fine.” I huffed and the doctor let out a relieved sigh as I laid back down.
“If I leave this room, you need to promise to stay in bed. Your body has been through a lot and you can’t be over doing it.” He said while giving me a pointed look.
“I’ll stay in bed, just hurry up and bring my mate to me.” I huffed and the doctor quickly left the room.
I let out a frustrated sigh, I didn’t even know where I was or how I had gotten there, but none of that mattered. The only thing on my mind was replaceing my mate. What if she’s not one of the nurses? What if she left the hospital already? What if she doesn’t want us to replace her? So many thoughts were running through my mind, it was driving me insane.
My thoughts were interrupted when the door flew open. I was expecting it to be the doctor, but instead Preston barged into the room. He had a wild look in his eyes and his nostrils were flaring, I knew he could smell our mate.
“I can smell her, where is she?” he growled, while scanning the room in search of our mate. His eyes were black and I knew his wolf had taken control.
“I don’t know. The doctor’s going to get all the unmated nurses. Our mate left the room before I could open my eyes.” I replied.
I wasn’t even mad at Preston for his lack of concern for my well-being, I was also more focused on replaceing our mate.
“Why would she leave in the first place? She should have sensed that you were her mate.” He barked out the question and the irritation was clear in his tone.
“She spoke to me when she thought I was unconscious. She talked about another man and I think she’s pregnant.” I replied with a frustrated sigh.
“What? She can’t be with someone else, she’s ours.” Preston snapped.
“I know, let’s just focus on replaceing her. I don’t want us jumping to conclusions just yet. She sounded so sad and broken, it was horrible.” I replied while shaking my head. I hated the thought of our mate being anything but happy. I noticed that Preston’s face had softened as he took in my words.
Our conversation was interrupted when the doctor walked in. Five women followed close behind him and they were all dressed in blue scrubs, it was clear that they were nurses. I knew immediately that none of them was our mate.
“These are all the unmated nurses.” The doctor announced.
“She’s not one of them.” I replied in a short tone.
“Who else was in here?” Preston asked, while running his fingers through his hair.
“You girls can get back to work, thank you.” The doctor addressed the nurses before they quickly left the room. He then turned his attention back towards us.
“I don’t know who else it could be. We had several patients come through here today. Maybe she’s a patient.” The doctor replied.
“She said something about being pregnant. Did you have any pregnant she-wolves come in today?” I asked and saw recognition flash across his face, before he quickly hid it with a neutral expression.
“You know who she is, don’t you?” I growled.
“We have several pregnant she-wolves that are in our care.” He replied vaguely and now looked nervous.
“But how many of them are mateless?” It was Preston’s turn to growl out the question.
“I’m sorry, but I can’t provide details about my patients.” He said nervously as he gulped.
“She’s our mate, we have the right to know.” I argued and I could tell Preston was getting just as angry as I was.
“Listen, if she wanted you to know who she was, she wouldn’t have left your room. Maybe she doesn’t want you guys to know.”The doctor replied and both my brother and I growled at the same time. I was starting to think that this doctor had a death wish.
I was about to replied, when I heard a knock at the door. A second later, the door opened and Max walked in.
“You’re awake.” Max exclaimed with wide eyes.
“I am.” I replied in a clipped tone.
“I thought you’d be out for at least a couple days” She added, before walking over and giving me a hug.
“I’ll let you guys catchup, I’ll come back later to checkup on you.” The doctor said quickly and practically ran to door.
“Don’t think this conversation is over, we’ll be talking more later.” Preston replied before the doctor left the room and closed the door.
“What was that all about?” Max asked with a curious frown.
“Our mate was here, the doctor knows who she is but refuses to tell us. He pulled the doctor, patient confidentiality bullshit. He won’t give us her name.” I replied and my words were laced with irritation.
“I’m confused, I thought you guys didn’t want to replace her yet?” She asked with furrowed eyebrows.
“That was before, now we think she could be seeing someone else.” I replied and ran my hands over my face.
“Why would you think that?” She asked.
“Because she said something about being pregnant with another man’s pup.” I replied bitterly and noticed the same recognition that the doctor had, flash across Max’s face.
“Oh s**t, no way. That lucky b***h gets two of you? It’s always the innocent ones that are the kinkiest. Why else would the moon goddess give her twins as second chance mates?” Max chuckled, but the statement was more to herself.
“Second chance mates? Max, stop blabbering and explained.” Preston growled.
“Ok fine, her name’s Sheryl. She was mated to Kyle, a total sleaze ball. He’s actually Knox’s brother, but you would never know that, they are complete opposites. Kyle was a horrible mate and treated her like s**t. He cheated on her while she was pregnant and she almost lost the pup because of it. Anyway, after that happened she rejected him and Knox made sure he accepted the rejection.” She explained.
“f**k! I’m going to kill him.” Preston growled out the words before I could. My b***d was boiling with anger. How dare someone hurt our mate.
“She’s been through a lot. You’ll have to patient with her.” Max added in a more serious tone.
“No wonder she took off before I woke up.” I mumbled, but more to myself. Now everything that she said made total sense.
She was wrong about one thing though, she certainly wasn’t used goods and we do want her. I didn’t even have to ask Preston, because I could tell he felt the same way. Now we just need to replace her and prove it.
“Does she even know that there’s two of you?” Max asked curiously.
“I doubt it, Preston wasn’t here when she was in the room and the way she spoke, I don’t think she had a clue that I was a twin.” I replied.
“Oh my goddess, I need to be there when she replaces out. That poor innocent girl is going to get one hell of a surprise.” Max said, while a mischievous smirk spread across her face.
“How do we even approach her? What if she rejects us? What if the idea of having twin mates scares her?” Preston blurted out question after question, while pacing around in the room.
“Like I said, it’s always the innocent ones that are the freakiest. She’s probably going to be thrilled with the idea of have two dic…” Max started and I quickly cut her off.
“Max, stop.” I growled while giving her a pointed look.
“Alright, alright. How about I talk to her first?” She offered, while chuckling and putting her hands up in mock surrender.
“That’s not a bad idea. You could vouch for us.” Preston replied with a hopeful tone.
“Ok, but no talking about our d***s or any other crazy s**t that goes through your mind.” I said pointedly.
“Got it, I’ll keep it PG.” She replied, but the mischievous smirk was still plastered on her face. I wasn’t so sure about letting Max talk to our mate, but I also wasn’t sure what other option we had. Our mate has been mistreated before and if we don’t take this slow we could blow our chances with her.
“Ok, now that we have that settled. How are you feeling?” Max asked.
“Like I was run over by a bus.” I g*****d.
“You scared us brother.” Preston added and I could see the concern on his face.
“How the hell are we even alive?” I asked. Now that I had time to think my memories started coming back to me.
Preston gave me the run down of what happened after I was shot and also how the meeting went with the council. I have to admit, replaceing out that Cameron was still alive definitely didn’t sit well with me. Hopefully the council will decide to help us and we can get rid of Cameron once and for all.
