Chapter 67: He was working with Alpha Alec

Knox POV

I was beyond pissed off, once the council left there was only one person on my mind and it was my father. He had undermined me for the last f*****g time.

I stormed down the hall with Jo, Jag and Max hot on my heels.

“Knox, where are you going?” I heard Jag ask from somewhere behind me, but I ignored him and continued on my mission.

I reached his office in no time. I didn’t bother knocking before throwing the door open. My father was sitting behind his desk and shot up when the door slammed against the wall. He looked shocked at my sudden outburst.

“Son, what are…” He started but I quickly cut him off.

“Cut the crap! You’re going to listen and keep your mouth shut.” I seethed as I came around the desk and got right in his face. His mouth was partly open and he seemed taken aback by tone.

“I AM THE ALPHA, NOT YOU. I MAKE THE GODDAMN DECISIONS AROUND HERE, NOT YOU.” I roared, while pointing my finger at myself then at him to drill my point into his thick skull.

“This is your last warning, father or not, if you ever undermine me again you’re out of this pack. I f*****g dare you to call my bluff. The only reason you’re not already out on your a*s is because of my mother.” I spat out angrily. His mouth opened and closed a few times but no word came out.

Before he recomposed himself, I turned around to leave. Jag, Jo and Max stood at the door and had clearly watched the entire interaction. Jo and Jag looked surprised, but Max had an amused smirk on her face. I pushed past them and stormed out of the office without giving my father another look.

I made my way to my office. Once I reached the door, I quickly went inside and slammed it shut behind me. My adrenaline was still pumping through my veins, I was angry and couldn’t bring myself to calm down. I started pacing around the small room, thinking about everything that happened the past few days. How could my own father go behind my back like that? My thoughts were interrupted when there was a knock at the door. I cursed under my breath, I really didn’t want to speak with anyone right now. I needed time to think. But then it hit me, my mate’s scent. I guess there was one person I didn’t mind seeing right now and it was Chloe. I wonder if she sensed my emotions through our bond? She certainly showed up at the right time.

I made my way to the door and threw it open. My mate stood on the other side with wide eyes, I don’t think she was expecting me to open the door so forcefully. Our moment was interrupted when there was a knock at the door. I let out a frustrated sigh before telling whoever it was to come in.

The door opened, Max, Jo and Bert walked in.

“What do you want?” I asked.

“Bert got into Kyle’s phone.” Jo said and motioned to Bert.

“Ya, there wasn’t much on there, but Kyle was definitely working with Alpha Alec. They texted back and forth a lot and Kyle was giving him confidential information about your pack. Meeting times, financial information, security measures, patrol schedules, basically everything you did, he was sharing with Alpha Alec.” Bert said and handed me the cellphone so I could read through the messages.

“That son of a b***h. I figure he was the rat, but didn’t realized the extent of his betrayal.” I grumbled, but it was more to myself.

“Did you replace anything that might help Max’s case?” I asked.

“Unfortunately not. All the other text messages on his phone had been wiped clean. There weren’t even any pictures, he must have deleted everything.” He replied and I let out a sigh. I was really hoping there would be something helpful.

“Alright, Thanks. I’ll pass this along to the council. At least this proves that Kyle was closely tied to Alpha Alec’s pack.” I said and he nodded.

“Jo, can you started working on a new patrol schedule? I don’t want Alpha Alec knowing any of our security measures.” I asked.

“Of course, I’m on it.” He replied.

Our conversation was cut short when my phone rang. I picked up after the second ring.

“Alpha Knox speaking.” I greeted.

“Alpha Knox, it’s Xander.” The man on the line answered.

“Xander, it’s great to hear from you. I take it you’re out of jail.” I replied.

“Ya, I’m out.” He chuckled.

“Listen man, I wanted to thank you for what you did at the Alpha meeting. If I had shifted, I would have gotten a lot more than a week in cells.” I said sincerely.

“ It’s no problem, I didn’t like the way that a*****e was talking about Chloe.” He replied and I could hear the anger in his tone. It once again sparked my curiosity. I wonder why he cared so much about Chloe. He seemed to be quite protective of her.

“Speaking of, is Chloe around? I would like to speak with her.” He asked, making my eyebrows furrow together. Should I be worried? Why does he want to speak with her? Before I could reply, Chloe grabbed the phone out of my hands and brought it to her ear. She had clearly overheard the conversation.

“Hey Xander, it’s Chloe.” She greeted with a smile on her face.

“Hey Chloe, how are you?” Xander asked excitedly and I couldn’t stop the growl from leaving my throat. Chloe glared at me before slapping my chest.

“I’m good, how about yourself?” She replied.

“I’m good, I was just calling to see if you would be interested in coming over for dinner one of these nights? My uncle and I would like to talk to you about something.” He asked in a hopeful tone. My jaw immediately clenched, I couldn’t believe he was asking Chloe to have dinner with him. Chloe glanced up at me and rolled her eyes, obviously noticing my sudden jealousy.

“Sure, I would love too. When?” She asked.

“How about tomorrow? And feel free to bring that mate of yours, I bet he’s losing his mind beside you right now, isn’t he?” He chuckled, causing Chloe to laugh with him. Now I felt a little embarrassed, I thought he was only asking Chloe out. That bastard was messing with me on purpose.

“He sure is.” She replied, while glancing up at me with an amused grin on her face.

“Alright then, we will see you guys tomorrow.” He stated.

“Sounds good, I’m looking forward to it.” She replied before hanging up the phone.

That was interesting. What could they possibly want to talk about? I had a feeling it was going to be something big.
