Saving His Feral Mate
Chapter 69: I loved her

Chloe POV

“No Vincent, she’s not Trisha.” Victor replied.

“She’s Trisha’s daughter.” He corrected and I could see the wheels turning in Vincent’s eyes. He was trying to piece everything together. I was doing the same. I wanted to ask so many questions, but nothing was coming out of my mouth.

“How? I would have felt it if she had mated with someone else.” Vincent stated with furrowed eyebrows. Now I was confused, he was talking like he was my mother’s mate. Only true mates would feel it when their other half mated with someone else.

“That’s because she didn’t.” Victor replied and after a minutes realization flashed in Vincent’s eyes.

“It can’t be.” He practically whispered, while his eyes remained locked with mine.

“What is going on here?” Knox asked in an irritated tone.

“I’m sorry for not telling you sooner, Chloe. Vincent, my brother, he’s your father.” Victor said and I glanced rapidly between the brothers. Vincent wasn’t even trying to deny Victor’s absurd statement.

“That’s not possible.” I practically whispered.

“It is and we will explain everything to you, I promise.” Victor replied and his voice sounded pained.

I felt completely overwhelmed, how was any of this possible. Why would my mother not tell me about him? Was it a one night stand? Did he use her? I just couldn’t seem to wrap my head around any of it.

Vincent stood from his chair and took a few wobbly steps towards me. It was clear he had been drinking by the way he was swaying.

Tears threatened to fall from his sad blue eyes. He stopped directly in front of me and reached his hand up towards my face. I flinched at the sudden move and Knox pulled me tightly against his chest in protective manner.

“I’m sorry, you just look so much like her.” Vincent said sadly.

“Why didn’t she tell me she was pregnant?” He asked, but it was more to himself.

“Brother, I think we’re all starting to feel intoxicated by the stench in here. Take a shower and sober up. Then come meet us for dinner, we can figure everything out together.” Victor said, but Vincent didn’t reply. His eyes were still locked with mine.

“Come on Chloe. Let’s go wait in the living room.” Victor suggested and I nodded before turning around to leave.

I felt a hand gently grab my arm to stop me. I turned around and found Vincent looking at me with sad eyes.

“Please don’t leave.” He begged and his tone nearly broke my heart. Why was I feeling this way? Was he really my father?

“I won’t.” Was all I could reply.

I followed Victor and Xander out of the room. I didn’t know how to feel. I was definitely curious, but I was also angry. Why didn’t Victor and Xander tell me sooner if he was really my father?

Knox squeezed my h*p in a reassuring way, clearly sensing the internal battle I was having.

‘Could he really be our father?’ I asked Tatiana in my head. I was hoping she would have the answers for me. She was always good at reading people and her gut feelings were usually on point.

‘It would make sense, he comes from an Alpha family and based on my wolf size, it’s clear we have Alpha b***d running through our veins.’ She replied thoughtfully.

‘Do you think we can trust him?’ I asked and she was silent for a moment before finally answering.

‘I’m not sure yet, we need to spend more time with him so I can figure it out.’ She replied.

I was so lost in the conversation that I didn’t realize we had arrived in the living room. Everyone was looking at me with sad and concerned eyes.

“Are you ok?” Xander asked.

“I’m not sure, this is a lot to take in.” I said truthfully.

“I need some fresh air.” I added and he nodded.

“There’s a patio through those doors. Take all the time you need.” He offered and pointed to a set of sliding doors that led outside.

I nodded my head and started walking towards the door. I stopped when I felt a presence behind me and turned to see that Knox was following me out.

“I just want a few minutes alone. Don’t worry, I’ll be ok.” I said. He hesitated for a few seconds, but eventually nodded and let me go on my own.

I walked outside and immediately took in a deep breath when I felt the warm night breeze against my skin.

What the hell was going on? I had so many questions, but only one man could answer them, Vincent.

Tears starting pouring from my eyes and I wasn’t even sure why? I guess it was because of the whirlwind of emotions that had taken over.

If he was my father, that meant Victor was my uncle and Xander my cousin. They lied to me. Well, I guess they didn’t lie to me, but they certainly weren’t upfront when we first met. Why?

I thought I had no family left, but then this happened. The thought of having family made my heart skip a bit. It was something I always wanted, but they had already betrayed me by keeping secrets. Would they end up breaking my heart? I’ve already had so many heartbreaks, I don’t think I could handle anymore.

I sat down on a wooden bench and buried my head in my hands. Why was my life such a mess?

I don’t know how long I had been sitting there, when I heard someone clear their throat. I looked to my left and found Vincent standing a few feet away with his hands in his pockets. He had cleaned himself up nicely. He was wearing black dress pants, with a wine coloured button up shirt. His hair was still long, but slicked back nicely. He even shaved his beard and that made him look so much younger.

“Can I sit down?” He asked in a low, gruff voice and I could hear the hopefulness in his tone.

“Sure.” I replied before he sat down next to me.

We remained silent for a few minutes, both looking out into the darkness of the night. The only sounds that could be heard, were the crickets and the pounding of my erratic heart.

“I didn’t know she was pregnant.” He finally spoke and I glanced over to see a pained expression on his face.

“I don’t understand any of this.” I replied with a hint of irritation in my tone.

“I’m your mother’s fated mate. Well, I was. I felt our bond break when she died a few years ago.” He said in a somber tone.

“She was killed.” I whispered and I glanced over to see his jaw clench. I heard the sound of wood splintering, before I noticed his grip on the armrest had tightened and caused the wood beneath his fingers to crack.

“Who?” He asked through clenched teeth and I knew he wanted to know who killed her.

“Alpha Cameron.” I replied and his body started to tremble before his eyes turned pitch black.

“I’m sorry, give me a moment.” Vincent gritted out before standing up and walking a few feet away from me.

I watched his back tense and his breathing was heavy. It was very clear that he was fighting his wolf for control. I didn’t say a word and just watched.

It took him a good 10 minutes before he finally turned towards me. His eyes had returned to their normal blue and he seemed to have won the battle against his wolf. He came back to the bench and sat down next to me.

“I want to know what happened, Chloe, but not tonight. I’m not sure I can’t handle it right now.” He said and it was clear he was struggling to remain calm. I nodded my head in understanding.

“You probably have a tone of questions and I’ll do my best to answer them. How about I start by telling you how I met your mother? Then you can ask me whatever you want.” He suggested and I once again nodded. Tatiana had perked up and was paying close attention to what he was saying. I knew she was also anxious to get some answers.

“At the time, I was the Alpha of this pack and attended an Alpha meeting in the human City. After the meeting was over, a couple of us younger Alphas went to the nearby club. At the end of the night, I was walking home when I picked up a scent. The scent was intoxicating and I found myself following it. It led me to a grey SUV that appeared unoccupied in the parkade of the hotel. I approached the vehicle and looked through the window. That’s when I saw her, she was curled up and sleeping on the backseat. She was the most beautiful creature I had ever laid eyes on. Her wild red hair was sprawled out all around her. She looked so innocent.” He explain and paused for a minute while he reminisced.

“I was young back then and because I was an Alpha, my wolf was hard to control. He took over and immediately flung the car door open. She shot up from her sleep and her eyes immediately widened. I could see the fear and panic swirling within them. When my wolf growled out the word, mate, she passed out. I quickly took back control and scooped her up in my arms. I carried her up to my hotel room and laid her on the bed. I knew my wolf had scared her and I was worried about how she would react when she woke up.” He added and shook his head at the thought.

“I sat next to her on the bed and just waited. She was so beautiful, I couldn’t stop staring. After a while, she finally opened her eyes and her brows furrowed together in confusion. As soon as her memory came back, she shot out of bed and ran for the door. I quickly grabbed ahold of her before she could leave. She was petrified and it made me both angry and sad. I was her mate, why was she trying to runaway from me? It took me a while, but eventually I managed to calm her down. She remained quiet while I told her about myself. I was hoping if she knew more about me, she wouldn’t be so afraid. I made sure to bring up my rank a bunch of times, thinking she would be proud of being mated to an Alpha. Boy was I wrong.” he said with a heavy sigh.

“She finally told me a little bit about herself. Starting with her name and that she was an Omega in her pack. She also told me that Cameron’s father, the Alpha at that time, had brought her along to the meeting so she could run errands for him. She never admitted it, but it was clear the a*****e was making her sleep in the vehicle instead of a room.” He said and now I could hear anger in his tone.

“After a few hours of us talking, she seemed to be finally warming up to me or at least that’s what I thought. I realized later that it was all an act. She wanted me to think she was giving into the bond, so I would lower my guard. It worked, I was the happiest I had ever been that night and she had quickly become my everything. We spent one amazing and passionate night together. I thought she had accepted me.” He said and his voice broke at the end.

“I woke up the next morning to an empty bed. I panicked and searched every inch of the room, but she was gone. I found a folded piece of paper on the pillow where she had slept. I grabbed the paper and unfolded it. There was a note written on it. Till this day, I can still remember every words that was written down.” He said and closed his eyes to remember the note.

“Dear Vincent,

I’m sorry, but I can’t be your mate. I’m a lowly Omega and you’re an Alpha. I’m not Luna material and I’m definitely not strong enough to lead a pack. You would have quickly realize that. The goddess must have made a mistake when she paired us together. You deserve someone stronger and more deserving to rule by your side. I knew you wouldn’t let me leave, so I waited till you fell asleep. I hope you understand this is for the best. You can still replace happiness with a chosen mate.

Please don’t come looking for me and respect my decision.

I wish you all the best,

Trisha”

I looked over and saw tears running down Vincent’s cheek, the pain in his eyes broke my heart. My own tears started to fall freely. How could my mother do that to him? It was clear he loved her very much. How could she not see that?

“I’m so sorry.” I said softly, while trying to hold back my sobs.

“We didn’t have a good relationship with your old pack. Therefore, I couldn’t approach the Alpha and ask him to hand her over. He would have used her against me and it would have put her in danger. I spent years roaming the forest outside her territory hoping to get another glimpse of her, but nothing. I went to every Alpha meeting, hoping that the Alpha would once again bring her along, but he didn’t. A couple of times, I was ready to storm onto the territory and take her by force, but my brother stopped me and remind me of her wishes. She didn’t want to be with me.” He said and his voice trailed off at the end.

“If I knew how she felt, I would have given everything up for her, my title, my pack, everything. We could have run off together, just the two of us. Hell, I kind of gave everything up anyway. I became obsessed with her and started ignoring my pack and duties. My brother would always cover for me, no questions asked. After a few years, I decided to hand over the title to him. He was already doing the job full time and I couldn’t seem to pull myself together. He was reluctant at first, but after some convincing he accepted the title.” He said, while staring out into the darkness.

It was silent for a few minutes, we were both thinking about everything he said.

“When I felt our bond break and knew she was dead, that was the last straw. I completely broke down and gave up on life. Tonight’s the first time I’ve left my room in over two years. The only reason I’m still alive is because of Victor and his family. They took care of me and wouldn’t let me die.” He added.

“I’m sorry, I can’t believe my mother did that to you. It was wrong of her.” I said and there was resentment in my tone. My mother let her fears control her. She gave up the chance of being happy because she was afraid. Not only that, but she literally ruined Vincent’s life.

“Don’t hold it against her. She was afraid and panicked. I must admit, I came on really strong and definitely didn’t help the situation. I still kick myself in the a*s for not taking it slower with her. Maybe if I had explained myself better, she wouldn’t have left me.” He said and glanced over at me with sad eyes.

I wanted to remain mad at her, but I couldn’t. Her whole life was spent around cruel Alphas who treated Omegas poorly. It was somewhat understandable that she was scared when she found out her mate was Alpha. Look at Knox and I, I wasn’t going to give him a chance when we first met and if he hadn’t of been persistent, we definitely wouldn’t have ended up together.

“If I knew she was pregnant, I would have fought harder.” He said, bringing me out of my thoughts. I glanced over and saw regret in his eyes. I knew it wasn’t his fault, none of this was.

“If you had known, it would have only torture you more. Once my mother made up her mind about anything, there was no changing it.” I replied and heard him sigh in defeat.

I turned towards Vincent and quickly wrapped my arms around him. He stiffened at the sudden action, but then relaxed in my arms and hugged me back. We stayed like that for several minutes in comfortable silence.

There was no doubt in my mind that he was my father and that he deserved my love just as much as I deserved his. I actually think replaceing each other was a blessing. Maybe we could help each other heal.
