Saving His Feral Mate
Chapter 72: How could you betray me?

Knox POV

I stormed out of the dungeon and headed towards the Alpha floor. My wolf was fighting me for control. He wanted to shred my father to pieces. I on the other hand, wanted to know why he did it. How could he betray his own son like that?

As soon as I started climbing the stairs, I could hear arguing coming from the Alpha floor.

“What the hell is this? Why can’t I leave my room?” I heard my father shout.

“Sorry sir, but we were given orders not to let you leave.” One of the warriors replied.

“Who’s orders?” My father asked angrily.

“Alpha Knox.” The warrior answered.

I reached the landing of the Alpha floor and saw my father standing in the hallway with 4 warriors surrounding him. He looked beyond angry, but it didn’t even compare to my own rage.

“What is the meaning of this?” My father asked when he noticed me storming towards him.

“How f*****g dare you betray me like that.” I seethed as I got closer.

Before he even knew what was happened, I balled my fist and punched him in the face. My father fell backwards onto the ground.

“What the f**k!” He shouted, while bringing his hand up to wipe the b***d from the corner of his mouth.

“You didn’t only put me at risk tonight, but also my MATE!” I roared and saw a flash of fear cross my fathers eyes before he stood up from the ground.

“That’s absurd, I did no such thing.” He argued, but I could hear the nervousness in his tone.

“So you’re telling me that you didn’t sell me out to Alpha Alec? That you didn’t tell him where I would be tonight? Or how many warriors I brought with me?” I barked out question after question. My father made a few attempts to respond but I didn’t let him.

“You didn’t just betray me tonight, but this entire pack. You’re officially accused of treason. What do you have to say for yourself?” I gritted out, causing my father to chuckle humourlessly.

“Treason? I handed this pack to you on a silver platter. This pack was thriving before you took over. Now you’ve turned it into a damn rogue refuge. You even accepted one of those filthy creatures as your mate and to top it all off, you let one of those dirty mutts kill your own brother. YOUR OWN B***D!” He boomed.

“Watch your f*****g mouth. Chloe is the rightful Luna to this pack and you’ll show her respect. Not only that, but she’s also Alpha Victor’s niece and rightful heir to his pack. Call her a rogue again and I cut your tongue out.” I spat back and saw his eyes widen at my words, but only for a second before his cold expression returned.

“You picked rogues over your own pack and family. You’re a disgrace and aren’t worthy of the Alpha title. If all that wasn’t enough, you’re the reason why your mother hates me. She won’t even look at me anymore thanks to you.” He continued.

“You have no one to blame but yourself for that. She should reject you for how you treated her. You certainly don’t deserve her.” I argued.

“f**k you! I’m your father, don’t you dare disrespect me like that.” He said angrily.

“You’re not my father, you’re a traitor and a fool. Take him to the dungeon and lock him up.” I bellowed out the order.

My warriors immediately started moving towards my father.

“You can’t do this! I’m the former Alpha.” He shouted.

“You’re a traitor and for that you’ll spend the rest of your days locked up in a dark cell.” I spat back.

Before my warriors could reach him, a dagger appear in his hand. He must have had it hidden up his sleeve.

My father lunged at me with the dagger lifted above his head. I braced myself for his attack, when suddenly I heard the loud bang of a gun being fired. My father froze in his tracks before his eyes widened and the knife fell from his hand. Seconds later, b***d started gushing out of his mouth. He looked over his shoulder and I followed his gaze that landed on my mother who was standing behind him with a gun pointed at his back. The barrel was still smoking.

My father tried to speak, but before any words could leave his mouth his lifeless body fell to the ground.

My mother stood at the other end of the hall, still holding the gun in her trembling hands.

I made my way over to her and watched as a lone tear ran down her cheek.

“Mother? Are you ok?” I asked and she nodded vigorously.

“How are you not in pain?” I asked as I reached for the gun that was still in her hands. Once I cleared the chamber, I secured the firearm in the waistband of my pants.

“I am in pain, I’ve just learned to live through it over the years.” She replied while wiping the tear from her cheek. I saw her wince as she reached for her chest, but she was quick to recompose herself and hide the pain.

“I’m so sorry mom.” I said, before wrapping my arms around her in a comforting hug.

“The only thing that broke tonight, was our bond. I stopped loving that man a longtime ago.” She replied.

“I’m still sorry. What you just did couldn’t have been easy.” I said softly.

“He had it coming. He was a power hungry monster. Where do you think Kyle got his evil ways from? The world is a better place without the two of them in it.” My mother replied bitterly.

Knox POV

I stormed out of the dungeon and headed towards the Alpha floor. My wolf was fighting me for control. He wanted to shred my father to pieces. I on the other hand, wanted to know why he did it. How could he betray his own son like that?

I looked behind my mother and saw Chloe, she must have come out of our room after hearing all the commotion. She had a concerned expression on her face as she approached us.

“Are you guys ok?” She asked as she stopped next to us.

“Ya, we are now.” I replied.

“Why don’t you come sit down? I’ll get you a cup of tea.” Chloe suggested and my mother nodded.

I watched Chloe guide my mother into her room and towards the couch.

I turned my attention towards the four warriors that stood around my fathers dead body looking shocked.

“Take his body away, I don’t want to see it anymore.” I commanded.

“Yes Alpha.” One of the warriors replied.

I made my way into my mothers room and found Chloe sitting beside her with her arms wrapped around her shoulders. My mother was crying into her chest.

‘Are you ok with her for a little bit? I need to go and take care of a few things.’ I asked Chloe through the mind-link.

‘Ya, I’ll link you if anything changes.’ She replied and I nodded before leaving the room.

My nerves were acting up, I still couldn’t believe what had just happened. My father literally tried to kill me. Not only that, but my mother killed her own mate. She barely seemed affected by the pain, it goes to show how much she must have suffered over the years and I was completely oblivious to it. I hated my father even more for hurting her. She was a good woman and definitely didn’t deserve the pain he caused her.

I headed straight for my office while mind-linking Jag and Jo to meet me there once they were done in the dungeon. I was going to have to contact the council about what happened with my father. I was also going to provide them with a copy of the rogue’s statement. It was one thing to attack a pack and win it fairly, but it was a different story to hire rogues and ambush an Alpha while he was off his territory. I’m not sure if the rogue’s statement would be enough for them to act on it, but it was worth a try. Either way, I needed to to do something about Alpha Alec and Alpha Cameron before things got out of control. It was only a matter of time before one of their attacks was successful and someone I loved got hurt.

Once I reached my office, I went and sat behind my desk. It was already early in the morning and I had yet to get any sleep. I wanted to contact the council first and make sure that my pack was safe.

A few minutes after I arrived, there was a knock at the door.

“Come in.” I announced.

The door opened and Jag, Jo and Vincent came into my office. Jo and Jag sat across from me, while Vincent took a seat on the couch.

“Did you kill the rogue?” I asked.

“Yup, he’s dead.” Jag replied.

“Did he give anything else up?” I asked curiously.

“Not really, he said Alpha Alec paid them 250 thousand dollars to take you out. They knew you were visiting Alpha Victor’s pack and also how many warriors you brought with you.” Jag explained and my eyebrows furrowed together. How did my father replace out where we were going? I never told him. The only people that knew were Jo, Jag, their mates and the warriors that came with us.

“Your father probably had a listening device in here. How else would he know all that?” Jo stated and what he said made perfect sense. My father must have been secretly listening to my private conversations in order to know all that. I needed to have my office properly searched incase there was any hidden devices.

“My father’s dead.” I blurted out and saw the shocked expression on Jo and Jag’s faces. Vincent on the other hand didn’t seemed surprised by my statement.

“You killed him?” Jo asked.

“No, my mother did.” I replied and their eyes widened even more.

“Damn, didn’t think she had it in her.” Jag said, while shaking his head in disbelief.

“I didn’t either, but when he tried to stab me with a dagger, she didn’t hesitate to shoot him.” I explained.

“Good. After he sold you out, his own son, he deserved to die.” Vincent spoke up.

“Is your mother ok? I’m all too familiar with the feeling of losing your mate and it’s by far the most painful thing I’ve ever experienced.” Vincent asked, with a look of concern on his face.

“She barely looked affected by the pain. I guess he was cheating on her all along so she got use to the feeling.” I gritted out between clenched teeth. I hated the thought of what my mother went through for all those years. She was so good at hiding it, I always saw her smiling and presenting herself like the perfect Luna. How could I have missed it?

“Wow, he was a bigger a*****e than I thought. How could someone do that to their own mate? He didn’t deserve her.” Vincent replied, while shaking his head in disbelief.

“I don’t even know what to say, that’s messed up.” Jag blurted out before a heavy sigh left his lips.

“Tell me about it.” I replied with my own sigh.

I looked behind my mother and saw Chloe, she must have come out of our room after hearing all the commotion. She had a concerned expression on her face as she approached us.

“What are we going to do about Alpha Alec? He can’t just get away with what he did tonight.” Vincent asked.

“No, he can’t. If the council isn’t willing to help, then we need to come up with a plan. Him and Alpha Cameron won’t stop attacking us until I’m dead and if Cameron got his hands on Chloe, who knows what he would do to her.” I replied and my b***d started boiling just at the thought of Cameron laying a finger on her. I glanced over at Vincent and saw his jaw clench at the mention of his daughter.

“Listen, I’ve been out of the loop for years, I don’t know what’s been happening in other packs. I didn’t want to ask Chloe what happened between her and Alpha Cameron, but I need to know. What did he do to her and her mother?” Vincent asked and his tone was a mixture of pain and anger.

“Are you sure? I’ll admit, my wolf almost took over when I first found out.” I stated truthfully.

“Ya, I’m sure. I need to know so I can fully understand the severity of the circumstances.” He replied, while running his hands down him face in frustration.

I told Vincent everything, how Cameron treated Chloe and her mother, how he rejected her and finally how he killed her mother right in front of her eyes. I left out the details on how he killed her, since Vincent looked like he was barely hanging on.

“Are you ok?” I asked when I was done explaining everything. Vincent’s whole body was trembling in anger. I didn’t blame him, I felt my own anger rising as I recalled the story.

“I’m going to f*****g kill him.” He gritted out.

“Oh, it’s only a matter of time before that a*****e meets his fate.” I added.

“I’ll be talking to my brother about getting extra warriors over here. I think we need to make a move before him and Alpha Alec can.” Vincent suggested.

“Thank you and I agree. Our two packs combined outnumber theirs. We could attack both packs simultaneously and wipe them all out at the same time.” I suggested and I noticed that Vincent was deep in thought.

“That could work, especially if they weren’t expecting the attack.” He replied with a light nod after a few minutes.

“Let me call the council. I need to report what happened with my father and also, I want to tell them what the rogue admitted. Maybe they would be willing to help us.” I said.

“The council? A bunch of useless old bastards. They’re just as corrupt as Cameron and Alec.” Vincent scoffed and I frowned. What did he know about the council that I wasn’t aware of?

“Either way. I still need to call them.” I replied and picked up the phone before dialling their number.

After three rings, a female picked up the phone.

“Good morning, Johnson and Reid’s accounting services.” She greeted.

“Good morning, this is Alpha Knox’s. I’m calling to speak with someone from the council.” I replied.

“Please hold.” She said before the line went quiet.

A minute later, a familiar voice spoke through the line.

“Alpha Knox, this is Troy speaking. How can I help you?” He asked.

I told him everything that happened, from the rogue attack, to the rogue’s confession and finally the death of my father. Troy remain quiet while I spoke.

“That’s a lot to take in, Alpha Knox. How do you know the rogue didn’t make it up? I’m talking about the part were he said Alpha Alec was involved?” He asked.

“I’ll send you a copy of the statement. He didn’t make it up. Rogues don’t usually work together unless there was something in it for them. They were definitely paid. Plus, he had no reason to lie about it.” I argued.

“Send us the statement and we will review it.” Troy said.

“Sure. I’ll email it to you as soon as I hang up.” I replied in frustration. I hated how casual Troy was being about everything.

“And Alpha Knox, we only have two statements left to take before Max’s investigation is complete. Why don’t we set up a meeting for two days from now? We should have our verdict by then.” Troy added and I noticed Jo perk up at the mention of his mate. I knew he was anxious for them to finish their investigation, he wanted to move on with Max and be able to put all this behind them.

“Sure, what time?” I asked.

“How about Wednesday, at 11:00Am?” He suggested.

“That works, I’ll make sure Max is there. Who else will be present?” I asked.

“Well, it will be a private meeting, but Alpha Alec will likely be there since Max is accused of killing his Beta.” Troy explained and Jo immediately stiffened.

“I understand. We will be there on Wednesday.” I replied in a short tone.

“Alpha Knox, I expect you and your men to be on their best behaviour if Alpha Alec is present. There will be no fighting in our office, is that clear?” He asked sternly.

“Crystal.” I gritted out.

“Good, we will see you Wednesday.” Troy said before hanging up the phone.

Great, Alpha Alec just tried to have my mate and I killed and now I needed to be civil with him. That wasn’t going to be an easy task.
