Saving His Feral Mate
Chapter 9: Progress

Alpha Knox POV

We stared at each in silence for what felt like an eternity, but was realistically maybe fifteen minutes. Neither one of of us, was willing to give into the other.

I decided to make myself more comfortable. I walked over to the porch, which was only approximately 20 feet from where my mate stood and sat down. The older gentleman was seating on a chair behind me, just watching the show. I didn’t feel threatened by him in the slightest. He certainly wasn’t as angry at me, as his partner was.

“What do you think you’re doing?” The old woman asked, in an irritated tone.

“Making myself more comfortable. She won’t listen to me and I won’t leave until she does.” I said, while shrugging my shoulders casually.

“You Alpha’s are unbelievable, you know that?” She spat out angrily and shook her head in disbelief.

“I am pretty amazing, once you get to know me.” I replied, shooting my mate a toothy grin. A low growl left her chest, but I was please to see her sit down. She almost seemed to be letting her guard down a little. I’m not about to test that theory by getting to close, the woman is savage, even I’m a little nervous about her unpredictable nature. We stayed silent for another 15 minutes or so, just staring intensely at one another.

“So Scar, eh?” I asked and both my mate and the older woman looked at me, with confused expressions.

“She called you, Scar.” I added, referring to what the old woman had called her earlier.

“I don’t know her name, I just call her Scar, short for Scarlet, because of her red fur. I’ve seen her around so much, I was sick of calling her wolf, she-wolf, hey you and girl.” The older woman replied, with the same irritated tone as always.

“How did you meet, Scar?” I asked curiously, glancing between the two of them.

“I’ve told you enough, Alpha. It’s time for you and your men leave.” She barked out.

“No can do. I just found my mate and I’m not leaving without her.” I replied casually and this time, both my mate and the older woman growled angrily.

‘Do you really want to fight your mate again?’ Jag asked, through the mind-link, sounding slightly nervous.

‘I hope it doesn’t come down to that, but how else am I going to get her to sit down with me and listen?’ I asked and glanced over at him to see him let out a heavy sigh. He knew just as well as I did, that she wasn’t willing to talk with me, not yet. I ended the mind-link when he didn’t reply.

“How about this.” I said and paused for a second, waiting to get the attention form both my mate and the older woman. As soon as I got it, I spoke again.

“I send my men back to my territory and you two, leave me alone with my mate.” I said, motioning to the older woman and the man.

“But, Alp…” Jag tried to intervene, but I held my hand up to silence him. I knew he wouldn’t like the idea, but if that’s what it took for her to truly listen to me, then I’d do it. The old woman scoffed, obviously not liking the idea either, but I kept my eyes on my mate, I wanted to see her reaction to my request.

She looked at me with irritation in her eyes and I swear, there was a steady low growl that rumbled from her chest. But what gave me the slightest bit of hope, was the curiosity that flashed in her eyes.

She looked up at the woman and nodded ever so slightly, silently telling her that it was ok.

The old woman let out an irritated huff, but complied and walked up the porch to meet her partner.

“We will be just inside Scar, if you need us, just call out.” The older man spoke for the first time. He gave me a warning look, before walking inside with the older lady and I couldn’t help but be impressed. He showed not an ounce of fear, when he look at me.

“Go back home. I’ll join you guys later.” I ordered my men.

‘Alpha, do you thin…’ Jag started through the mind-link and I cut him off.

‘Go!’ I ordered, this time using my Alpha aura. I didn’t want to waste any more time. I wanted to spend some alone time with my mate.

‘Fine. But so you know, I don’t like this one bit.’ He replied, with a heavy sigh.

I watched, as my men retreated the way we had arrived, leaving my mate and I alone. I turned my attention back to her.

“Come sit down.” I offered, patting the step beside me with my hand. She glared at me, from where she sat, but didn’t budge. I wasn’t surprise, I knew I was probably pushing my luck, but I had to try.

“I’m Alpha Knox’s, of the Volcano Pack.” I introduced myself. She was watching me, but her expression remained the same, cold and irritated.

“I’ve been searching for you for 5 years. The only thing missing in my life, was you, my fated mate.” I said and looked over to see that there was no change in her demeanour. I wonder, if I’ll ever be able to break through her walls?

“You can only imagine how much of a shock it was, when I finally found you and you tried to kill me.” I continued, with a dry chuckle.

“I just want to understand why?” I asked and I didn’t mean to, but my tone came out sad and slightly desperate.

She looked at me and for the slightest moment, I thought I saw pity in her eyes, but I was gone before I could be sure.

“I’m going to guess that something happened to you in your past, that caused you to close yourself off. Just know, I won’t ever hurt you. The opposite actually, I want nothing more than to help you.” I said sincerely. She watched me carefully, clearly trying to see any signs of deceit, but she won’t replace any, I meant every word.

I could tell she was having an internal battle with herself, a small part of her wanted to believe me, but the bigger part, stood strong and despised my whole existence. I watched as she laid down on the ground, with her paws out in front of her. I couldn’t help but smile at her. At least she was relaxing slightly, I took it as a personal win.

“You know, your wolf is beautiful. I wish I knew your name.” I said and softly smiled at her. Her cold demeanour softened ever so slightly and she looked away from me. Clearly she wasn’t used to getting compliments.

“How about I tell you about myself?” I asked, with a cheerful grin. She looked at me, before laying her head down on her front paws. Clearly she understood, that this was going to take a while.

“I have a younger brother, Kyle, we don’t really see eye to eye on things, but he’s family so we try and be civil. He’s actually expecting his first pup with his mate.” I started and glanced over to see what my mate thought about pups. I certainly want lots of them, I hope she does too. I was slightly disappointed, when I saw no change in her expression. I let out a sigh, before continuing.

“My parents are fated mates, they love each other deeply and I am envious of their relationship. Unfortunately, since I’m the Alpha and it’s already been five years since I turned of age, they want me to take a chosen mate. They say the pack needs a Luna and since they don’t know about you yet, they think it’s time I settle down.” I explained and my eyes grew wide, with both shock and excitement, when she growled at my words. I knew the bond had to affect her. Deep down inside, she’s drawn to me, whether she accepts it or not.

“Don’t worry, I won’t be taking a chosen mate.” I said, with a light chuckle. She growled again, but eventually laid her head back down on her paws and relaxed.

“I’m 24, My closest friend, is my Beta Jag, who was one of the guys here early. You’ll like him, he’s pretty easy going. My pack is big, I’d like to think we are one of the more modern ones. We don’t discriminate base on rank or gender. That’s definitely one thing that sets us apart from other packs.” I continued to explain. It was weird, I know I was having a one sided conversation, but it didn’t matter, I felt complete comfortable with her and could keep talking all night, if she let me.

“I enjoy training, reading and I’m super competitive. I hope you aren’t because if you are, we should definitely avoid playing something like monopoly together. Oh, and don’t tell anyone, but every now and then, I like being the little spoon.” I joked and looked over at her. I swear I saw amusement in her eyes, before she quickly went back to her cold front.

We stayed the way we were, for hours. Sometimes just in comfortable silence and other times, I would talk to her. It was late at time, probably around midnight.. By now, she knew everything there was to know about me, but I still didn’t know anything about her, other then the fact that she was a rogue, and seemed to be living as a feral wolf.

I must of dozed off at some point. I woke up with my head in my hands and my elbows rested on my knees.

I quickly stood up, when I remembered where I was. I looked around frantically, looking for my mate but she was nowhere to be found.

Damn it, she must of left after I fell asleep. I looked back at the cabin, it was quiet and dark inside. I didn’t smell my mate coming from it and I knew she wasn’t in there.

I was frustrated that I fell asleep, but I guess being around her finally let me relax. It had been days since I last slept.

I made my way back to my territory. I couldn’t help the smile that creeped onto my face. As small as the progress was tonight, it was still progress and I’m going to take it as a win. I can’t wait to see her again. She’s going to love me eventually, I just know it.
