Aria’s POV

Shock.

That was the only word I could use to describe the state I was in after I woke up and remembered what I had seen in the woods.

The others had been right about Roma all along and they didn’t even know it.

The Demon Alpha.

His wolf was bigger, much bigger than the others and those red eyes that had haunted my dreams every time I closed my eyes belonged to Roma.

But more than shock, I had many questions. A thousand of them.

How had he become that way?

What could have turned him into such a ferocious creature that he needed all of those chains in his bedroom to keep the beast at bay?

And why had he not wanted to harm me but didn’t look like he would hesitate to harm Raphael?

Was he trying to make sure that I would not tell anyone about what he was?

I had so many questions but the problem was that I knew that all of my answers lay with one person.

Roma Ruggiero.

Scian was the only reason why Roma hadn’t barged into this bedroom to speak to me and I knew that it was only a matter of time before we had this conversation.

The door opened and I didn’t realize that I had been holding my breath until Sophia walked in, holding a small bag.

“You really need to stop ending up in the infirmary, young lady. Scian needs to lock the door and chase you out whenever you come here and I’m being serious.” She said and her face was straight for a minutes before we both burst out laughing.

Sophia couldn’t be serious to save her life. It was one of the reasons I loved her. She called me a sunflower but she was the one that always made me laugh.

When she handed me the small bag and I looked inside, my eyes widened with pleasant surprise at the bars of chocolate and cupcakes that she had brought and I grinned at her.

“Oh my God, how did you get all of these? I love you!” I pulled her in for a hug and when she pulled back with a smirk, I raised my brows.

“What?”

“Well, I might have had a little help from your friend, Scott. I told him that I wanted to go into town and he followed me and bought a lot more chocolate than I imagined. Enough to feed an entire town, if said towns were grown adults.”

I didn’t understand where she was going as her smile got even bigger and when I raised my brows, she made a show of knocking on my forehead.

“You’re so clueless, aren’t you? Scotty totally has the hots for you, silly girl.”

My eyes widened in surprise and I shook my head immediately.

“No he doesn’t.”

She rolled her eyes and knocked on my forehead again.

“You’re so beautiful and so clueless, it’s so funny to watch. The young man could not stop smiling everytime he mentioned your name on the trip which was every f*****g time, Aria Ajello.”

I fought the urge to truly consider what Sophia was saying because it couldn’t be possible, could it?

Scott was my very good friend and he had been nothing but really kind to me. Did that mean he liked me? I didn’t believe that. Especially because of how Roma had been kind to me and had no feelings for me whatsoever no matter how much I hoped that he did.

Besides, I was still very much a human so it made no sense why Scott who was a werewolf would like a plain Jane like me.

“You’re thinking very loud, Aria.” Sophia said and clucked her tongue.

“What do you mean?”

“It’s all over your face. I can see the wheels in your head spinning as you reject the idea that someone like Scott could ever like someone like you.”

When I looked away, my face red with embarrassment at being caught, she grabbed my chin and forced me to look at her.

“You really need to be walking around with a mirror and just because you’re practically turning into a tomato, I’m not going to bug you on this topic. I’m going to let you confirm for yourself that this guy likes you and everything about your little sexy human body. Now, lets talk about what the hell happened that made you go into that scary forest. I heard Salem is going to be banished for deliberately trying to cause harm to a member of the pack.”

My eyes widened in surprise and I couldn’t help but ask in curiosity.

“A member of the pack?”

“Yes, you, you little silly girl. You’re a pack member and you have as much rights as any one of us here whether or not you are human, wolf or a flying cockroach. As long as Roma sees you as pack, it’s more than a done deal. It’s a f*****g law.” She finished with an eye roll and I struggled to let that sink in.

That I was accepted by the pack as a member. As one of their own. Just the mention of Roma made my heart jump in my chest and I cleared my throat.

“Do you really mean she was banished?”

“Well, according to what I heard, instead of waiting to be punished by Roma, she voluntarily agreed to leave the pack to her distant aunt’s until Roma decides that she has paid enough for her crime, and yes, what she did to you is a crime. I don’t know her reasons for using her authority to send you into the forbidden forest but it doesn’t matter. You’re safe and sound. Thanks to Roma and Raphael, my one and only forever crush.” She sighed dreamily at the end and I couldn’t bring myself to tell her about the fact that Roma turned in to a large dark creature that was probably the scariest thing in the entire forest.

I didn’t think I would ever be able to. It felt like I had to keep his secret. Like it was something that now that I knew, made Roma more vulnerable and was like a c***k in the armour that he showed everyone else.

And as much as I couldn’t deny that I was afraid, the part of me that wanted to protect Roma’s secret was winning because I realized that seeing Roma in that form had neither lessened the truth that I was hopelessly in love with him or the reality that we were too different from each other.

“So, I need to get back to work because the wolves are going to start arriving very early tomorrow for the ball. And yeah, before you say you’re not going, I got you a dress on my way back from town.”

Before I could say anything, she planted a k**s on my cheek and ran out of the room, leaving me with my mouth hanging wide open in shock.

Scian had told me that I would be discharged today so except I suddenly fell sick, there was no missing that ball tomorrow or avoiding Roma Ruggiero.
