Dahlia, Hudson's father, Luis, Hudson, and Polly used to live with Agatha at the Amery Mansion when Hudson's father was still alive.
But ever since Hudson's father passed away, Luis moved away to another country and took over their branch of the company there while Hudson became the CEO of the Amery Group in Country B.
It was then that Hudson brought his mother the Moonlight Mansion and let her live there with his sister while he bought the Crescent Mansion for himself, which later became his marital home with Cherise. All of Agatha's maids had been working for her ever since she moved there. And they were very lawyer to her.
Hudson looked at the lines of staff in front of him and waited for them to answer his question.
The staff looked at each other, unsure of what to say, but the head housekeeper, knowing how much Hudson hated Cherise, didn't hesitate to answer their Young Master's question.
"Of course we did," she said smugly. "We all know how much Madam, Miss Polly, and you, Master Hudson, hated her, and since Madam Dahlia allowed us to, we always made sure that she knew her place." Hudson kept silent, listening to the head housekeeper proudly expressing how they all abused Cherise while inside, he was fuming.
"That girl deserved everything that Madam, Polly, and we threw everything at her," she sneered. "A country bumpkin like her had no place in becoming your wife, much less fox us to respect her."
The other maids, who had been quiet so far, echoed that statement. They all agreed that their treatments or mistreatments of Cherise were justified.
The head housekeeper and all the maids kept insulting Cherise in front of Hudson, thinking that he would be happy about hearing how they had treated her because Dahlia loved it when they mistreated Cherise.
Hudson crossed his legs, folded his arms across his broad chest, and asked them calmly, "What did you say and do to her?"
"Oh, we just insulted and mocked her like Madam and Polly did." The head housekeeper waved her hand in the air as if it wasn't a big deal to do such things to a person.
"And we also made her do all the household chores every time she was here," another maid added with the same smug tone as the head housekeeper.
"And made sure to make it hard for her," another one bragged
"How so?" Hudson asked, still with the same calmness he didn't know he could possess while inside, he was boiling with rage.
"Things like "accidentally" spilling coffee after she cleaned the floor or table." That last bitch of a maid made a quotation mark when she said the word accidentally, and her words made the rest of the maids snicker as if they enjoyed relishing the memory of torturing Cherise.
"How about anything physical? Ever laid a hand on her?" Hudson asked again, and he knew that would be his last question before all of the maids felt his wrath.
"That goes without question" the head housekeeper spoke for the rest of them again. "We "accidentally" stepped on her hands all the time, shoved her to the floor, and I even slapped her a few times."
"Is that all? Anything else you did to her?" Hudson's words sounded encouraging, so the maids became bolder.
"We wanted to do more, but she was so fragile," one of the maids mocked.
"We wouldn't want to go to jail because of murdering a dog, would we?" the head housekeeper asked the other maids, and they all laughed in agreement.
Miles, who was standing still and silent behind Hudson, stared at all the staff of the Moonlight Villa in disbelief.
How could they all do such vile things to Miss Cherise and feel proud? Even if they hated her, she was still their Young Madam. The disrespect they had for her was sickening.
Miles glanced at his boss, wondering what he would do after listening to those sick words. Would he give them a raise and bonus? He sure hoped not.
His boss was kind of an enigma when it came to Miss Cherise. Sometimes, Miles didn't know if his boss truly hated his ex-wife or not.
He was harsh, yes, but at the same time, he would not want other food and eagerly waited for Miss Cherise's lunch boxes to be delivered even though he masked it with his usual coolness.
No one other than Miles knew how many times Hudson had asked him to cancel or rearrange night meetings so he could go back to Crescent Villa as fast as he could.
For outsiders, and Miles guessed for Miss Cherise, too, it might seem like his boss was deliberately choosing to get back late and avoid her, but that wasn't the case.
No matter how much Miles wished he could rearrange his boss' night conference calls, it was just impossible to do so as they had partners and businesses overseas, which made Hudson have to have late-night conference meetings due to the time differences between Country B and other countries.
So, Miles wondered why his boss asked the staff those questions and why now, of all times, when he had divorced Miss Cherise.
After his boss' self-blamed in the car, Miles would like to think his boss would do the right thing. He was sure even if his boss still hated Miss Cherise, he wouldn't let them get away with this, and he hoped he was right. Hudson uncrossed his legs and arms, spreading his long arms across the headrest, and tapped a finger against it.
"Let me get this straight.." he started, his voice smooth and calm, nothing out of the ordinary. "You mocked, insulted, asked her to do chores, stepped on her hands, slapped her, and treated her like a dog, is that right?"
"We would've done more," the head house said, and all the maids agreed with her again, oblivious to the impending doom about to befall all of them.
"But as we said, she was too fragile. It was lucky we didn't treat her like a homeless dog and asked her to eat from the trash, which she deserved," she added with a sneer.
"Deserved to be treated like a homeless dog and ate trash, you said?" Hudson's eyes narrowed, and his voice turned sharp and even colder, much colder than anyone had ever heard.
No one could have missed the change in his demeanor, including the head housekeeper and the rest of the maids.
Their sneers and smiles froze in place, and at this point in time, they finally felt that impending doom. Even Miles had begun breaking into cold sweats.
Even though this was what he wanted his boss to do, the iciness coming from his boss' every pore was next-level, and he felt like he was about to meet the Devil himself.
"So you were saying... My wife, the Young Madam of the Amery family, is worse than a dog?" Hudson sneered.
"Young Master Hudson-"
"How dare you lot treated my wife like she was beneath you!" Hudson interrupted the head housekeeper's sentence sharply.
"We thought you'd be happy," the head housekeeper tried to defend herself and the rest of the maids. "You hate her."
"I hated her, but that doesn't mean you were allowed to abuse her," Hudson sneered. "You are all fired."
"But Young Master-"
"Miles, see to it that they vacate the villa within thirty minutes." Hudson ignored the maids. "Let the guards help you."
"Yes, Sir," Miles said, thankful his boss had done the right thing, and moved to grab the head housekeeper's arm to drag her to her room so she could pack their stuff while his other hand sent a message to the guards to come in and help with the rest of the maids. "You can't do this to us, Young Master!" the maids wailed while being dragged. "Madam Dahlia allowed us to do those things to Cherise!"
"Cherise?" Hudson kept sneering at the maids. "Even until now you still disrespect her?"
"No, Young Master," they began pleading. Some kneeled down in front of Hudson, begging for forgiveness. "Please don't fire us. We promise not to do it anymore."
"You realized I'm now divorced from her?" Hudson looked at them with disdain. "It wouldn't matter if you promised not to do it anymore."
He didn't tell them he was planning to get Cherise back, but he knew he couldn't keep such staff. Even if he hated her, servants should still know their places, which they obviously didn't.
The guards came in and began dragging the maids. "Madam Dahlia won't allow you to fire us!" one of the maids shouted.
"I was the one who paid for your salary, not her," Hudson said coldly, looking at the group of maids. "I can even cut her off from having any allowance. Do you think she can stop me?"
Then Hudson ignored them for real despite them screaming, shouting, apologizing, and begging him.
He closed his eyes and rubbed the bridge of his nose. He had thought of them abusing them, but when he heard them say it, his heart ached so much, and the guilt and regret hit him in full force again.
It was because of him. It was because he hated Cherise openly, that even the servants dared to abuse her.
But he had gotten rid of them. Now, he needed to wait for his mother and sister to return from their breakfast to give them their punishments.
While Hudson was wallowing in self-regret and guilt, Cherise was having a cheerful breakfast with Katherine, Paula, Julian, Logan, and Tristan at Julian's villa.
They laughed, talked about the campaign, and planned what to do with the extra time they would have, filling the villa with their excitement.
When the crew arrived in the afternoon, they departed for the airport, with Julian already arranging another private plane for them.
It took them five hours on air before reaching Country A, and when they landed, limos were already ready and waiting for them. Visit Jo b n i b.com to read the complete chapters for free. If you are not reading this novel on Job ni b .com, some sentences are incomplete. Cherise, her brothers, and friends took one limo and the other for the crew, who couldn't stop thanking Julian for everything, which Julian told them was no problem with a graceful smile.
None of the crew had ever received such treatments before, and they were as excited or even more excited than Cherise and her group.
They thought they couldn't get more excited until the car reached a massive iron gate and glided through a driveway with a vast garden around it.
It took them thirty minutes from the gate to reach the Alster Mansion, and they gaped as they saw how opulent it was.
The Alster Mansion was one of the oldest mansions in Country A, and it really was massive, with flower gardens of various sorts, a maze, water fountains, and lakes.
It looked more like a castle from a fairytale book, minus the pointy roofs, and had a hundred rooms to accommodate guests.
When they stepped inside, they were even more amazed by how sparkling everything was. The room they first stepped into was huge, just like a Great Hall with crystal chandeliers hanging above them and the Grand Staircase on the other side of the room, which led left and right. Contrary to most mansions, which showed off their wealth by choosing white and gold themes, the Alster Mansion consisted of white, silver, and midnight blue themes, and with the glow from the chandeliers, it looked even more impressive. Cherise, Katherine, Paula, and Tristan were still laughing and joking around when they heard the booming voice of a man.
"What are you ruffians doing in my mansion?
