Sweet Subterfuge novel by Trina Duo -
Chapter 824
Wendy had gotten the stew base from a friend in Caldor. One was spicy and the other was tomato-flavored. They were both her favorites.
Thus, the person who enjoyed the meal the most was Wendy herself, along with Aster who was clueless.
As for the others, Kevan was fuming as he didn't get to sit next to Larissa. He had a sour expression on his face throughout dinner.
Lewis was still upset with Larissa meddling in his relationships.
He looked displeased and did not speak an extra word. Still, he indulged in as much seafood as he wanted.
Marilyn remained quiet, probably due to her unfamiliarity with everyone or Lewis' attitude.
Larissa was stuck between Lewis and Marilyn.
She tried to engage in conversations with both of them, switching between one and the other.
Before the meal was over, she was exhausted and regretted her choice in trying to set Lewis up.
Finally, the meal was over. The food that Kevan prepared was devoured.
Even the tomato stew was half gone, though Wendy had to take most of the credit for that.
She sat back in her chair and patted her rounded belly, exclaiming, "Amazing! I wish that every day could be like this!"
"Sure, as long as you're willing to foot the bill. We can eat like kings every day!" Larissa smirked.
Wendy glared at her and snorted. "Fine! I know that's because you favor Mr. Rogers over me! Geez, even Mr. Rogers himself hasn't complained! I never thought you would choose your lover over an old friend like me! I misjudged you!"
"Speaking of that, your lover should have landed by now, right? Aren't you going to give him a call and check up on him?" Larissa looked at her watch. Wendy was reminded of her oversight. She jumped up from the chair, but when she caught sight of Larissa's pointed look, she sat back down.
"What's there to ask about? He's a grown man, he can't get lost!" Wendy suppressed her concern and put on an indifferent air. "I'm telling you, Larissa. I'm not as shallow as you. At this moment, nothing is more important than my idol, Mr. Rogers!"
Wendy's tone and actions made Larissa feel an urge to beat her up.
Still, she seemed oblivious and continued paying compliments to Kevan. "Mr. Rogers, you worked so hard to prepare dinner tonight! Let me do the dishes! Larissa will handle the trash. You just sit back and relax. After that, Larissa will give you a massage! She'll bring you some snacks too."
Larissa voiced her displeasure, "Why are you dragging me into this?"
"Mr. Rogers has been working hard all afternoon to prepare a feast for us. We need to repay him, okay?" Wendy argued.
"True, but..." Why was she carrying the brunt of the work?
Before Larissa could finish her sentence, Kevan shot her a piercing glance from across the table. She swallowed her words.
"Alright, I'll take out the trash. And I'll do the rest."
It was getting late, so Lewis and Marilyn did not stay for long. They both came in their own cars. Thus, she did not insist on Lewis sending Marilyn home.
Anyway, he had warned Larissa to stay out of his affairs.
Larissa only told Marilyn to drive carefully and text her when she got home.
She cleared the dining table and got Lewis to take the trash downstairs when he left.
Larissa remembered her promise.
When the rest of them were lounging on the sofa, Larissa went to the kitchen.
She cut up some fruits before she plated them and brought them out. She even placed a fork beside Kevan's hand.
Kevan smirked in satisfaction.
He picked up a strawberry with his fork and ate it.
Then, he turned with his back toward her.
Pointing to his shoulder, he said, "I'm feeling a little sore here, give me a massage."
She noticed Wendy's smug expression and pursed her lips.
Larissa placed her hands on Kevan's shoulders.
She had some knowledge of massage techniques. So, she was more skilled than the average person.
Feeling comfortable, Kevan closed his eyes and enjoyed the massage in silence.
After massaging his tense shoulders, Larissa moved her hands up from his neck to his temples.
