Chapter 5

PRESENT DAY

ISABEL

I ran out of the room, my heart beating hard in my chest. I just wanted to leave, to be far away from him.

What was he doing here? Why did he come here? It’s been four years since I last saw him and I’ve been living just fine so why does he have to appear now?

Isabell Isabel!” I heard Leah call and her heavy footstep behind me but I didn’t stop. I just wanted to get stuff and leave this place.

I entered the kitchen to take my bag to leave when Leah stopped me. “What’s wrong with you? Why did you leave? What happened in there?” She asked her questions one after the other all in one breath.

“Can I leave for tonight?” I asked.

I didn’t fail to notice how the skin between her brows creased. “What do you mean? Did something happen?” She asked inquisitively.

I shook my head. I’m pleading Leah. Let me leave for the night and I promise to explain everything to you

tomorrow.”

She kept quiet for some seconds before she spoke, “This person came all the way to see you. Especially the host of tonight’s event. They looked forward to this night.”

She sighed. Alright, but you better explain what all of this is for okay?”

Inodded my head. “I promise to explain to you and thank you.”

I took my bag and left the restaurant. I need to go home and gather my thoughts and feelings. I didn’t understand my emotions. I wasn’t sure if I was angry or sad but I knew seeing him only brought back painful memories.

It was only when I got out of the restaurant that I realized that my car was gone. I had asked Andrew to drive it over to Adeline because I expected to close at midnight and I don’t drive myself because of memories.

I didn’t realize how lost in thoughts I was and that I was in the middle of the road until I almost got hit by a car.

I froze on the spot and my heart dropped at the same time, my bag from my hand.

‘Oh,

my goodness. I’m so sorry. Are you alright?” I neared a masculine voice and I snapped out of my shock.

Tm so sorry. I didn’t…” I apologized, trailing off as I didn’t know what else to say.

“Thank goodness you are safe. Are you alright?” He asked as he bent to help me pick up my bag.

“Thank you and I should be the one apologizing, I apologized when I saw the face of the stranger. He was tall, had a tailor- fitted body as the suit he wore hugged him perfectly and he had long hair too packed in a man bun.

“Are you alright?” He snapped me out of my thoughts. I didn’t realize that,

“Uhmm… yes,” I stuttered.

“Where do you stay? I can drop you off, he suggested but I shook my head.

As much as I wanted to accept it considering

I’d have to call an Uber to come pick me up, I didn’t know him and I didn’t want his help.

“It’s fine. You don’t have to,” I refused.

“I insist. Just let me,” he held my arms while staring at me.

It wasn’t like it was a bad idea anyway. “Alright,” I replied.

He led me towards his car and opened it for me. I sat in and shortly he came in. As he began to drive off, I couldn’t help but recall the face of Logan.

It’s been four years and yet he still had effects on me. The words he said to me four years ago resurfaced and all 1 felt was pain in my chest. It hurts so much.

I have never loved you, Isabel. I can’t. I mean why would I A weak and useless omega like you? How could you even imagine being with me? Someone of my status with you? You dreamt too big,” he remarked to my face.

Those words. The words shattered me and haunted me for days. I cried for days. I couldn’t sleep or eat. Words about me went around and what did my father do? He sold all of our property and took us away for a fresh start.

The betrayal felt like yesterday. It was still fresh in my memories. I hate him so much. Just why did he have to appear now?

“A penny for your thought?” I snapped out of it when I heard the stranger’s thought.

I cleared my throat as I adjusted to my seat.

You haven’t told me where you live or do you want me to take you somewhere else?” He asked.

“Oh, pardon me. I’m… I’m so sorry.” I apologized. Meeting Logan again had just made me lose it. I told him Adeline’s house address

“It’s fine. You seem to have a lot on your mind. You might want to be careful next time. Not all men are nice you know,” he remarked.

Thanks so much.” I said.

“You have been saying just two words to me. It’s fine. By the way, what’s your name?” He asked.

From my peripheral view, I stared at him. “Isabel.”

“That’s a lovely name for a beautiful lady. I’m Tim by the way. Nice to meet you.”

“Nice to meet you too.” I replied.

I didn’t know how it started but we ended up having a conversation and it helped me for the moment. I didn’t remember Logan anymore as I conversed with Tim.

“That’s so funny. I can imagine that so well,” I remarked as tears blurred my eyes from too much laughter at Tim’s joke.

“It’s good to see you smile. You have a beautiful smile, he stated.

“Please stop the car here,” I quickly said when I realized that we were close to Adeline’s place.

“Here? Is this where you stay?” He asked.

“Yes. Just stop the car here, I replied,

“Alright,” he nodded his head in understanding before stopping the car.

“Thanks so much for today.” I said to him with a grateful heart.

“You are welcome, he replied.

I watched as he drove off before making my way to Adeline’s building. The moment I stepped into her apartment,))my kids ran up to me and hugged me.

It felt so nice having them around me and it made me feel at ease. Just why was I bothered when they were my joy and my peace and the reason I’ve come this far?

I love you so much, Emma and Ethan.”
