The Alpha King's Rebellious Queen
The Alpha King’s Rebellious Queen Chapter 56

Cassius’s POV

Jemma left to get lunch while I finished up with the calls I had to make. It seemed everyone needed mediation this morning. Did they all start conflicts during the coronation? I shook my head as I finished yet another call. Deke had come in with information on his continued investigation of Silver Paw’s trafficking activities. It was a mess we were hopefully going to clean up soon.

I sat back in my chair as a feeling of dread came over me. ‘Cass,’ Maria mind linked me, ‘Jemma just brought that young alpha that’s mated to your sister to see his father.’

I growled loudly. How dare she defy me? “f**k,” I rumbled out loud. ‘I’ll be right there, Maria.’ I replied to my delta. With a frustrated sigh, I stood up and stormed out of my office. ‘Do I have to babysit my queen,’ I snarled.

‘I don’t think so,’ Enoch replied.

I reached the dungeon in no time, and Maria had the door opened for me. “Why did you let her in?”

Maria turned her brown eyes on me, “Her orders are as valid as yours.”

I growled as we marched down the hall. I felt a jolt of pain and let out a growl. Jemma had gotten herself hurt again. We reached the door, and I flung it open. I looked in on a horror scene as former alpha Reynold lay on the cell floor bleeding out. Casper was staring at him with a bloody hand, and Jemma was leaning against the wall. “What have you done, Casper?”

“I saved you the trouble of executing my father,” He replied matter of factly. I was unsure of what to do at this moment. I should lock him up, but he did sort of save us the trouble.

Maria entered the inner cell and kicked the body. “I think he’s dead,” She muttered.

“He’s dead. You can lock me up if you must,” My brother-in-law stated without emotion.

I shook my head. I decided not to punish him. “No, what’s done is done. Now get out of here.”

“If you would have my father’s remains sent to my pack,” He said before walking out of the cell.

I turned my attention to my mate. She shuddered as I reached out and ran my hand along her burned arm. She hissed painfully. “We need to get you to the hospital,” I said to her in my cold tone. She followed me out without protest. We walked in silence out of the dungeon and towards the hospital.

The nurses sitting at the front desk looked up as we entered. They bowed. “The queen has been burned with silver,” I told them. One stepped forward and ushered Jemma down the hall and into an exam room. I walked behind. Jemma sat on an exam table, and a moment later, Angela walked in.

“So, Maria tells me you were having fun in the dungeon?” She asked Jemma.

“Just examine her, Angie.” I nearly growled at my friend.

She shrugged and began to administer first aid to Jemma’s arm. “Is this all that happened?”

“I may have been knocked on my a*s,” Jemma looked at the ground as I growled lowly.

Angela looked at me and sighed before she had Jemma lie down on the table. “Do you feel any pain?”

“No, just my arm.”

“I’m going to do a quick exam anyways,” She explained. It took only a minute or so. “Everything appears fine.”

“Do you think you can tell how far along she is with her pregnancy?” I suddenly asked. It was what the elders needed to know.

Angela nodded and walked out of the room, and returned with an ultrasound machine. She squirted gel on Jemma’s stomach and moved the probe around. “When did you first detect your pups, Cass?”

She nodded and continued to move the probe around. “Hmm, they are fast-growing babes.” She pointed to the screen at two tiny dots.

“Is that them?” Jemma asked as Angela nodded. She smiled and looked at me, and turned away. For a moment, everything was forgotten as I looked at the dots. I felt my pride swell as I just stared at them.

“They appear older than they are, but being of alpha and royal b***d, they will grow faster than other wolves.” Angela sighed. “I’d say they are about a week and a half along.”

Jemma and I sighed with relief. “I knew they were yours,” She said to me.

“Can you write that up in a report for the elders, please?”

“Yes,” Angela paused the image and printed it out before turning it off. “I’ll have that for you by the end of the day.” She stood up. “Jemma should be free to go.”

“Thanks, Ange.” I patted her on the back as she walked out of the room. Jemma’s smile fell as I looked down at her. “Let’s go,” I held out my hand to her. She clasped it, and we went back to the palace. After we walked into our office, she sat down on the couches. “Why did you think it was alright to go against my order?”

She looked at the ground while playing with her hands. She looked more little girl than the queen of the werewolves right now. “I-I,” she trailed off. “Casper sounded desperate to see his father. He wanted closure.”

I ran my hand through my hair and sat on the opposite couch. “Jemma, I gave that order because Blake Reynolds was dangerous, even locked up. He had gone feral.”

“Actually, as soon as Maria left the room, he turned back into his human form and resumed talking normally.”

“Either way, you shouldn’t have gone against me.”

“You had no right keeping Casper from seeing his father,” She looked me in the eyes.

“I had every right. I am the king, and my word is final,” I growled at her.

She stood up, “And I am the queen. My word is as good as your, is it not?”

“It is but-“

She folded her arms, “So, you don’t actually want me to use my power? If I think a decision you make is wrong, am I not allowed to counter that decision. I’m sorry I got hurt. That was my bad. But Casper got closure. I didn’t know he would end up slitting his father’s throat. But I stand by what I did.”

My defiant queen glared me down, “Please if you feel the need to go against my orders and decisions, tell me first.”

“Whatever,” She turned and started walking out of the office.

“Jemma! Where are you going?”

“I’m starving.” She stated and pulled the door open and walked out.

Sighing, I followed her out of the office. It was like a repeat of last week. “Jemma!”

“I am going to get lunch and cool down. Alright?” She turned her gaze on me.

I nodded, “Fine, I’ll see you later.” I squeezed her arm and kissed the top of her head. She seemed to calm down a bit before turning heel and walking away from me.

My Beta Deke approached me as Jemma stormed by him. “Well, that one was quieter than the last one.”

I glared at him, “What do you want?”

He shrugged. “I was hungry and wondered if you wanted to get lunch with me.”

I smirked, “Are you asking me out on a lunch date, Deke?”

He shrugged. “Why not?

“Sure, Jemma, and I need a little time to cool off. I’ll have Bruce bring the limo around.”

“Oh boy.” Deke snickered.

‘Bruce, can you bring the limo to the front,’ I mind-linked my driver. “Where should we go, Cinderella?” I asked my best friend.

“Nothing fancy.” He replied as we walked out the front door. Bruce was already in the front, leaning against the limo. “Damn, that dude is fast.”

I laughed as Bruce opened the door, “Why do you think I have kept him around so long?” I smiled at the driver as we slid into the vehicle. Bruce was in his seat in a flash.

“Where to your, majesty?” I glanced at Deke. “Hmm, how about Five Guys?” Some big a*s burgers sounded good to me. My beta nodded, and I relayed that to Bruce, and we were driving away from the palace. It felt nice just to spend some time with Deke. We rarely had moments like this since I became king. We arrived at the restaurant and smiled at gawking citizens. It was big news when the king and the royal beta showed up at a restaurant. We walked in, and the line parted to allow us to get up front. “No, everyone, order your food. We will wait in line with the rest of you.” I said as people hesitantly got back into line. A she-wolf with a small pup stood in front of us. The pup looked up at me and smiled. I returned the smile. “Hello, pup.”

He became shy and buried his little face into his mother’s side. He whimpered as his mother looked down at him. “Don’t bother the king, Dustin.”

“He is no bother, ma’am,” I said to her. I knelt down to the pup’s level, and he looked me over. I held out a hand to the pup. “Hi Dustin, I am Cassius.”

With hesitation, Dustin grabbed my hand. “Hi.” He muttered out.

I laughed, “Are you shy?” He shook his head, “I was shy too when I was your age. It’s alright to be shy.”

The pup smiled and pulled away from his mother, “I’m four.” He held up his little fingers.

“Big boy, are you going to eat a big burger?”

He giggled, “The biggest one.”

I ruffled his brown hair. “Growing pups need all the meat they can get.” He giggled and launched himself into my chest.

“Dustin,” His mother barked at him.

“It’s alright, ma’am.” The pup hugged me, and I patted his back. “We better get moving. People behind us want food.” I rose to my height, and the pup held onto my hand.

“Man, you got this dad thing down already,” Deke leaned into me.

The mother ordered her food for her and her pup and then looked alarmed when it appeared she didn’t have enough money. She started to tell the cashier to take food off. I stepped forward. “I got this-.”

She looked at me with tears in her eyes, “Anne. You don’t have to do that, your majesty.”

“No, I insist.” I looked at the cashier. “I’ll pay for her food,” I stated as Deke and I gave the cashier our own order.

“Thank you, King Cassius, I was short on my pay this week, and I just wanted to treat my son.” She sobbed.

I smiled at her. “Where do you work?”

“I-I’m a waitress at another restaurant, and I had to take a day off for my father’s funeral. So I was short.” She explained.

“I’m sorry to hear about your father,” I gave her a sympathetic look. “Do you need help with expenses? You know we help with that.”

She shrugged. “I hate to ask for handouts.”

We were standing by the soda machine, getting our drinks. “Deke, do you have a pen?” My beta handed me a pen, and I wrote a number on the back of my receipt and handed it to the she-wolf. “Here, call this number. They may be able to help you out. Tell them I sent you.”

She took the paper with hesitation as our number was called out. Deke and I grabbed the food and walked towards some tables in the back. Anne and her pup sat beside us.

We chatted some more as Dustin sat on my lap. He kept stealing my french fries. “Dustin!” His mother chastised him.

I laughed. “You must love fries, huh Dustin?”

The pup looked up at me and grinned as he stole another fry.

“You are really good with pups, your majesty,” Anne said to me.

“He’s practicing for when he has his own,” Deke chimed in.

She smiled at me, “I heard you and the queen were expecting. Well, in my opinion, I think you will be an excellent father.”

“Thank you, Anne.” We finished up our meal and walked out of the restaurant with Anne and Dustin. “Goodbye, Dustin. I enjoyed eating lunch with you and your mom. You are a very good pup.”

Dustin looked up at me. “Bye, Cassius.” He waved at me.

“Thank you, your majesty.” Anne bowed to me.

“Have a good day,” I replied to her as they walked towards a bus stop. I turned to Deke. “Sorry.”

He shrugged. “No problem. You can’t help being Mr. Softie.” He snickered as we got into the limo. We headed back to the palace.

“Am I too soft?”

Deke shook his head. “I don’t think you are. Anyone who thinks so hasn’t seen you ripping heads off of alphas.” He snorted.

“I see pups, and I guess I turn to mush.”

“That you do.” Deke laughed.

The limo arrived back at the palace. We got out and headed towards my office. I heard giggling as we entered. Jemma was sitting at her desk with Nick. They were talking to someone via video chat. I assumed it was Nick’s father they were talking to. She looked up at me and smiled.

I smiled back at her. I was no longer angry with her. Deke patted my shoulder. “I have to get back to work. I’ll see you later, Cass.”

“Bye, Deke.” I sat in my seat behind my desk.

“Sure, Mark and Liz can pick up Nicky tomorrow,” Jemma said to Jeremy. I looked over at the screen. The other male made a slight face at me. I tried not to growl at him as his son was right there.

“Good,” Jeremy replied to her. “They really miss him. And of course, I miss you, Nick.” He smiled at his son. “I have to go now, buddy, but Nana and Papa will take you to the carnival tomorrow. How does that sound?”

The pup squealed happily. “Do I get to go on rides?”

“Of course.” Jeremy laughed. “All of the rides you want.” He looked at Jemma. “I’ll see you both in about a week, okay? I mean, if he’ll let you.” Jeremy shifted his gaze to me.

Jemma looked back at me. “You don’t have a problem with us hanging out with Jeremy, do you, Cass?” She asked me. ‘Only for the sake of Nicky,’ She added via mind link.

“I don’t have a problem with it,” I responded while looking Jeremy in the eyes.

“Okay then. I’ll see you then. Goodbye Nick. Be good for Mommy.” Jeremy smiled before the video chat turned off.

Jemma turned to me. “Nicky’s grandparents are going to pick him up tomorrow to go to the beach carnival.”

I nodded and smiled at my stepson, “Oh, a carnival. Aren’t you lucky? I wish I could go to a carnival.”

“I love the big slide,” Nick stated to me.

“I love big slides, too.”

Jemma stood up with Nick and walked him over to the couches. She set him down. “Nicky, stay here and watch your shows while Cassius and I keep working.” She walked over to her desk and picked up a tablet. She turned it on and set it in front of the pup. He happily settled on the floor as she walked back to her desk. “There were a few emails that came in while we were talking to Jeremy.”

“Well, then let’s tackle them.” I smiled at her as we got to work. It was almost an hour later when we finished. Nick had been well behaved the whole time. I stretched as I stood up. “Let’s all take a break. How about we go play outside?”

Nick looked up from his tablet as I walked over to him. “Can we play tag?”

I nodded. “Of course.” I picked him up as I took Jemma’s hand. We walked out of the office and then outside. We played tag with Nick for a half-hour before Jemma got too tired. It was getting close to the time we agreed to meet with Elder Reed.

We would have dinner in the small dining room with the elder while he spoke to Jemma about her family history. We took Nicky upstairs, and I set him in his room. My mother agreed to watch him while we had dinner with Elder Reed so Jemma could learn about her family history.
