The Alpha King's Rebellious Queen -
The Alpha King’s Rebellious Queen Chapter 60
Jemma’s POV
‘IAIN!’ I cried as Leonora and I charged towards him just as he was about to fall. Claws dug into the ground as the I leaped forward just barely catching his leg in my jaws. We pulled him back from the cliff as he struggled to get free from my jaws.
“Let me go,” He yelled and turned his grief-stricken blue eyes on me.
‘No, I am never letting you go,’ I cried through our link as I dropped him from my jaws and shifted back into human form. I grabbed him in my arms. “What the hell, Iain?”
He started sobbing and we fell to the ground. I just held him as he let it all out. “She rejected me,” He cried as I rocked him. Neither of us cared that we were both naked. It wasn’t the first time we had ever seen each other naked. “She rejected me,” He kept repeating.
“I know. I am so sorry. But jumping off a cliff isn’t the answer,” I stroked his arm. Losing my twin would have been as painful as losing a mate. We are bonded much like mates are. “You are strong, Iain. You will get through this.”
“Why did she have to reject me? She thought I wouldn’t want her because she can’t carry pups to term. I would have accepted her. I told her that Zephyr Moon has an heir. She got mad and rejected me,” He explained through his sobs.
“What do mean there is an heir?” I asked him.
“Nick, he is the heir. He has alpha b***d. He will be my heir,” Iain replied. “Delilah and I could have adopted or something. But she just rejected me.”
“And you accepted the rejection?”
He nodded. “I wasn’t going to force her to stay.”
“Oh, Iain.” I just held my twin. We sat on the cool wet grass for several minutes.
‘Jemma,’ Cassius’s voice came through the mind link, ‘Is everything alright?’
‘Yes,’ I replied to him. ‘Sorry to worry you, Cass. I just needed to get to my brother. We are fine now. We will be home soon.’
‘Okay love,’ He responded.
Iain and I were sitting next to each other just looking out at the forest. Sometimes all we needed was each other’s silence. “You can stay in one of the rooms on our floor,” I said to my brother. “You don’t have to stay in the dorm.”
“I am going to go home tomorrow,” He stated, “I know Dad will be upset at me for skipping out on the rest of alpha classes but I just want to go home.”
“Dad will understand,” I told my brother. We sat in silence for a bit longer as the sun began to set. My stomach rumbled. “Should we head back to the palace now? We can have dinner in mine and Cass’s room and watch movies.”
He shrugged, “I guess.”
I stood up and stiffened when I caught the foul stench of rogues on the air. “Iain,” I whispered to him. He was on his feet on high alert as rogues came out of the thick tree line. I took one look at him and we both shifted back into our wolves. His black wolf lunged at the rogues and began fighting them. ‘Cassius, rogues!’ I shouted to my mate through the mind link.
‘Where are you?’ He replied quickly.
‘I don’t know,’ I flashed a mental image to him before springing into action to fight the rogues. Iain had already killed two as one launched at me.
‘We are coming Jemma,’ Cassius growled through our link.
A rogue jumped on my back knocking us to the ground. I snapped my jaws and caught its leg pulling it off of me. I jumped on top grasping its filthy neck and snapping it. A loud howl thundered through the trees as the royal guard charged into action. A moment later Enoch ran over to me and took a protective stance in front of me as he dispatched another rogue. I felt dizzy and fatigued. Shifting while pregnant was dangerous. Even this early and it was taking its toll. My brother and mate and the royal guard were able to kill the rest of the rogues. I shifted back into human form as I felt fatigued and dizzy. I collapsed to the ground as everything was spinning. My brother and mate both turned to me as they shifted back to human.
“Jemma?” I heard Cassius say to me as I saw stars.
“Jemma!” I heard Iain cry out as everything went black.
I heard nothing. Felt nothing. Saw only darkness. It was like I was dead but not really. Then I felt cold. I heard noises and opened my eyes to replace myself in the dirt cell. My arms were chained to the wall with silver. I could hear my skin sizzling as it burned. Then the sinister laugh echoed as his face walked into the light. It was Felix. He squatted in front of me. “Hello, your majesty. Welcome back to hell,” He cackled as he grabbed my chin. You may think this is a dream but it’s not. This will be your reality shortly as I kill those whelps in your belly to secure my place on the throne. Then after I kill Cassius you can be with your bastard child and the man who sired him. Felix threw back his head and laughed as everything went black again.
The sounds of beeping brought me back to reality. I could hear Cassius almost yelling at someone as I opened my eyes. He was standing beside me as I peered into Angela’s eyes. “Cass, she is waking up,” The doctor said to him.
Her face was replaced by Cassius’s. “Jemma,” He looked down at me with a tear-streaked face.
I tried sitting up on the bed and felt a wave of dizziness and was held by Cassius’s hand. “Whoa, don’t try to move,” He said to me.
“W-what happened?” I mumbled.
Cassius sat beside the bed on a chair. I glanced at him and saw Iain and Angela also in the room.
“You fainted in the woods,” Cassius explained.
“I think you may have over-exerted yourself,” Angela added. “Your brother says you found him in wolf form and then you fought rogues. Which normally it wouldn’t have affected you but your pregnancy makes normal things harder.”
I sighed heavily. “So, what you are saying is-“
“No more shifting,” Angela finished my sentence. “You should be fine though.”
“The babies?”
“They are fine too.” Angela patted Cassius’s shoulder, “I will be keeping you overnight, though. I told Cassius that Maria and I can watch your son.”
“Oh thank you, Angela.” I smiled weakly at the doctor. She was fast becoming a good friend of mine. I lay my head back on the bed as she walked out of the room. “I’m sorry, Cassius. I-I,” I started crying.
“I’m not mad, Jemma. I know you went to help your brother. There was no way you could have known about the rogues,” He clasped my hand and held it tight.
“Did you kill all of them?” I asked with a slight smile.
“Not all of them, we kept a couple of them alive,” He returned my smile.
I sighed heavily and placed my hand on my belly and looked over at my brother. “You aren’t going to try jumping off a cliff again, are you?”
He sat on another chair and pulled it to the bed. “No Jemma, I am sorry. Leopold was howling so loud at the loss of his pup and mate. I just needed to quiet the noise.”
“So you thought jumping off a f*****g cliff was the answer?” I almost yelled at him.
He took a deep breath. “I said I’m sorry, Jemma.”
“I know Iain. But you know I would have felt that?”
Cassius shifted in his seat, “What do you mean you would have felt it?” He asked me while looking between Iain and me.
“The bond between twins is as strong as the mate bond, Cass. If he would have died I would have felt it. Part of my soul would have died and it could have killed me too.”
With a growl, Cassius had Iain pinned to a wall by the neck in a flash. “Cassius,” I yelled at my mate.
“You could have killed Jemma with your idiotic actions?” He growled at my brother.
Iain struggled to get out of the king’s grip. “I’m sorry,” He gasped for breath as Cassius tightened his hold on Iain’s neck. I gasped as it became harder to breathe.
“Cassius,” I managed to squeak out. “I feel what Iain is feeling right now.” I gasped.
Cassius released Iain from his grip and turned to me as I coughed trying to catch my breath. He was next to me rubbing my back. “Sorry love. It was a reaction upon hearing you could have died, had he died.”
I sighed. “I think we all need to just chill. Okay.”
“I agree,” Cassius sat on the bed and then pulled me on top of him and held me tight. “Iain will you be okay tonight?”
My brother nodded, “I think so.”
“No, I need you to know so. I can’t have you worrying my mate by doing anything stupid again. If anything happens to her it would destroy me and this kingdom,” Cassius growled at my brother. “She is carrying our future. You could have ruined everything.”
“Cassius,” I growled at my mate as my brother hung his head.
“No Jemma, he needs to know what he could have done.”
“He was feeling grief from losing his pup and mate,” I explained to my mate.
“That’s no excuse, Jemma.”
I sighed and looked at my brother, “Iain tell Cassius that you will be okay tonight. Please.”
“But I’m not okay, Jemma.” My brother sighed and leaned against a wall. “I am not okay. I feel like s**t. I lost my pup and then my mate rejected me. Then I almost killed my sister.” He buried his head in his hands and slid down the wall.
I crawled off of Cassius despite his protests and walked over to my brother and sat beside him. I had him in my arms again as he sobbed. “You are strong, Iain. I will help you get through this.” I leaned against my brother. “I love you, Iain.” I looked over at Cassius.
“I’m sorry, I got mad at you Iain,” Cassius said to my brother.
Iain looked up at my mate. “It’s alright, I understand.” I wiped the tears off his face as I started to feel tired again. The room spun as I felt dizzy.
“Jemma, you need to rest,” Iain said to me. “I promise I will be okay tonight.”
I released my brother as Cassius picked me up and placed me on the bed. He pulled the sheet over my body. “Jemma, please just relax. I will have someone watch over Iain so you can rest.”
“I don’t need a babysitter, Cass.” My brother snarled at my mate.
“I can’t have you trying something stupid again,” Cassius returned the snarl.
“Will you both just stop!” I demanded. “I can feel anger from both of you. Leonora cannot keep up. She needs to heal me to keep the babies safe.”
Cassius sighed. “Okay, how about I have my dad stay with you tonight? You can stay in our room.”
Iain wrinkled his nose. “Um, that would be awkward.”
“I’ll have an omega change the sheets on the bed. Okay? Just go to our room and I’ll send my dad. Please, for Jemma.” Cassius pleaded with my brother.
“Fine,” Iain looked at me. “For Jemma.” He walked over and hugged me. “I’m sorry Jemma.”
“I’m here for you Iain,” I whispered in his ear. “Just relax in our room. You can sleep on the couch if you want. It’s pretty comfortable.”
He chuckled, “Thank you, sis. I love you.”
“I love you too, Iain,” I said as he released me.
“Goodnight,” He smiled weakly as he left the hospital room.
Cassius kicked off his shoes and took off his shirt and then crawled into the bed. He pulled me to his chest and buried his face in my neck and inhaled. I could feel his body relaxing. “I almost lost you tonight.” I could sense the sorrow in his voice.
“But you didn’t.” I gripped his arm as my chest was flush against his back. The bed was almost too small for the both of us but I needed my mate’s touch to help my body recover from the exertion of tonight. Leonora needed Enoch to help her heal me and to keep the pups safe. “I am sorry. So sorry,” I felt tears start to fall down my cheeks.
“Please don’t cry, love. You did nothing wrong. Your twin needed you. I didn’t realize the bond between twins was so strong.” He placed his hand on my belly, “I’m glad these two have such a strong and caring mother that will help them understand their bond to each other.”
I placed my hand over his, “And they’ll have the bestest Daddy to help them with everything else.” I turned my head to look him in the eyes. Those sparkling blue eyes made my heart melt. He placed a gentle k**s on my lips.
“I thank the goddess every day that I have you as my mate,” He smiled at me while placing another k**s on my lips. I snuggled into him as he rested his chin on the top of my head. My eyes grew heavy as my mind was catching up with my tired body. My eyes closed and I fell into a dreamless sleep.
