The Alpha’s Feisty Mate -
Chapter 45: No more patrol
Isabella POV
After Alpha Drake left my room, to interrogate the rogue, I tried to sleep but I couldn’t. I laid in bed with so many emotions and thoughts.
I was still really hurt by Alpha Drake, I knew he wouldn’t just leave it alone though, so I decided the next time he tried to explain himself, I would let him.
One things for sure, I will never let anyone into my heart again. I would prefer to live a life alone then feel this kind of hurt and vulnerability.
After a few hours of just laying there deep in thought, I decided to get up and get ready for the day.
I stripped my pyjamas off but left the bandage on my stomach to protect my wound, I hoped in the shower and exhaled, as the warm water caressed my body. It felt so good and it temporarily eased my mind.
Once I was done, I got out of the shower and dried myself off with a towel. I changed my now wet bandage with a fresh one and got dressed in a pair of dark blue ripped jeans and a loose black crop top.
I tied my hair back in a messy bun and slipped on my runners before leaving my room.
I made my way down to Alpha Drake’s office. I really wanted a report on how the interrogation went.
I got to his office door and knocked. My heart instantly started to beat faster at the thought of seeing him.
“Come in” I heard.
I took a deep breath before opening the door. Alpha Drake was seated at his desk and his eyes where on mine.
“Have a seat, Isabella.” He offered and I took a seat across from him and waited to hear what he had to say.
“We did the interrogation this morning, the rogue told us that there’s a bounty for your successfully kidnapping.” Drake said in a serious voice.
I mean, I wasn’t that surprised, I kinda expect that to be the case. It still irritated me that this Rogue Alpha was going to such lengths to get his hands on me. Who does he think he is?
“Figured.” Is all I replied, with irritation in my voice.
“I’m sorry Isabella, but you won’t be patrolling anymore. Not until the threat against you is neutralized and you can communicate in wolf form through mind-link.” He said sternly.
I expect it and decided it wasn’t a battle I wanted to have right now, so I didn’t argue.
“That’s fine, I plan on returning to my old pack once the Rogue Alpha is no longer a threat.” I said with irritation in my voice.
“Isabella, please let me explained what happens.” He said softly with desperation in his eyes.
“Go for it Alpha. Either way, it won’t change anything, but if it will make you feel better, then go ahead.” I told him. His eyes held so many emotions, but hurt was the dominant one.
He explained to me what actually happened between Jill and him. I didn’t sense any lies in his story and to be completely honest, I believe him. His eyes were so sincere.
My heart skipped a beat knowing he didn’t sleep with Jill, it made me feel a little better, but still, the whole experience opened my eyes. He’s not my mate, we could never be together. What happens when he does replace his mate? I will just get hurt all over again and I won’t let that happen.
‘He looks so sad, we should comfort him.’ Bri said in my head with her own sad voice.
‘No, this weird fascination with him needs to end.’ I replied sharply. She grumbled but didn’t push me further.
“I believe you Alpha.” I said offering him a small smile, before continuing. “ It doesn’t change anything though, Alpha. Whatever it was that was happening between us, needs to end. If I’m going to be staying here until we take care of the Rogue Alpha, I want you to treat me like you treat the rest of your pack, strictly professional. I will do the same with you.” I spoke the words firmly. He looked sad and disappointed, but it’s for the best.
“Isabella, please don’t shut me out.” He replied, begging me with his eyes.
“If you can’t do what I’m asking of you, I won’t stay, I need to know you’ll respect my wishes.” I again said the words firmly so he wouldn’t argue.
“Ok, Isabella. Whatever you need, I’ll do it.” He said while sounding defeated.
“If I can’t do patrol, you need to assign me something else. I won’t just sit around all day.” I said.
“You can help with training. I can put you in charge of the freshly shifted teenagers. You will have full control over their training problem. Would that interest you?” He asked hopeful. I couldn’t help the smile that formed on my lips. That’s exactly what I would be good at.
“Yes Alpha, thank you. I think that’s a perfect job for my skill set.” I said truthfully.
“Good it’s settle then. They still attended high school, so their training starts after school at 3:00pm every day. They have the weekends off.” He said while nodding his head.
“Great, maybe Clair could help me, we could do it together?” I asked, hopeful.
“Of course, that’s a great idea. She still hasn’t been assigned a job.” He told me.
“Ok, if that’s all Alpha, I’ll go replace her and see if she’s interested.” I said with excitement in my voice.
“That’s everything Isabella.” Alpha Drake said, offering me a small smile that didn’t reach his eyes.
I could see the disappointment in his face. This is for the best thought, for both of us.
I got up and left his office, feeling excited that he assigned me a real meaningful job. Training the newly shifted wolves is important, not just so they can protect themselves, but it’s also the foundation for them to become strong warriors as they grow up.
This will be a perfect distraction for me. I won’t have time to think about or miss Alpha Drake.

Alpha Drake POV
I was relieved when Isabella said she believed me when it came to the incident with Jill, but my heart broke when she told me she wanted a strictly professional relationship. It was tearing me up inside.
Devon wasn’t taking it well and blamed me for what happened. I don’t blame him. It’s all my fault.
I wanted to tell her right there and then that she was my mate, but I think that would make matters worse at this point.
I should of told her right of the bat, it was a mistake keeping it from her, now I’m going to have to wait till her birthday and hopefully she will hear me out, once more, when she knows the truth. I’m nervous though, she’s stubborn and I know this Jill incident hurt her, knowing how independent Isabella is, she’s going to do everything she can to avoid being hurt again, getting her to let me back into her heart is going to be a challenge. I’ll have to work for it. My thought were interrupted by a knock at the door.
“Come in.” I said.
Erik and Jared walked in. They both took a seat across form me with serious faces.
“Have you talked to Isabella yet?” Erik asked concerned.
“Yes she just left. She finally let me explain what happened with Jill and she thankfully believed me.” I said offering him a small smile.
“Well that’s good news. Now you can move forward and hopefully stop the child’s play.” Erik said excitedly.
“Well, it’s not that simple. She wants us to have a strictly professional relationship and I had to agree with her or she said she would leave.” I told him with sadness in my voice.
“Boss, why not just tell her she’s your mate?” Jared asked confused.
“Because it’s too late for that, I should of done it right off the bat, if I told her now, I think it would make it worse, she would question my motives for not telling her.” I said while deep in thought.
“Don’t you think she’s going to be mad anyway on her birthday?” Erik questioned.
“I do, however I’m hoping that when the mate bond kicks in, she will be more susceptible in hearing me out. I plan on telling her that part of the reason why I waited to tell her, is because I wanted her to feel the mate bond herself and come to the realization on her own.” I said.
“I guess that makes sense. I sure hope you two work it out. You guys are the perfect match. Plus, you would be a power couple for this pack and it would only make us stronger.” Jared said offering me a small smile.
“We will, I won’t let her walk away from me.” I said with determination before continuing. “I told her today she won’t be going on anymore patrol shifts.”
“How did she take that?” Erik asked with concern.
“Honestly I think she was expecting it after last nights events, she didn’t even argue with me. I however softened the blow by assigning her as the head coach for the newly shifted wolves. She seemed legitimately excited about that.” I told them with a smile.
It felt good making her happy. I feel like we’ve had a rough start and this was truly the first time that I got a real smile out of her.
“Smart, Isabella is fierce warrior, she deserves the respect. I’m glad your putting her skills to good use.” Erik said while nodding his head.
“Well boss, if there’s anything we can do to help, let us know. We want to see you happy. Plus, Isabella is going to be an amazing Luna for this pack.” Jared said and I couldn’t help but agree. She’s strong and I can see the respect my pack members have for her.
“On a different topic, any thought on who would be handing out private pack information to the Rogue Alpha?” I asked with my voice turning serious.
“No idea.” They both said in unison, with concerned looks.
“Well keep your eyes and ears open, we need to replace the snake and shut that down before it causes any serious problems.” I told them with a frown.
“We will replace out who it is Alpha, they will mess up soon enough.” Erik said with determination.
Once we were done talking business, they left my office, leaving me alone once again with my thoughts.
I am going to treat Isabella like the Queen she is. I’ll win her heart back, mark my words.
