“So, everything looks good there is no scarring where the stab wound was, I’ll tell you miss Nelson you had us all at the clinic afraid for you, that blade barely missed your heart which I can only assume was the target you were one lucky lady.” The Doc said, absentmindedly, which had Shawna burst out laughing. “Doc, luck would have been not being stabbed by my baby daddy wife/mate while my baby daddy protected her from me. But I guess if me not dying is lucky then let’s all celebrate.” Shawna said, as she removed her hand from Shadow’s he looked like he wanted to say something but a look from her cousin’s told him to just let it go. So now he looking like someone kicked his puppy. The doc clearing his throat to break the awkward moment. “Uh..um how about we check on the pup. I know we haven’t even checked you yet. But the girls said that you took a test, and when you came in although we tried to monitor you and the baby but with everything happening we didn’t get a chance to check on him or her. ” The doc said. “Yes I had just taking the test and was going to talk to my cousins because I thought Shadow was sleeping but when I went to Lahni’s room, and it was empty, so I automatically knew something was up because Lahni isn’t missing not one nap or bedtime. That is when I saw…. That someone was trying to take the twins, so I ran out the door after her and I fought until my cousins came. I tried my best to make sure she didn’t punch or kick me in the stomach, but I can’t be sure that I dodged all of them, and this point I may not even be pregnant anymore especially after what happened while I was in a coma.” Shawna said as she let the tears fall freely her shoulders shaking.

Her family immediately came to comfort her. Shadow looked devastated at her words at the possibility that she has lost their baby and it would be his fault. “How about we go to the living room where I have an ultrasound machine set up next to the couch so we can have a look.” The doc said as they all gathered in the living room. Everyone was nervous about what they may or may not see. “So, I need you to lift your shirt for me.” The doc said and Shadow growled. The doc held his hands up immediately in mock surrender. “Sorry, commander I didn’t know I need her to lift her shirt so we can do the ultrasound. Shadow nodded and Shawna rolled her eyes but said nothing. The doc squirted the blue gel on her stomach and began to move the doppler around there was complete silence on in the room everyone holding their breaths prayer as the doc continued moving across Shawna’s belly she began to let the tears fall, Shadow immediately grabbed her hand the doc was starting to look sad at not being able to detect anything.

“Please understand that if we don’t see anything it could be that it is too early to see it via ultrasound so please don’t get disc….” Before he could finish the sentence the sound of a beating heart come up loud and clear and everyone cried happy tears Shawna reached out and hugged, kissed, and leaned their foreheads together as they both cried. “Well, I’ll be the little one was hiding from us. He’s already causing troub…..” The doc got really quiet. Which caused everyone to tense up. “What is it Doc? What’s going on?” Shadow asked nervously. “Uh.. I .. I don’t know exactly.” The doc said. “Well, you need to figure it out doc, and tell us something.” Lynn said coming closer to look at the picture on the screen like she knows what she’s looking for. “I’ll need to run some test before I can say anything definitely.” The doc said as he took pictures of the baby. “When will we be able to tell if it’s a boy or a girl.” Mina asked. “From the measurements you are about 8 weeks. So next month we should be able to tell you what you’re having.” The doc said as he put up the equipment. The alpha and Beta came downstairs as the doc was leaving.

“How did everything go down here?” The alpha asked Ji’lahni as he pulled her to him for a k**s. “Everything is great. The doc wants to finish running test, but we heard the heartbeat, and it is strong.” Ji’lahni answered. “That’s wonderful news congrats Shadow.” The alpha said patting Shadow on the back. He mumbled a thanks still looking at Shawna who had straighten her clothes and moved away from Shadow. “Well, we are going to take a quick shower and head over to the pack house to talk to your mother. Ji’lahni said and went upstairs to get ready. Shawna had already showered so she stayed downstairs. “Well, I’m going to head into the kitchen to make some sandwiches for me and my cousin would yall like me to make some for yall as well I don’t know how long we will be, so I want to make sure we have something to eat.” Shawna said getting up heading to the kitchen after the men nodded wanting her to make them a sandwich as well. “This is the perfect time to try and talk to her.” Montego said, nodding in the direction of the kitchen. “What do I say?” Shadow said getting up pacing. “How about I’m sorry, we’ve all been where you are unfortunately.” The alpha said, looking ashamed he finally realized all the mistakes he has made since he met his other half mate. Shadow nodded and walked into the loin’s den. He just hoped that the loin don’t rip his head off time he walk in.

Shadow’s POV:

Walking into the kitchen Shaw has her back to me facing the counter. I stood and stare at her for a moment. I missed her smile she was always the quiet supportive one of the group she didn’t judge she was just there to listen and always made her cousins feel loved no matter the reason she was their light. But it seems as though her light has somehow dimmed or has been drained out of her and it was all my fault. I brought darkness into her life, and it has consumed the light that is her. “So, since we’re no longer together you’re going back to the silent dude who looked like he wanted to kill everyone.” Shawna asked and that made him smile remembering how she claimed she cured him with her cookies. “I thought you said you cured me.” I said walking further into the kitchen. “Well, I can admit when I’m wrong.” She said sitting at the table with a tray of meats and veggies for the sandwiches.

I went and washed my hands before sitting next to her grabbing brand to make sandwiches. “You weren’t wrong you did cure me you brought me back from the darkness that I walked in every day. I never thought that I could love anyone other then my mate. But I was wrong.” I said looking at her intently. You weren’t wrong I shouldn’t have pushed you into anything with me. You were obviously still mourning your wife or mate, or whatever you wanna call it, you said that sometimes you still felt the bond like she was still alive. Well, you weren’t wrong she was still alive, so the darkness you felt when you thought she was dead is gone. She’s back, and after you save and fix her, you will be able to pick up where you left off.” She said, casually like it was nothing like we meant nothing. “How can you say that, like we meant nothing? Why are you so quick to give up on us on me?” I said grabbing her hand, she immediately snatched her hands away breathing hard now.

“Why? Are you serious? You act as though I wasn’t there with you when you saw that it was Scarlett. I saw your eyes Shadow. I saw how you looked at her I saw exactly when that mates bond kicked back in. Do you know I had to yell your name before you were able to tear your eyes away from her. I saw the look you gave me when you looked at me. It was the look of sadness and sorrow because you had, and Rane had already made a choice and as we both know wolves can’t fight the mates bond. And while you were your eyes were breaking my heart your wife was trying to put her blade in my heart. So, none of this s**t is easy for me. I have a baby that I will have to basically raise on my own. While the man I love will be happy creating a family with his mate the same woman who tried to kill me.

This s**t isn’t far from easy, but I will be a fool to hope that you will be able to fight the mates bond. Twice you have come face to face with her and me and each time you were trying to save her and not me. The first time you saved her body from me the second time you were trying to save her mind or her soul hoping that she would somehow have a breakthrough while me on the other hand was crawling trying not to be kidnapped or killed by the same person who put me in the situation both times. So, I’m sorry if my faith in you is at an all-time low. I have to put myself and our child first because as long as your mate is still out there broken she is your top priority. I’m just giving you the freedom to follow your heart without guilt and once we get the twins, poppa Toni, and your mate back, I will be going to Uncle Felix’s pack, so you wont feel any guilt or obligations when it comes to me because I won’t be here.” She said, getting up walking out of the kitchen and out of my life and took my heart with her.
