The Blacklisted Rogue -
Chapter 19
Sally
POV
My lungs were burning and my heart pounded in my chest when we raced down the street. My eyes darted around trying to replace a way for us to hide. There was no way we could outrun him forever. Two starving Rogues against a strong Beta. I didn't like our odds. We turned right and ran along another street, still zigzagging between people on the sidewalk. Cars honked at us when we crossed a street.
I glanced over my shoulder and saw Beta Rafe running behind us. My heart sank when I realized that he was catching up.
Elijah pulled me into an alley and entered the parking lot of a mall. We ran in between the cars and I caught a glimpse of something in the corner of my eye. I turned my head and saw two people running along the edge of the parking lot. They were trying to cut us off.
I opened my mouth to warn Elijah, but he came to a halt and pulled me to himself. Two people were running in front of us and I realized that we were surrounded.
"I won't let them hurt you." Elijah whispered in my hair.
I grabbed a hold of his jacket and whimpered, the fear making me feel nauseous.
"Bad, bad girl." I heard someone call out behind me.
We turned around and saw Beta Rafe standing there sneering at us.
Elijah pushed me gently behind himself.
"Let her go, Rafe." He shouted.
Beta Rafe laughed, the sound sent shivers down my spine.
"I don't think so, Ampel." He smirked. "You see, you are protecting a murderer there. She's not as innocent as you'd think. I have to admit, she almost fooled me too."
I wrapped my shaking arms tighter around Elijah's waist, silently sending a prayer to the Moon Goddess to get us out of this situation unharmed.
"Let her go." Elijah repeated.
Beta Rafe's smirk widened to an amused grin.
"But you don't care about that. How is that, Ampel?"
Elijah tensed further.
"Could it be that our weakling for a Gamma has been mated to a filthy murderess?"
The frightened looks on our faces must have spoken volumes, because the warriors surrounding us from all sides started to laugh.
A low growl rumbled in Elijah's chest and I put my hand on his arm to calm him down.
Beta Rafe took a few steps forward, making us back away.
"Let me spill it out for you, Ampel. Alpha wants the girl. He didn't get to finish what he started with her. Come with us quietly and you can come back to the pack as the useless Omega you were before. Put up a fight, and you'll have to watch Alpha have his way with her before you are executed in front of her. Do you understand?"
Elijah growled and clenched his fists.
"I don't understand. What does Alpha Richard want with me?"
The question slipped out of me before I registered it.
"Your reputation precedes you, Sally Freeman. Alpha thinks that you would be a great luna to our pack."
I froze and stared at him, my mind unable to understand what he was saying.
Alpha Richard wants me to be his Luna?
The thought made me want to vomit, but before I could say anything another thought crossed my mind. What would happen to us if I said no?
Maybe it was too late to save myself, but what if I could save Elijah?
I had to save him. He put himself through enough just to help me. This time it was my turn to do the same.
I stepped in front of Elijah and faced Beta Rafe.
"If I agree, will you let Elijah go unharmed?"
"NO!" Elijah roared.
He pulled me into a tight hug.
"I know what you're trying to do. Please don't. I can't live without you." He whimpered in my hair.
The sound of Beta Rafe laughing made us both flinch.
"Don't be so selfish, Ampel. Alpha has the power to make her a queen. What do you have to offer her? Why don't you be a good little mate and hand her over. You can walk away from this."
Beta Rafe took a few more steps and reached out his hand.
With trembling hands, I gently cupped Elijah's cheeks and made him look into my eyes.
"Elijah." I cried. "You have to get out of here. Go to the Blue Eclipse Pack. My brother George lives there. He can help you. You're not blacklisted so they won't hurt you."
I tried my best to keep my voice calm, despite my shaking hands.
Elijah shook his head and ran his fingers through my hair.
"Never." He whispered. "If you are going back there, so will I."
I felt frustration boil inside me. Could this amazing man be selfish just this once and get out of here?!
"Come on! We don't have all day!" Beta Rafe snapped.
་་།
I suggest you'll let them go."
We all turned our heads towards the stern voice and saw a man in his late forties with dark eyes, black hair and olive skin standing with his arms crossed over his muscular chest. Four other men and a red-haired girl were standing behind him. Two of the men were holding rifles and I guessed they were loaded with silver bullets.
"They are coming with us, so walk away, Beta." The man growled. Beta Rafe smirked.
"Kill them."
Everything happened at once. Elijah pulled me down on the ground while the men fired their weapons on the Midnight wolves. Two of the Midnight wolves jumped in a fight with the unknown group, but were quickly defeated. "Fall back." Beta Rafe ordered.
The Midnight wolves started to retreat while Beta Rafe smirked at me.
"See you around, sweetie."
Elijah growled and tightened his hold on me.
"Goodbye Ampel."
Beta Rafe waved before he walked away.
Elijah and I turned our heads towards the unknown group and got up on our feet. I didn't recognize them as members of the Red Ridge Pack and I started to slowly back away.
Elijah sensed my hesitation and followed my lead.
"Th-Thank you for the help. We-We'll be on our way now." I stammered.
The man who spoke earlier and seemed to be the leader stepped forward.
"Are you Sally Freeman?"
Elijah pulled me behind himself.
"Stay back!" He shouted.
The man put his hands up.
"Relax, we're not here to harm you. We just wanna talk alright. Are you Sally?"
"Yes." I squeaked out.
The man and the rest of the group went from stern and tense to having huge grins on their faces.
"Thank the Goddess we found you!" The man said and walked toward us, making us tense up and back away again.
"Who are you?" Elijah asked.
"My name is Joe, I am the head warrior of the Blue Eclipse Pack. The Beta asked us to search for you after the Midnight Pack requested your information on the Blacklist."
I started to relax a little. If they were from Blue Eclipse, then perhaps they knew George.
Elijah narrowed his eyes.
"What do you want with Sally?"
"We received information that the Midnight Pack was looking into Sally, so we've been tracking you from there. Alpha Richard tried to convince us that you were dead, but when we discovered that he was lying we tried to replace you." "How did you replace us?" I asked.
"We knew the general direction you were heading, but our Beta said that you always dreamed of seeing Caroville Science Park so we guessed that we would replace you here."
"I'm sorry. I don't know who your Beta is, but my brother was supposed to get to the Blue Eclipse Pack. George Freeman. He has a human mate named Alex. Do you know him?" I asked.
I dreaded the answer. What if George and Alex never made it there?
Joe smirked.
"Sorry. I think I have been a little inarticulate here. George is our Beta."
I gaped at him.
"George is your Beta?"
Joe nodded.
"He was just appointed. Our last Beta was a bit of a catastrophe, to put it mildly. Alpha Jordan wanted George to take over. In return, George requested that we replace you."
"And your Alpha would just go along with that?" Elijah growled.
"It was the only request George had in return for becoming Beta and Alpha Jordan agreed to his condition. In fact, Alpha Jordan wants to invite you to the Blue Eclipse Pack. You can be a pack member again if you want, Sally?"
I blinked, feeling like I should pinch my arm or something.
Was this real? Was I dreaming?
I wouldn't have to be a Rogue anymore?
It was a tempting offer. I could feel my wolf weakening with each passing day. It wasn't natural for a wolf to be without a pack. My wolf was desperately longing for the company of a pack and even though things got better when Elijah came along, it was still not the
same.
But what if it was a trap? I heard about hunters trying to kidnap Rogues and killing them for sport. Maybe Joe heard me telling Elijah about George just minutes earlier and was using that information to trick us to go with them?
I tightened my grip on Elijah's arm and walked backwards.
"I'm sorry, but I don't know you. How do I know that I can trust you?" I said.
Taking a few steps forward, Joe lowered his voice.
"George told us the truth. I know about Tommy. You were accused of a crime that you didn't commit, weren't you?"
My heart skipped a beat. The only way he could have known was if George had told him.
"I-Is George in t-trouble?" I stammered.
Joe chuckled.
"Not at all. Alpha Jordan is not going to punish him for it. What happened wasn't either of your fault. A lot of people have come to our pack because the lack of acceptance got them into trouble in their old packs. I don't blame George for what happened. We came here to invite you to our pack. You can come with us right now if you'd like."
I felt the hope inside me being crushed again and I shook my head. Disappointment flickered in Joe's eyes.
"I appreciate that you came all this way to replace me, and thank you for saving us from the Midnight wolves, but I can't join a new pack without my mate. As long as he's a Rogue, I will choose to stay Rogue aswell."
Joe smiled.
"I'm guessing this is your mate?"
I nodded and Joe grinned at us.
"Congratulations. We suspected that you had met your mate, but we weren't sure. We'd be thrilled to have both of you in our pack."
I looked at Elijah, silently asking his opinion.
"I trust you." He whispered and I smiled.
Joe beamed and I noticed the others smiling too.
"The car is this way!" He exclaimed before he turned around and started walking.
I took a seat by the window, thinking about everything that happened. The past four months had been the hardest of my life, but I was so grateful for Elijah. Moon Goddess works in mysterious ways and maybe, just maybe, everything would work out in the end.
