The Blacklisted Rogue -
Chapter 22
Sally
POV
We made our way to the Alpha wing of the packhouse. For the first time in months, I had a good night's sleep. I woke up in Elijah's arms, feeling a sense of peace wash over me when I listened to him snoring softly. I smiled to myself as we arrived in the dining room.
Alpha Jordan was seated at the head of the table. Luna Roberta on his right side. Avery, Gamma Barry and Head warrior Joe were also sitting at the table, chatting happily amongst themselves. "Welcome." Alpha Jordan greeted us happily. "Have a seat and help yourselves."
We joined them at the table and started to serve ourselves breakfast.
"Thank you for having us, Alpha." Elijah mumbled.
"I'm really happy that you are here. If you want to become members of my pack, then there some things we need to discuss, and this is a perfect time to do so. I don't want you to feel like you're being interrogated or anything." Alpha Jordan laughed. "In the Blue Eclipse pack, everyone matters. We have different rankings, but that doesn't mean that an Omega have any less worth than an Alpha. We work together and lift each other up by respecting our differences instead of tearing each other down. Is that something you guys can live by?"
I nodded and glanced at Elijah.
"This way of life is a bit unusual for werewolves. How come the Blue Eclipse pack has decided to do things like this?" Elijah asked.
Alpha Jordan remained silent for a moment and I felt Elijah tense up.
"I'm sorry if my question offended you. I was just curious how this pack came to be doing things so differently." He blurted. Alpha Jordan smiled.
"I'm not offended Elijah. I understand your curiosity. I started this pack, but I wasn't always the Alpha you see before you. My father was Alpha of the Scarlett Crescent pack up north. My parents had three kids. My older sister Carly, Avery and myself." "Where is Carly now?" I asked quietly.
Alpha Jordan got a solemn look on his face when he continued.
"Carly was a year older than me. She was destined to take over the pack after my parents. But by the time she was seven, my parents had taken her to several doctors until they figured her out." Alpha Jordan sighed.
"She was severely autistic. Carly couldn't understand the world around her and the world didn't understand her in return. She could have several outbursts every day and was always so frustrated. My parents thought it was just a phase, something that could disappear with the right encouragement. They sent her away to a neighboring pack and subjected her to rigorous training. When that didn't help-"
Jordan gulped
"My father took Carly out into the forest and killed her."
A heavy silence hung over the people in the room.
"I'm so sorry." I whispered.
Alpha Jordan smiled weakly.
"After Carly's death, I was supposed to become Alpha. But I couldn't lead a pack where this was allowed to happen. I thought that if I tried to change things, Carly wouldn't have died for nothing. But the pack members wouldn't hear of it. After I became Alpha, everyone worked against me at every turn until I gathered the few people I could trust and left the pack to start our own. A pack where no one had to suffer just because they were different." "I'm sorry for your loss." Elijah mumbled.
"That's why it's important that you guys can adapt to our beliefs. Can you do that?"
"Yes Alpha." Elijah and I said in unison.
Alpha Jordan smiled.
"Great." He exclaimed. "Now some more practical matters: Sally, I've been in contact with Alpha Hudson from Red Ridge and he has agreed to remove you from the Blacklist." I gaped at him.
"Really?" I squealed.
Alpha Jordan nodded and chuckled.
"It's all been sorted out, but I wouldn't advertise your Blacklist registration for the entire pack if I were you. Guilty or not, it might raise a few eyebrows."
"I won't." I grinned. "Thank you, Alpha. This means a lot to me."
Alpha Jordan gave me a quick nod and continued:
"Since you didn't get to finish high school I would suggest that you go back to school and catch up on what you've missed out on. Have you any dreams or ambitions about what you want to do careerwise?" "I've always wanted to be a doctor." I said shyly.
"Alpha, if I may." Alex chimed in. "The pack hospital has been working on an internship program. Maybe Sally could sign up and get some experience. From what George told me, her grades were really good so she would be a perfect candidate."
I eagerly accepted the opportunity to join the internship program and Alpha Jordan turned to Elijah.
"What about you, Elijah? What did you do in your old pack and what are your dreams and ambitions?"
Elijah remained silent for a moment.
"I-I don't know really." He stammered. "I was supposed to be Gamma and take over the title after my first shift. I have a lot of training and maybe that could be useful if the Midnight pack will cause trouble in the future. I know their tactics, but my wolf isn't strong enough to be a warrior. I guess you can just put me wherever you like and I'll learn what it is you want me to do." He rambled.
I frowned at him, surprised by his nervousness. Elijah seemed uncomfortable with this conversation and I wasn't really sure why. He rarely talked about what his life was like in his old pack.
Alpha Jordan seemed to pick up on his nervousness too, because he looked at Elijah with a sad frown on his face.
"I want to see where you're at with your training first. After all, you two managed to escape that place. I'm not going to blindly trust the judgment of Alpha Richard so I would like to see you in action. If you're interested, of course."
Elijah stared at him for a moment, then he nodded.
"I can show you, Alpha, but I don't think I'd make a very good warrior."
Alpha Jordan leaned forward and placed his elbows on the table.
"Can I ask you a question, Elijah?"
"Y-Yes Alpha." Elijah whispered.
"What do you want? If the sky was the limit for you, what would you be doing?"
Elijah fidgeted with his hands in his lap and I quietly placed my hands on his thigh to help calm him down.
"I-I don't know Alpha." He whispered.
Elijah kept his eyes cast down and I could tell that he was clearly uncomfortable with the topic.
"Perhaps you can see how the warriors work and give some tactical advice. If you feel that it's not for you, then maybe we could replace something else." I suggested, trying to ease the tension for Elijah.
"That's an excellent idea, Sally." Alpha Jordan smiled.
Elijah nodded and smiled at me.
"Sounds good." He said and kissed me on the cheek.
Breakfast passed quite smoothly after that. We decided that Elijah and I would be initiated into the pack the next full moon, which was ten days away. Avery asked if I wanted to go shopping with her and I happily agreed to go. It felt like a lifetime ago I went shopping with my girlfriends back in Red Ridge and I really missed it.
Especially since the only clothes I had were either ragged and dirty or belonged to someone else.
"Do you want me to get something for you too?" I asked Elijah.
He didn't really take anything with him when we left the Midnight pack, so I guessed he was in need of some clothes too.
"Sure, if that's alright with you." He replied.
Elijah agreed to join Joe and George on the training grounds to check out the warriors and training drills.
When we finished breakfast, Avery took my hand and pulled me away to a blue Mercedes parked beside the pack house. We got in and she pulled out on the road towards the closest town.
