Elijah POV

I quickly shifted back and ran over to Joe. Carefully, I turned his wolf so that I could check for a pulse.

My trembling fingers tried to locate his pulse, but couldn't replace it.

"Joe!" I called out. "Joe!"

I heard the snapping of bones and looked up to see my father standing over me.

"Why would you kill him!" I roared.

Before he could answer, I lunged at him.

I didn't care anymore. This man stopped being my father a long time ago. This stranger standing before me was nothing but a cruel man that had pestered my life for too long.

If I was in a fight in human form I had a better chance. I managed to punch my father square in the face.

We both tumbled to the ground together and my father elbowed me in my chest to get me off of him.

Still lying on the forest floor, we struggled for a while.

The rage I felt for this man was unreal. I couldn't stop the red haze that clouded my vision.

I wanted to kill him.

A sharp pain in my neck interrupted my focus and my father sent me flying to the ground.

Groaning, I felt the pain radiate from my neck and down my spine.

One of the warriors I recognized as Brian stood behind me. I reached up and pulled out a small dart.

Wolfsbane.

The dose wasn't strong enough to knock me out, but it was enough to weaken me and leave me unable to shift into my wolf.

"You are my biggest disappointment, Elijah." My father sighed. "So weak that you couldn't even save your friend."

I glared at him, trying to ignore how my chest clenched at his comment.

"I've been a disappointment all my life." I panted. "But at least I kicked your a*s without cheating."

I threw the dart at him.

My father chuckled.

"And yet, you are losing." He spat. "You just lost your friend, you are losing your mate as we speak, and you will lose your life before dawn." My eyes widened at him.

What did he mean by losing my mate?

Noticing my expression, he chuckled.

"Yes, Beta Rafe just mind-linked that he's bringing Sally right now. How about we join in on the fun? I think the Alpha would like that."

Brian grabbed me from behind and pulled me to my feet. I felt my hands being tied behind my back before we started to walk through the forest.

Sally POV

I kicked and screamed, but it was no use. Beta Rafe was stronger than me even without the Wolfsbane coursing through my veins. Now I was basically rendered useless as he dragged me through the forest. Dread settled in the pit of my stomach when we reached a clearing and I saw Alpha Richard standing there smirking at me.

I tried to get away from him, but Beta Rafe's grip hardened and he pushed me forward so I stumbled into Alpha Richard's arms.

My skin crawled when he touched me and I thrashed against him.

"Shh shh, my love." He cooed. "I won't hurt you."

Taken aback by his words, I frowned and looked at him.

"Get away from me." I snapped.

Alpha Richard smiled and ran his finger along my cheek. I recoiled away from him.

He laughed.

"Don't worry sweetie, your mate will be joining us shortly."

My blood ran cold.

"Wh-What do you mean?" I ask, dreading the answer.

Alpha Richard looked behind me and I heard twigs snapping as someone stepped on them.

I turned around and saw Elijah being pushed into the clearing.

He fell to his knees with a grunt. He was naked and bloodied and his hands were tied behind his back.

Instinctively, I tried to reach him, but Alpha Richard pulled me back.

"Let me go!" I screamed.

I thrashed against his grip and tried to kick him to make him release me, but he was relentless.

Elijah looked up with pain-filled eyes and the tears that I desperately tried to hold in started to stream down my cheeks.

Somehow, I had hoped that Elijah had a plan. That we were going to get out of this unharmed like last time.

Things don't happen the same way twice apparently. The dejected look on Elijah's face told me that we weren't getting out of this. "What do you want with us?" I cried.

"I want a ruthless killer like you as my Luna." Alpha Richard said and caressed my hair. "Together we will lead the Midnight pack to glory."

I stared at him dumbfounded.

Was he really serious about that?

"What makes you think that I'm a ruthless killer?" I asked.

Alpha Richard laughed.

"I read your trial report on the Blacklist." He whispered in my ear. "You are perfect. The girl I've been looking for. The Midnight pack is the fiercest pack in the country, and I need a Luna to reflect that." He took my hand.

"Come with me, my Luna, and I will make you mine."

I shook my head and jerked my hand out of his grip.

"No, Elijah is my mate." I said. "I belong to him."

Alpha Richard smirked.

"Not if I kill him."

I felt my stomach drop.

"No! I screamed. "Not even if you kill him. I don't belong to you. I will never belong to you."

Alpha Richard pushed me away from himself and I felt myself being engulfed by Beta Rafe's arms.

Being free of me, he stalked over to Elijah and put a gun to his head.

"We'll see about that."

"NO no please please please..." I sobbed.

"I'm sorry."

Elijah's voice made me stop talking and I looked into his beautiful brown eyes.

"Look away, baby." He whispered. "I love y..."

The sound of the shot tore through my body and I stared in disbelief as Elijah's body fell to the ground.

I didn't even register my own scream when I started to feel the mate bond weaken inside me as his life slipped away.

My knees buckled under me and I crawled on the ground towards Elijah.

Before I could reach him, I was pulled away again.

I tried to fight, but it felt like I had been drained of all energy. Instead I gave up and stopped struggling, feeling completely numb as I stared at Elijah's body on the ground.

A warrior ran into the clearing and bowed.

"Alpha." He said. "Our forces are unable to reach the packhouse."

Alpha Richard shrugged.

"We have what we came for."

"What???"

A man stepped up in front of Alpha Richard.

"That wasn't the deal." He snarled. "The deal was that you kill Alpha Jordan and hand the pack over to me!"

I frowned as I recognized him. George had pointed him out to me once. It was Michael, the former Beta.

"You?" I growled. "You betrayed the entire pack to become Alpha? Why didn't you just challenge Alpha Jordan yourself? Why did my mate have to die because of your cowardness?"

My voice broke and I fell to the ground with tears streaming down my cheeks.

Michael didn't seem to register what I said, he just turned back to Alpha Richard.

"A deal is a deal." He said sternly.

Alpha Richard smirked.

"Change of terms."

He pulled out the gun again and shot Michael.

As Michaels body dropped to the ground, I felt darkness surround me and I gladly welcomed it, hoping that it was death coming to take me too.
