The Blood Moon Twins -
Chapter 154
CAULDER
The moment Remy took my hand, we were transported back to the battlefield. Immediately, the shadows were expelled from Remy's body. I held her the entire time, and her body shook with a ferocity that terrified me. The shadows formed in a ball in the air and hovered there. Once it was all out of Remy's system, her legs gave out, and she collapsed into my arms lowered her to the ground, keeping an eye on the shadowy creature the entire time. kept my hand on her back, terrified to let her go.
"It's not over yet," Remy said from my arms. She shifted her position so she was sitting on her own, but
The shadows lingered in the air, weaker than it was before, but Remy was right. This creature would regain strength and destroy as much as possible without a vessel if we didn't do anything to stop it.
I looked up at the moon, and it was a deep red. It was at the pinnacle of the blood moon, and it was giving us all of the strength it possibly had to give. If we were going to defeat this creature, it was now or never.
I held out my hand to Remy and said, "Let's show it that it messed with the wrong set of twins."
Remy's lips pulled into a confident smile, and she took my hand. "It won't know what hit it."
We lifted our hands towards the creature together, and light started pouring out of us without even having to try. It was like the magic already knew what to do as it swarmed around the ancient creature of shadows. The creature shrieked as our magic burned it from how bright it was.
The light grew brighter and brighter until I couldn't see anymore, and it was only when the creature stopped shrieking that my vision came back. Feeling completely drained, the magic floated down around us like glitter falling around the sky. There were no signs of darkness anywhere, and I knew we had done it. This creature was gone.
After the initial shock was gone, Blade ran to Remy and scooped her in his arms. "I thought I had lost you," he whispered.
"I know." She held him back, and watching the two of them made me feel desperate for my own mate.
I was ready to return to the medical tent with Harper, but as I stood up, I realized all eyes were on the three of us. It didn't matter if it was friend or foe as they watched. It was like they were trying to decide if they were supposed to continue fighting each other or not. We saved everyone from a creature that was ready to destroy everything, but we were all supposed to be enemies.
"What are you doing?" Draven demanded, emerging from the crowd. He was addressing his fellow vampires "Don't just stand there. Kill them all!"
"It's over," I said quickly, wanting to make his warriors hesitate for as long as possible. "You unleashed a creature that put your own people at risk, one that would have killed everyone here if we hadn't stopped it. You don't care about them, and they see that." "I don't care if they know that," Draven snapped back. "I'm the one who matters. I was supposed to get that power that hybrid mut got." He pointed a finger at Remy, and a protective growl escaped my lips. "I will take her and get what I want. I always get what I want."
"Which is why you killed our father, isn't it?" Blade asked, positioning himself between Remy and Draven
Murmurs erupted from the vampires gathered around, making it clear the coven didn't know why there was a change in leadership.
"So what? He was a weak and narrow-sighted fool. I have made this coven stronger, and I plan to continue to do so. This is your last warning. Give up the girl, and I'll think about letting you live." Draven was crazed and delusional. He was practically foaming at the mouth, desperate for the kill.
"We destroyed your trump card. You can't win," I said. He still had the numbers, but Remy was more powerful now. I wasn't sure if it was enough, but I did see the hesitation in the eyes of the vampires that worked under Draven. They had seen what his leadership had done to their fellow coven members, and he openly admitted to not caring about them. I wanted to feed off their doubts for as long as possible.
"I will win, and I won't stop trying until you kill me." He inched towards me, taking his time. He was trying to use this time to get close enough to strike while my guard was down, but I would never let my guard down with him. I expected him to lunge at any moment
now.
"Then I'll have to kill you," I said. Kill ing was never my first choice, but Draven had made it very clear that there would be no other options with him, and after everything he had done, I was fine with that.
Draven laughed as if I had made a joke. He had to be delusional to think I would joke about something like that. Or perhaps he truly thought he was stronger than me. I wasn't sure which one it was, but it didn't matter. What Draven hadn't noticed was that his coven and the sorcerers fighting on his side were still frozen with indecision, while my people had slowly started to surround him.
"I'd like to see you try," Draven taunted.
So I gave him what he asked for.
I shifted into my wolf form in a split second, faster than I ever had before. I lunged at Draven with no hesitation. I could feel my own strength and alpha energy coursing through my veins as I flew through the air.
Draven was ready for my attack, and he moved out of the way, avoiding my attack with ease. He started laughing, pleased by my failure, but what he didn't realize was he played things exactly how I had expected them to. I was the one to play the mind games this time. Draven moved directly into Blade's path, and Blade swung at Draven from behind.
Blood splattered across the ground from the deep nail marks inflicted on Draven. Draven stumbled, completely shocked by his brother's actions. I moved towards him, using his own shock to pounce. If Draven hadn't kidnapped my sister and mate, if he hadn't threatened my pack and my family repeatedly, if he hadn't unleashed that creature into the world, I might have given him a chance to agree to captivity instead of the death penalty. However, Draven was a monster from the depths of hell, and I refused to let someone like him live in this world for any longer.
Blade held Draven in place, allowing me to take the final blow. I sank my teeth into his neck, and the vampire's blood filled my mouth. I tore into his flesh, and with his head now separated from his body, Draven collapsed to the ground.
It was over. Draven and Winslow were dead. We had even defeated that ancient creature, and there were no more threats lingering over our heads. We did it. We were free.
"Caulder," Remy said. She was still sitting on the ground, too weak to move.
I looked at Remy, trying to figure out why she was so worried. I followed her wide eyes onto the battlefield, and I saw the vampires stalking towards us, hissing as they approached. We killed their leader, and they were ready for revenge. I needed to talk to all of them, convince them that this was for the best, but I didn't know how to talk to all of them at once.
"Help me," Remy said. She struggled to get to her feet, and Blade and I both rushed to her side, each taking one arm.
The vampires continued to stalk forward. Killing Draven had the opposite effect I was hoping for.
"They're furious, and they are going to attack us any second. More will die." My voice was shakier than I wanted it to be. I wanted to stay strong and confident for everyone else, but I was tired. The blood moon was starting to wane, and I could feel my magic slowly draining. I had already used too much of my magic getting this far, and I knew I didn't have a full battle in me.
"We have to project to all of them," Remy said. "Like send a message to all of them at the same time, show them the world we saw. Maybe if we show them everything can be peaceful if they give up."
"Can you do that?" Blade asked.
"I don't know," Remy admitted. Her eyes met mine, looking for my thoughts. She was unsure and scared. She was just as tired as me, if not more, and I knew she couldn't handle much more of a fight either.
"We've done a lot we've never done before. What's one more thing?" I added a smirk to the end of the statement, and Remy's confidence shot up. I didn't know if it was actually possible, but tonight I believed in the impossible.
Once again, Remy and I held hands. I channeled the rest of my magic into her, supporting her as much as possible so she could say what she needed to. I gave her a nod, and with a quick breath, she began.
"Give up this fight now." Her voice rang in my head, and by the looks of everyone around us, they heard it too. With added confidence, Remy continued.
"We don't want to kill you. Draven threatened my family repeatedly because he wanted the power I have. You've seen it. You know what I can do. We don't want to hurt the rest of you, and if you go home now, no more blood has to be shed tonight. We have a chance for peace here, a kind of peace our kind hasn't known in generations. It starts today. It starts now."
Then an image filled my head. It was like the bright world I had seen when Remy was choosing between the dark and light, only this world was happier and more peaceful. Werewolves, sorcerers, and vampires lived together. They had mixed families, and no one batted an eye at it. Everyone worked together to create a better world.
The vision faded, and everyone seemed a little dazed, trying to figure out what was happening exactly. A vampire took a step forward, and my body tensed, ready to fight if it came to it. Remy squeezed my hand, smiling the entire time. She wasn't worried. The vampire stopped and nodded her head while looking at us. Then she turned and ran away, leaving the battlefield. One by one, more sorcerers and vampires disappeared, and I knew this war was over.
