Chloe laughed at Clarisse's words, but her gaze remained cold. "How do you think I should speak to you, Mother?" she asked, her icy gaze making Clarisse momentarily afraid, much like when she looked at Charles earlier. Charles gave Clarisse and Janet a dispassionate glance before saying, "Anna's already sleepy. Let's go, Chlo. I'll take you home."

He then left with Anna, not looking back.

Chloe smirked, feeling a twinge of satisfaction at Clarisse's pale face. "Mother, you should rest early. I'm leaving now."

Chloe came with a driver since her husband, Jordy Charlton, was on a business trip. She only learned of her mother's return when Charles called her.

Outside, Chloe saw Charles putting Anna in his car. She hurried over and said, "Charlie, let me take Anna. I brought the driver today."

Charles nodded. "Sure. You should head home soon. I'll be on my way too."

"Charlie!" Chloe called out, hesitating before sighing. "Our mother has been away from Brookville for so long. It's normal that she doesn't understand us. Don't take it to heart too much."

Charles replied, pressing his lips together, "I should be the one telling you this. I know my limits. Don't worry, Chlo. With your husband away, take good care of Anna."

Chloe nodded. "About the last time... Thank you," she said, still concerned.

Charles assured her, "No need for that between siblings. Just remember, as long as I'm here, you'll always have a place in the Hoffman family."

Chloe's eyes flickered. "I understand."

She knew his promise was as good as done. "I'll head back with Anna, then. You should go home too."

Charles returned to Phoenix Tree Residence after Noelle had already sent everyone away. With Charles out, Neelle spent some time working in the study to alleviate her O boredom.

She was going through the materials Brian had given her so that she would not have to rush things at work the next day. Before she knew it, it was past 10:00 pm. Hearing the car outside, Noelle put down her pen and walked to the window. In the moonlight, she saw Charles' car entering Phoenix Tree Residence and stood watching. When he got home, the living room lights were on, but Noelle was nowhere to be seen.

Just as he took off his shoes, he heard footsteps from the staircase. Noelle had come down wearing fluffy slippers. "Charlie, you're back?"

Charles nodded. As he removed his shoes, Noelle approached and took a pair of slippers from the shoe cabinet. Upon closer inspection, they were matching couple slippers.

Charles' foot paused mid-air as Noelle squatted to place the slippers by his feet. Noticing his hesitation, she looked up in puzzlement. "What's wrong?" Charles' narrowed eyes held a hint of amusement.

He bent down, picked up one slipper with his long fingers, and waved it in front of Noelle. "My wife has quite the child-like spirit, huh?"

Noelle was momentarily stunned

before she chuckled. She sheepishly

rubbed the back of her head. "Do you

like them? I saw this pair at the mall today. I thought they were cute and pretty, so I bought them."
