The Heir to the Alpha -
Chapter 28
Scarlett
"Alpha, we arrived at the place, it's a huge warehouse, it would be perfect for his plans, but it's empty… There's no sign that anyone has ever been here." I heard my father's voice over the phone, and I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion. "The Council guards have arrived too, but there's simply nothing."
"That's strange, but come to our location then," Christopher ordered and they disconnected the call, but I heard him sigh and say through his teeth. "There's something wrong."
Marquardt continued following Bertha's tracker and she was in the same place, it didn't make much sense, but we continued with the plan, the convoy of cars quickly entered the gates and there were some cars inside, but a lot of people, and as soon as our car parked I saw Bertha, she looked around confused and I couldn't stay still, I got out of the car quickly and my real desire was to finish what I started in the interrogation and punch her in the face, the guards started getting out of the cars, but to our surprise, other guards were leaving the warehouse, and they were guards from the South.
How could guards from the South be there? It was our territory, there were a lot of people, and a lot of theirs, but how?
I saw Christopher get out of the car too, I quickly went towards her, but before she arrived a loud and strong thick voice cut everyone off, it was Joshua, he came out of the warehouse and again all our guards pointed their weapons towards him. There was him, and all of his guards pointed their weapons in our direction, in less than two seconds, we were all stopped and trapped.
"Look, who's here?" He said, trying to be confident, but the truth was that I heard his voice tremble, and I knew that indicated that he was nervous and even scared, he probably didn't expect us to go there, that told me that we were on the right path, but a thread ran down my spine knowing that there were homes for our wolves nearby, it was within our territory, which in itself violated dozens of laws. I took a step back, there was a quarry behind me, and that made me feel partially safe, that at least behind me they wouldn't attack me, I was wearing a bulletproof vest, but I felt as if at any moment moment I would feel an attack, my heart would beat fast and hard inside my chest, and my hands would shake without control.
"How dare you settle within my territory?" Christopher's deep voice echoed even louder and thicker than Joshua's, and he just tilted his head to the side and laughed, he laughed as if he had one more trick up his sleeve. And that brought a chill down my spine that I wasn't expecting, because deep down I knew, deep down I felt that there was something more.
And then she appeared, Brisa came out of the shed to see what was happening, and there I felt my heart sink, and break, and I screamed involuntarily because of the pain I felt.
It was like it hurt inside my soul.
Another friend I trusted betrayed me, not only betrayed me, she betrayed the entire Pack.
I heard Christopher groan, and it was like adding even more pain to my suffering.
"Brisa…" The words left my mouth and escaped, and I saw her get scared when she saw all that.
"What can I say, women love diamonds…" Joshua said laughing, loudly, laughing, and another shiver ran through me.
"So it's really about the diamonds, you used the nonsense of saying that you thought Grandpa's division was unfair to mask your real reason, which was simply being able to mine diamonds from my Pack." Christopher started talking, and I found it strange that he seemed to want to start a conversation with Joshua, for what?
"Of course yes, I needed a reason, no matter how mediocre it was, to start a war with you. If the Council knew it was for minerals they would go against my war because of law 57 which says that no Pack can wish or initiate a war over the other's riches, but the territorial nonsense that I indicated as a reason is covered by law 69 which says that any decision by Alpha can be challenged if the injured party replaces it unfair, so I challenged grandpa's decision."
Joshua completed it and his talk about knowing all the Laws by heart was starting to irritate me.
"But then why didn't you accept the deal when I offered to give up a piece of my land?" Christopher asked as if he genuinely doubted that.
"Because you, my cousin, wanted to give me lands that didn't have much ore underneath, and I didn't just want a little, I wanted everything, my plans involved exploring all the ore, taking all the diamonds, and the alliances I made to this requires a lot of money to pay everyone." Joshua continued to talk, and then I saw Christopher walk in circles, while I saw the weapons of the Southern guards follow him, and it terrified me.
"Like Rufus?" Christopher asked and I saw that Joshua's eyes were wide-eyed, he didn't know we knew.
"Yeah, like Rufus, and everyone else. Even the two of them here. As angry as they were at your bitch, they charged a lot to tell me everything." Joshua said and Christopher squirmed when the word bitch was said.
"Wash your filthy mouth to talk about Scarlett," Christopher growled and I felt his wolf close.
"Okay, Scarlett then, I forgot that she is the mother of your child, that's the only reason you got attached, right? But anyway, paying them all is expensive, I need all the money I can get." Joshua finished and rubbed his fingers.
"And how are you hiding these financial receipts?" Christopher asked.
"My alliance with Rufus involves laundering a little money, who would suspect the finances of the Pack's guard? They get a new training center and are happy, and I launder the diamond money by overpricing the values of things. It's never been easier ." Joshua's words disgusted me, and he told everything like that, so simple, easy, and without any remorse or resentment.
"You must think we're going to leave here dead to tell all this, right?" Christopher asked and Joshua laughed.
"I don't think so cousin, I'm sure," Joshua said, smiling sadistically, and it gave me goosebumps again, but this time the goosebumps were added to a sharp, acidic pain on the side of my belly, and I turned around, but from then on everything, absolutely everything, went into slow motion.
When I turned around I came face to face with a guard, he wasn't ours, nor from the South, and my eyes lowered until I saw the Council's uniform, in his hand he had a dagger, and he stuck it into the side of my belly, passing through the opening of the bulletproof vest. I felt my eyes widen, and I didn't have time to have any reaction, I saw a wolf appearing from behind me, he pushed with both paws, throwing the man away.
The wolf was gray, it wasn't Christopher, and it was only when he turned his eyes to me, looking at me pleadingly to know if I was okay, that I saw his brown eyes, that I recognized Bob's wolf, it was my brother.
He then turned to the man who tearing the Council guard's uniform and turned into a large black wolf, my brother was in attack position, but before any other movement, I saw Christopher's wolf bite the black wolf's body, and the two entered into combat, but Christopher's wolf was much bigger than him because he was an Alpha wolf, and it took seconds until Christopher's wolf bit his neck and ripped his head off.
Everything was still happening in slow motion, but to top it all off, a rock from the cliff came rolling towards me, and only then did I feel my knees weaken to the point where I fell to the ground. I looked to the side and saw the blood running so quickly down my leg, seeing that scene I felt my thoughts start to align, I realized that the blade that cut me was silver, a silver blade cut my belly, and even that didn't reach my uterus, the silver in my bloodstream would kill Anthony in minutes, we were too far from the hospital, we wouldn't make it in time, even if my son was still alive inside me, he would die, it would be the end of him, mine, and I knew that probably Christopher's too, and then I completely broke down, there I completely lost my hopes and my faith too.
I saw the stone coming towards me and I stood still, maybe dying there would be less painful than waiting for the silver to consume me from the inside.
There, I closed my eyes and waited.
I know it is a lot of emotions, who else is anxious about the next chapter? Tell me what you are thinking about the story.
