The next morning, Carver was on the patio looking out at the lake when Tora joined him. “We’re never going to replace Nichallo and my mom, are we?” Tora asked. Carver looked at Tora. He noticed that she had a defeated look on her face and what looked like tear stains on her face.

“It’s been days since they went missing but instead of replaceing them, we’ve had to keep running and hiding from every single person or monster that is looking for us.” Tora explained. She looked away from Carver as she started to cry again. “I miss my mom!” She sobbed.

Carver felt bad. It had been his idea after all to stay hidden until he could think of an actual plan. He went over to Tora and knelt in front of her. “It’ll be okay.” He told her. “I promise you that we’ll get your mom and Nichallo back.” He rubbed Tora’s arm. “We’re not going to stop until we’ve saved our friends and defeat this Tempest guy.”

Tora looked at Carver through her tears before she hugged him. She kept crying.

“I promise you that we’ll get them back.” Carver told her again. “We’re family after all.” After everything that they had all gone through and everything that Nichallo, Cassidy, Elizabeth and he had gone through with Skye years before, they were a small family.

Tora looked at him. “Do you promise that?” She asked. She really needed her family there.

“I do promise.” Carver replied. “We’re family Tora. We’ve all been through something that no one else has gone through.” He brushed her hair back. He had always thought about doing that with his daughter if she had survived being born.

“Hey Carver!” Both Carver and Tora turned to see Eir standing in the doorway. She had a phone in her hand. “Detective Hamilton is on the phone!” Eir told them.

Carver groaned. So much for staying hidden. He looked at Tora. “Stay here.” He told her. He wasn’t sure why the detective had called Eir but he didn’t want the detective to replace out about the others who were there.

Carver went over to Eir. “How did he know that I was here?” He asked Eir quietly.

Eir shrugged. “I don’t know. He just called me and said it was important that he spoke to you about something. Apparently he’s been trying to call you but you haven’t picked up your phone as of late.” She explained.

Carver looked at the phone. “He didn’t mention Molly or Tora?” He asked her quietly.

Eir shook her head. “Better speak to him.” She told Carver. “Try to shake him loose if you can.” She handed him the phone.

Carver took a breath before he answered. “Hi Detective Hamilton, is something wrong?”

“What’s wrong is that you haven’t answered any of my last few dozen calls.” Detective Hamilton replied on the other end of the call. “Care to explain why you haven’t answered or do I need to launch a man hunt for you? Also, why are you at Elizabeth’s cousin’s home? Do you know something about Elizabeth’s disappearance.”

Carver gave Eir a look. “I was about to ask Valerie about Elizabeth.” Carver replied. “I was out on a camping trip when she called me to see if I knew where Elizabeth was. When Elizabeth didn’t reply to any of my phone calls, I decided to ask Valerie about her.” He hoped that Detective Hamilton believed him. “What made you think about calling Valerie to replace me?”

“I didn’t know you were with Valerie at this time.” Detective Hamilton answered. “I was just trying to replace someone who might be able to get a hold of you and thought Valerie might replace your number in her cousin’s car.”

Carver was about to say something when he saw Molly come down the stairs. She had a scared look on her face. Carver frowned. “What did you need to tell me?” He asked Detective Hamilton as he help a finger up to his mouth. To his relief, Molly nodded.

“Rivers and I found out something during our investigation last night.” Detective Hamilton told Carver. “We’re still having it run through with our guys over at the forensic department but we believe that we’ve discovered what really happened to your daughter when she was born.”

Carver felt weak in the knees. He wasn’t sure what the detective was talking about. “Detective, my daughter is dead.” He said in a shaky voice. “There was a miscarriage and she was a stillborn.” He sat down on a chair.

“She’s not dead Carver.” Detective Hamilton said in a serious voice. “I’m not sure if you remember him but Doctor Miller, one of the doctors who helped your wife give birth to your daughter, had falsified documents before handing your daughter over to his sister, our murdered victim.”

Carver couldn’t believe it. He looked at Molly. “What’s my daughter’s name.” He asked as his voice cracked. He had to hear it to make sure.

“Molly Miller.” Detective Hamilton replied. “She’s still missing but I promise you that once we replace her, we’ll bring her to you. Even if we have to take all of her extended family to court to explain why she belongs with you, we’re going to bring her to you.”

“Thank you.” Carver said. “Please replace her.” He then hung up and put the phone down.

Eir went over to him. “What’s wrong?” She asked. “You look like you just saw a ghost.”

Carver looked at Eir. “My daughter is still alive.” He told her. “Detective Hamilton said that my daughter is still alive. She didn’t die at the hospital all of those years ago like my wife and I had thought.”

Molly went up to him before she sat down next to him. She leaned her head against him and slid her hand into his. “We’ll replace your daughter as soon as we can.” She told him. She was a little upset that Carver wouldn’t be her father but she was happy that he would get to be a father.

Tora joined them. “What did Detective Hamilton want?” She asked. “Did something bad happened?”

Carver looked at Tora. “He said that my daughter was still alive.” He told her. “Apparently the doctor who had helped my wife and I that day at the hospital lied about our daughter and gave her to his sister to raise.” Carver took Tora’s hand in his. “I know you all probably have questions about who or where my daughter is but right now, we need to replace a way to save our friends and to defeat Tempest.” He wasn’t sure how to explain to Molly that she was his daughter and he didn’t want Tora to feel like she wasn’t as important. He could tell that Tora was feeling like she didn’t matter.

“Are you sure we shouldn’t head to New York City and help Hamilton replace your missing daughter?” Eir asked. She knew that the world was in trouble but she thought Carver should at least get the chance to meet his daughter.

Carver looked at Eir. “My daughter isn’t missing.” He told her before he looked at Tora and Molly. “She’s right here with her sister or cousin, whichever one Tora wants to be.”

Tora and Molly looked at him before they looked at each other. They realized what Carver was saying.

“I’m your daughter?” Molly asked as tears came to her eyes.

“I have a sister?” Tora asked.

Tears came to their eyes as they couldn’t help but hug.

“Sister?” Molly asked. She always wanted a sister.

“Sister for life.” Tora replied. Carver might be like an uncle to her but in her heart, Tora felt like he was the father she wanted in her life.
