The Lycan Series
Bullied By The Lycan King Chapter 37

Violet's POV

My mother's voice echoed in my head and I couldn't stop thinking about it. The widow had also gone to my parents. She had gone to Savannah and she came to me too.

This just proved to me that she had other motives. She was just using us -well she wasn't using me at all and I wouldn't let her use my parents either.

As soon as the rays of the morning sun filled my room, I walked out and went in search of her. She mentioned her room was just down the hallway from mine, so she should be close.

I walked briskly but confidently to avoid being questioned by the guards patrolling the area.

The wing was for special criminals, if I could say that. If you were a suspect or the King just didn't know what to do with you, they brought us here.

I got to the last door and knocked, waiting for whoever was inside to respond. If it wasn't the Widow, then I would check the one opposite it.

The moment the door opened, her voice filled my ears as she stood before me with a white veil over her head.

"The day is too early for visitation and I would replace means to satisfy that foolish boy king if I were you rather than come here to question my good intentions."

The sharp contrast from her usual dark veils to a white one stunned me for a few seconds before I tuned into what she was saying and my eyes narrowed. "Good morning Widow, may I come in?"

It was her turn to be shocked. Her head bobbed as if she lacked words to say and I wished I could see her face.

Using her moment of weakness to my advantage, I invited myself into her room.

It was pretty much identical to mine and every other thing seemed normal until my eyes fell on the scribbles on the wall.

"Ava-lyn... Avalyn." I read aloud then turned to her. "Is that your name?".

"Oh, may the goddess cast me dead if I ever bear such a horrible name!" Her voice came out like a croak beneath her veil.

"Hmm, why do you have her name written all over your walls then?"

Her veil made that bobbed movement again and she stepped into her room and closed the door behind her.

"What do you want, Violet?"

I left her wall alone and moved closer to her, deciding to finally do what I came here for.

"What is your motive? Why do you want Axel dead? Why are you using my parents? They say you are helping them escape. What's in it for you?" I rained my questions on her and waited for her to speak. She let out a sound that was like a scoff and her fingers came before her in her usual pose.

"You are such a child Violet. Always asking the wrong questions. Shouldn't you be happy that I am trying to help your parents escape this prison?"

"That's the problem. I am not. I want them out of here. But I don't want it like this. What if they got caught?"

"Did I get caught when I helped you escape execution?" Her sinister voice filled the room and I felt anger course into me. She was playing a game here.

"You didn't help me escape anything because I didn't do it!" I yelled in frustration.

Her fingers broke from their position and she raised her left hand in the air like she was about to try a new dance.

"Hmm, there you go being insubordinate again. Always the foolish little girl running after your father's biggest enemy. Playing with him when you should be plotting to end him!"

Her words provoked me but I refused to let her get to me. My priorities were my parents and all I wanted was their safety no matter what.

"You had s*x with him once and now you have grown back to being that sick little girl again!"

I calmed myself and placed two of my fingers against my temples, slowly easing out the throb her annoying gestures and words caused.

"You are one of them, Widow! And I don't trust you! I don't trust you with my parents at all! I want you to stop! Leave them out of your plans! Please!" I cried out.

She paused for a second and I thought she was finally going to agree to something I said but she threw her head back and a cackling laughter filled the room.

"Darling Violet... Always so gullible. You think that I am your enemy and Greg isn't? Because he gave your mother a chair to sit her arse on?" She squeaked. "Don't be ridiculous child!"

My hands pulled into fists and I took a step closer to her. "At least I trust him. I trust that he will keep his end of the bargain because his motives are clear. How about you? I don't even know your name! How am I supposed to believe that you can help me when I don't know how you know so much about me? Huh?"

"A*, poor darling Violet..." She whispered and her head moved to the side. Her extravagantly long white dress started moving along the floors and she stopped before the wall where the scribblings were.

"I could tell you who I am or what I want but we have the same problem child," she turned her head in my direction, "I don't trust you. Continue playing with that boy King. Get him to trust enough and when the time is right, you shall strike. When you do and succeed, I promise to tell you who I am. Then you will realize, our motives are not so different..."

An aura darker than the one she had always possessed filled the room and my skin crawled as I listened to her speak. The woman was definitely twisted and I remained certain that I wanted nothing to do with her.

I could only hope that my parents would listen to me.

Without saying a word, I turned around and walked out of her room.

My mind was clouded and I feared for my parents. The Widow couldn't be trusted. I would have to speak to them again. I would have to be certain that they were convinced to steer clear of the woman.

I got to Axel's chambers and as usual, it was empty. Without giving much thought to it, I started working, ignoring the strong alluring scent of his cologne.

As much as I tried not to think about what had happened between us, I couldn't forget. I wanted to hate him. I wanted to push him away from me forever. He wasn't the perfect person my childish little mind had come up with when I was younger.

I saw him as my hero back then. Not just figuratively but he did save me more time than I could count.

I could vividly remember how he saved me from the cold clutches of the creek. He had warned me but I stubbornly refused to listen to him and I jumped right in. I realized too late that the water could kill me.

When I thought I was going to die, Axel was the first to jump into the water to save me, and to think my father had left him cold and wet in that creek as punishment.

A sad smile lingered on my face as the sad memories flashed in my mind. Maybe I deserved what he did to me for all the wrongs I had done to him. If only I had been less stubborn, he could have avoided a lot of punishment. Suddenly the door opened and I jumped out of my skin as I wasn't expecting Axel to return.

"Axel -My King," I stuttered.

With my head bowed I started looking for what to do to avoid a conversation with him. When I found none, I decided it was best I left.

Quickly I started heading to the door but his voice stopped me, freezing all the nerves in my body.

"Violet," he whispered and I swallowed.

What could he want from me, now?

I wished I could keep staring away from him but that was not worthy behaviour from a princess. So with my head held high, I turned around and looked straight into his eyes.

"Yes?" I said, my voice impressively strong. "Is there something you need?"

His eyes were a darker shade of green as he stared back at me. He looked like he had a lot to say, yet didn't know where to begin.

If I wasn't an overthinker, I would have said he wanted to apologize and a part of me felt excited by this prospect.

But before he could speak, a sharp knock resonated at the door, snapping us out of whatever was sizzling between us.

"Yes, Hilda. You may come in," Axel said and true to his words, it was indeed Hilda.

She threw a quick look at me before turning her focus to Axel.

"My King, you called for me," she said with a bow.

Axel turned away from us. His hands folded behind him and his shoulders held high, even though I could literally feel the burden looming over them. "Yes, I did, Hilda. I want you to move Violet from her current room..." He said and my heart flipped.

Where was he sending me now? I thought this was supposed to be an apology!

Hilda and I exchanged looks and she narrowed her eyes at me as if to ask what I had done but I shook my head, silently assuring her that I did nothing. "Yes, of course, My King. Where will you want her?" Hilda asked and I held my breath as we waited for his reply.

"My wing. I am elevating her status." He turned around and once again his dark green eyes held mine. "She is no longer a slave. She is now my mistress."
