The Lycan Series -
Bullied By The Lycan King Chapter 41
Violet's POV
I still couldn't wrap it around my fingers that Axel had prepared a room specifically for me. This couldn't have been a coincidence. He had really done it to look like the room as a child.
I wanted to ask him about it, but there was so much tension between us, I didn't think that would be the right thing to do.
Besides, I still couldn't understand why he had made me his mistress. As much as I tried to tell myself that it wasn't a big deal, I couldn't help but get butterflies each time I thought about my new status.
As we all gathered for Hera's funeral, my mind was still battered over it. It felt like my body was there and my mind was somewhere else entirely. I needed someone to tell me what I had to do at this point because my brain had turned to cheese and nothing made sense to me anymore.
I could hear Savannah's loud wails but they sounded distant. I made up my mind at once to go visit my parents. I had to talk to my mother. She at least could tell me what this meant and what I was supposed to do.
As soon as the funeral came to an end, I walked behind Hilda and Sky, as they walked me to my room.
"Oh geez, did you see the way the king was staring at you? Oh my God, I was melting and I am not even you!" Sky exclaimed as soon as we got into the King's wing.
"Zip your lips, the king might be returning as well. I wouldn't want him to hear you speaking of him in that manner," Hilda said in a matter-of-fact tone.
"Oh come on, Hilda, you don't have to be all uptight every time. Relax and have fun!" Sky giggled, the sound making me forget about my worries for a few seconds.
"Fun?" Hilda repeated, sending her a cold glare. "I do not replace gossiping to be a form of entertainment," she said and I couldn't help but snicker too.
"She wasn't gossiping, she just merely stated an observation..." I corrected her, hoping to ease the tension between them.
Hilda turned her cold glare to me and I regretted intervening in their matters.
"An observation about the king is not meant to be a fun thing especially when it's spoken in public! It will only get her head severed!"
Sky gave me a sad look and I signaled to her to hold it all in till we got to my room, there she would be free to speak as she liked and no one would scold her for it. Not even uptight Hilda.
Soon we got to my room and Sky went in first but I waited outside. Hilda was about to step in when she noticed that I wasn't following her.
Her face pinched into a frown at once but before she could speak, I said what was on my mind.
"Hilda, I need to go see my mom," I said, dropping my eyes to the ground. I knew this was breaking the rules but I needed to see her right now.
"Did you get permission from beta Greg?" She asked, her voice low and calculated.
"I know what you are thinking. I know I am not supposed to go there but... I don't understand what is happening. I need-" I paused as my voice started breaking. I took a deep breath and then continued.
"I don't know how long I am going to have them here with me, please let me go talk to her..." I pleaded.
I knew that if I was ever going to get a chance to go see them with Hilda's approval, I was going to have to dive into tactics that she couldn't refuse.
"She could always sneak out, but she asked," Beta Greg's voice filled the corridor and we both spun around to look at him.
I quickly bowed my head at him. "Beta Greg," I greeted, twisting my fingers behind me.
He nodded at me and moved closer to Hilda. "Taking difficult decisions is a part of being a leader, Hilda. I am sure your mother taught you this because, during her time, she made a hell lot of decisions especially when she was dealing with Avalyn." A smile formed on my face as I realized he was speaking on my behalf. But something tugged within me at the name he had just mentioned. I have heard that name before...
"The King will not approve if he heard that she was permitted to go to the dungeons to see her parents," Hilda said with a frown.
Beta Greg placed his hands behind him and started moving toward me. "True. He won't be happy. But," he paused and looked into my eyes, "he will also not be happy that his mate is filled with burdens that she wants to share with her mother..." Hilda's head snapped up and a cloud of confusion sat on her face. Her lips opened and closed at such a fast pace my brows raised in surprise as I tried to understand what was working her up this much.
"Forgive me, Beta Greg, I didn't know," she finally blurted out and then turned to me. "You may go ahead. I will be right behind you."
My smile returned and I bowed at Beta Greg. "Thank you, sir," I said and scurried away from them.
As I walked further down the corridor, I could hear Hilda's frantic whispers as she questioned the old Beta but I shrugged off my shoulders at their problem. I had bigger issues on my plate.
I continued my journey to the dungeon and when Hilda appeared before me, I wasn't surprised. She knew the mansion better than I did, she could have taken the shortest route.
As we both got to the entrance, I let her speak to the guards like she used to and they easily left their post for me to do as I please.
"Thank you, Hilda," I said as I walked in.
She offered me a tightlipped smile but she didn't give me her usual warnings which was strange but again I let it slide.
My parents were already at their barred door by the time I got to their cell. Quickly, I went to my mother and I grabbed her hands.
"My dear child, look at you!" She exclaimed as she took in my appearance. "The widow told us but I didn't believe her. Things are happening so fast!"
"And we must make the most of it before it is too late!" My father chimed from his end.
All the anxiety I felt towards the widow and my new status suddenly overwhelmed me and I broke away from my mother.
"That is exactly why I am here, Father..." I said turning to him. "We can't trust the Widow. If my status can be elevated, maybe I can convince him to release you or lessen your punishment in a way." My father's eyes darkened and I knew he was about to exhibit his stubborn trait.
"Father please," I quickly cut in before he would reprimand me totally. "We don't know this woman. We don't even know where she came from or what she wants. I still think that we can't trust her." "And you think waiting to die is a better option?" My mother cried out.
"No, Mom, no! I am working on it. I just need time to think of a perfect plan. And that is all I ask. That you give me a chance to think of a better option..."
My father clicked his tongue and pushed the cell in anger.
"You are such a silly little girl! The widow was right about you!" He growled and my heart skipped a beat. "The more time you spend with that stupid boy, the more you forget who you are!"
"But father I haven't forgotten! I know who I am and I will not forget you!" I retorted the barrier of tears in my eyes breaking free as the emotions swirled inside me.
As I looked into his angered eyes, it finally dawned on me what the widow wanted.
"You shouldn't even be listening to that woman! She is manipulating you! She is a prisoner herself and getting you in trouble will set her free! Can't you see what she is doing?"
"I don't care about what she is doing? I only care about getting out of here alive!" My father growled and returned to grip the cell bars with such menace, I took an unconscious step back. "If this plan of hers is going to get me out of here, then I will do it! If you think you have a better plan, then your time starts now, Violet!"
He moved away from the bars and went further down their cell, leaving behind completely broken.
"Mom," I cried, returning my attention to her. "Please try to convince Dad. We can't trust that woman. I know he is scared... I know how bad it is here but I am trying... I am trying and I will replace a way. I promise."
