The Lycan Series
The Lycan King’s Breeder Chapter 12

Avalyn's POV

A few days had gone by since I had been brought to my room -four days to be exact. Just as Greg had promised, I had been transported to the new room immediately after the first week ended.

The first moment I stepped into it, I was in utter shock over how beautiful it was and the fact that Willow wanted me to stay there. Well, not like she asked me herself, I hadn't even seen her since the day she left the recovering room I was first placed in. It dawned on me that I was getting really close to the deadline I was given, in a few days I would be expected to share the Lycan king's bed and produce him an heir.

I wondered what he'd look like... Since I still hadn't had the pleasure of meeting him.

All the tales I'd heard about him plagued my mind. If he was as ruthless as people made him out to be, then I was so sure after they were done with me, I was a goner. There would be no use for me anymore after they got what they wanted -these thoughts filled me with dread.

Mrs. Jacobson was right, all the stories I'd heard at school about what their type did to girls... were all true. I would become one of those girls very soon, I would be killed once I had served my purpose.

Shaking my head, I tried to brush off the thoughts. I should be happy that I still hadn't faced that scary man, but deep down I knew I couldn't stall forever. We would have to do this eventually. "Avalyn!"

Knocking at the door drew my attention, as I stood up from the small chair in the room, Lydia entered with a small sack in her hand.

"Good morning my love!" Her chirpy voice called out in greetings. "I just wanted to come to make sure Dawn brought your breakfast already." She stared at the almost still-full tray of food on my bed. She sighed and walked over to it. "Do you not like toast? I can ask Dawn to bring you something else."

She was worried about me, I could tell. Not because I was their king's breeder, but because she truly treated me as a friend. Lydia and I had grown so much closer in the eleven days of my being here. As she also promised, she would spend the whole day with Dawn and me in my new room, only leaving us when she had to attend to an injured patient. Honestly, both of them were what made this place tolerable for me.

"It's all right Lydia. The toasts were tasty." I smiled at her.

"I just didn't have a large appetite this morning... sorry." Even if I was still hesitant around this place, I had Lydia and Dawn to make me feel not so afraid anymore.

"You've got to stop saying 'sorry' all the time, miss!" She raised her voice intentionally and pretended to be scolding me. Then a huge smile appeared on her face and I could tell she had something for me. Lydia always found a way to cheer me up.

"Oh, and Greg will also be coming by soon to fetch you. Not sure why, but I was instructed to let you know he was coming."

I nodded.

Greg had been checking up on me almost every day, and I had gotten used to his visits. He usually stayed far enough away from me to make me feel comfortable. It was hard to believe that the second in command to the southern ridge pack was a well-mannered gentleman -even if in the true sense he was only a monster.

"Look what I got here." She whipped out the sack and I could see it was filled with nice clothes. "Come on, try them out for me."

I stared at her in confusion.

I could tell she was excited about this 'dress up,' but I was a bit curious and confused. When Greg came to visit me, he didn't even need to notify me ahead of time, I was always in my room.

So why did Lydia come to dress me up -unless they wanted me to meet with someone important?

...Like their king?

Chills ran down my spine at the thought.

No. I wasn't ready.

It couldn't be ready. Willow gave us more time until I was ready. I looked at Lydia, she must have noticed the panic on my face because she immediately threw her hands around me in a tight hug.

"I know it isn't my place, Avalyn... but being a breeder is not necessarily a bad thing. You will be giving life to the next alpha of this pack and a part of you will live on here forever."

"....I know," I replied, still unsure of it all. I knew Lydia was just trying to make me feel better, but it didn't help. This wasn't what I wanted in life, I wanted to be free, not a breeder!

As our conversation drawled on, I finished changing into a simple dress, it was nice and comfortable and it fits me just right. It seriously had to be the only decent clothing I'd ever worn in my entire life. "Just think about it, okay? And don't worry about this," Lydia gestured to the tray of food, "I'll get Dawn to come to take it out," she said standing up.

Nodding my head, I watched as she gave me a reassuring smile. Then she walked to the door and disappeared from the room.

The longer I waited alone in that room, the more my nerves got to me. I paced the floor of the lavish room and admired the beautiful view of the outside world from my window, anything to distract myself.

The vast green surrounding us would bring tranquillity to any anxious soul. Would there ever be a day I would run free and feel the soft grass under my bare feet?

"Avalyn!"

Greg's voice from behind me made my breath hitch, I hadn't even noticed him open the door. Slowly turning around, I saw him standing in the open doorway.

I didn't realize so much time had gone by already and as my eyes settled on him, my heart started racing.

"Are you ready?"

Of course not! I didn't know where he was taking me, so how the hell did I want to be ready?

"Uhm... yes, I guess so." I stuttered as my feet began moving forward.

I was bought by the southern ridge pack, but so far, they hadn't done anything but nurse me back to health. Lydia and Dawn both tried their best to make me feel at home, and even Greg, stern as he was -had been respectful toward me, giving me as much personal space as possible. Was this the day all of that changed?

I left a trail of nerves and anxiety as I followed him down the corridor until we arrived at two large black wooden doors. He paused and stared at me, nodding his head slightly.

As he pulled the doors open, I felt my body freeze at the sharp icy gaze of two pairs of crystal blue eyes. Staring back at me was the mate of the Lycan king. Their queen. I didn't know if I felt relieved or worse.

It took me a few seconds for my rigid body to lose some of its tension, but that didn't stop the chills that travelled through my spine.

"Come on in Avalyn." Her silky smooth voice called, dragging me out of my daze.

I looked back at Greg, who only nodded in encouragement, gesturing for me to go inside. I audibly gulped and took one step into the room, immediately I did, the doors were shut behind me, trapping me alone with her.

"Don't worry, Greg is going to come to get you once we're done," she said, offering me a maniacal smile. She turned around and started slowly pacing the large room.

"Uhm, wh-why did you... why did you call for me?" I dared to ask. I didn't want to say anything that would piss this woman off, but I had to understand the reason she'd asked for me.

"Have you ever thought of what the world would be like if the werewolves hadn't taken over?" She asked, taking me by complete surprise.

"What?" I stared at her in complete confusion but she continued talking, not sparing me a glance.

"Do you ever sit and think of how pathetic your lives would have remained if we hadn't seized control of your leadership?" Only this time did she turn around to look me in the eye.

"We have made the world so perfect for you little humans, the least you can do is be appreciative." She growled. Her calm demeanour took a complete one-eighty as she glared daggers at me.

I gulped and took a step back. The hairs at the back of my neck stood erect, every sense in my brain was telling me to flee, that I was in the presence of danger, but I couldn't will my body to move. I couldn't even speak.

"Three days is all you have until you're ready to give me what I want Avalyn." She growled, her voice that had earlier been silky and smooth, filled me with dread. This woman was far more dangerous than I had given her credit for. Something about the way she was looking me up and down set my nerves on edge.

"And if you refuse, or try something stupid..." She paused. Her once blue eyes suddenly turned into an intense yellow, her pupils dilating slightly. I watched as fangs began to protrude from her canines.

It took everything I had to not cower at her feet.

"I'm sure you have one or two ideas about how you're going to end up," She said.

I understood the underlying threat behind her words. I nodded in understanding as she smiled like we were having a friendly conversation.

Like she hadn't just threatened to kill me if I didn't give her what she wanted.

"Beta!" She suddenly called making me jerk back to reality. I stood perfectly still with my shoulders raised in a tense manner. I feared if I moved them they would break apart just like my heart.

"Yes my Queen," Greg said bowing in respect, waiting for my order.

"Please take Avalyn back to her room now. We've had a good chat and I'm sure she understands now what must be done," Willow said, smiling sweetly at me.

I was shocked at how she could switch personalities so fast. No one would believe she almost devoured me a second ago.

Greg bowed once more to Willow and gestured for me to follow him.

I was dazed and scared, but I eventually turned around and followed him out of the room. We walked quietly to the room they had given to me and I noticed how he kept throwing me worried glances but there was nothing I could do.

As we reached the room, Lydia and Dawn welcomed me but I had no strength to speak. My heart was breaking apart. My life was ending, what could I do?

I moved like a Zombie and sat quietly on the bed. Lydia and Dawn rushed to join me on the bed.

"Avalyn, are you okay? What did she say?" They asked me and I turned to look at them like they spoke in a language I couldn't understand.

"I don't want to do this..." I whispered as tears rushed out of my eyes.
