The Lycan Series
Bullied By The Lycan King Chapter 55

Violet's POV

As soon as Axel left the room, I got up and moved to his wardrobe to pick out a shirt and track pants.

There was no way I was going to stay in here when I had investigations to do as well.

I changed into the new clothes and packed my hair up on my head then slipped out of the room. Luckily for me, Emily wasn't lurking around the corridors and most of the guards were out in the field, securing the premises or training for the impending war. I took the opportunity and I made my way to the dungeon as fast as I could without attracting attention to myself.

As I got to the entrance, I was about to get in when a deep voice stopped me.

"Excuse me, where are you going?" The voice said.

I tightened my fists in irritation. Why was he even here when everyone else was out trying to protect their land?

I thought of attacking him in this direction but there was no way I could get what I wanted in the end, I had to play nice.

So I took a deep breath to calm my nerves and I plastered a fake smile on my face before turning to face the speaker.

"Hi!" I chirped as I came face to face with a very tall and bulky-looking guard that I have never seen before in all my visits to the dungeon.

"You are not allowed to be here," he growled without responding to my greeting.

I passed my tongue over my lip as my mind took the chance to think of a good excuse to give to him.

"I am actually here because, Axel -the king, asked me to come to check on my parents," I said, after stalling for long enough. "You know how unsafe the whole place is.... I needed to be sure that they were safe, so he said I could come down here..."

At the end of my little cooked-up speech, I felt good about myself for coming up with such an authentic lie in such a short time.

But the huge guard didn't look like he believed me. He stared at me from head to toe with a tight frown that never faltered.

Seconds were slowly passing and then he moved his brows. For a second, I thought he was going to step away but he moved toward the door and blocked the entrance totally.

"I have orders from the King's aunt, the Luna of the lands up north, Luna Emily and she has instructed that you are to be kept out of the dungeon at all times," he said and I felt a nut in my head turn loose.

"What?" I hissed before I could stop myself. "Emily said this?"

When did Emily even get the time to instruct a guard to come to stop me? How did she know I was coming here? What was this woman's problem?

Who was I going to speak to my father and ask him about this new threat to the werewolves?

Damnit!

But even as the thoughts flew through my head, I refused to give up. There had to be something I could do. I couldn't give up yet.

"Listen... I am sorry but I must talk to them. Can you please let me in, I promise I wouldn't stay for long and nobody would have to know. Please," I begged him with the best smile on my face. He gave me that strict stare again before turning his eyes away.

"I am afraid, I can't help you. Go back to your chambers," he growled softly.

With the way he had turned his face, I knew I had nothing else to do but to listen to him.

My anger then returned to Emily. She was the reason I couldn't go forward with my plan and gather more Intel. Who knew, maybe if I got enough information, I could help them! But no, she had to ruin all my plans!

Frustrated, I started heading back to the upper levels but a strange figure at the center of the corridor made me pause.

My eyes narrowed and I tried to pick out who it was even with the dim lighting. I didn't have to strain my eyes for much longer as the person soon came into the light.

My brows raised as I recognized the long flowing robes approaching me.

"I am presuming the new guard has refused you entrance to the dungeon, yes?" The Widow asked in that classical voice of hers as soon as she got to me.

"How did you leave your cell?" I asked instead, totally ignoring her question.

She waved her long-robed hands in the air and walked past me; "Come, I'll help you get through," she said, also ignoring my question.

A frown sat on my face as I tried to put the pieces together. But nothing made sense.

Maybe she sneaked out, but even if that was the case, how could she be confident that she could get us through the Stony guard at the door?

In the end, I shook my head and cleared out my doubts. Then I followed behind her nonetheless. She already broke a major rule by appearing down here, it shouldn't be surprising for her to break the next one as well.

The widow waltzed her way to the bulky guard as if she was the ruling queen around here and everyone had to bow to her.

As she got in front of him, she stopped and pulled out a large wad of money from her dark veil and held it to the man.

She tilted her head to the side and I heard her clear her voice once before her voice filled the space around us once again.

"Your daughter has a rare illness that can only be cured with a plant that grows in my pack. Take this wad of money, there is a phone number in the envelope as well, call the number and your daughter will be fine. Then, call me for more deals."

My brows were almost touching my hairlines by the time the willow finished speaking and I watched the guard contemplate on what to do.

I couldn't tell which was more surprising now. The fact that she had this information about him or the fact that he looked like he was considering it...

I could have easily thought she made it all up but the look on the guard told me otherwise. She wasn't bluffing.

The guard looked at the wad of money hesitantly then he looked around him.

"Do not worry, I made sure everyone in this corridor got something. No one would care that you are joining the team of rich soldiers as well," the Widow sang.

It was then it also occurred to me that it had been too easy for me to get down here in the first place. I did think that they were probably training or securing the place but what sort of security would they be doing if they left the inside unguarded? Surely, the widow must have paid them all.

The bulky guard quickly took the wad of money and stepped away from the entrance.

"Make it sharp, Luna Emily might come to check on me," he said.

The widow waved her hands to his face and waltzed inside.

"Do not worry... We will be gone before she even realizes it," she said and I couldn't help but feel the change in her voice.

And this told me one thing-the widow definitely had a history with Emily and for the first time since I met her, we were finally agreeing on something.

I walked briskly into the dungeon and went to my parents.

My father was already at the bars by the time I got there as if he had been expecting me... But my eyes moved to the woman in front of me and I realized that he hadn't been waiting for me but the widow.

"Everything is in place. All that is left is an attack on the child king and we will be victorious," the widow said to my father.

I looked between the two of them and I felt something ache in my heart.

"What's going on?" I asked, swiping my head around to look at all of them.

My father's eyes darkened and my mother lowered hers to the floor.

The widow, on the other hand, bobbed her veiled head and then turned to me.

"It is time, Violet," she said.

Her response didn't solve the confusion within me. I blinked my eyes and turned to give all my attention to her.

"Time for what? What are you talking about?"

"It is time for you to complete your end of the bargain child."

The ache in my heart seemed to intensify and I suddenly started feeling lightheaded.

I held the bars tightly and turned to look at my parents. They seemed to know exactly what she was going on about.

"It is time you kill the child king."
