The Lycan Series -
Bullied By The Lycan King Chapter 58
Axel's POV
I was working on the last of the papers on my desk, eager to finish with it so I could go back to Violet.
There were so many emotions between us that I needed to understand. It only made sense when she was in my arms.
Now that we were apart, thinking about it only increased the desire in my wolf. It wanted her every second of the day even though our union wasn't something I should be wanting. I couldn't help it.
I tried denying it when I found her in that market. I tried fighting it when I brought her here but the moment I got a taste of her sweet body, I knew it was too late to stop the feelings.
But there was just so much going on, I couldn't stop for a second to define what exactly it was.
My kingdom was under attack. Some of my men thought I was not being hard enough on the human slaves. They were forgetting that my mother was one of them. She was human and the least I could do to honour her memory was to be fair to her kind -at least to those who deserved it.
But some of the people I ruled didn't understand this. They thought I was being weak.
That was why Fergus had dared do what he did and now he and Kasper joined forces with a stranger just to overtake me.
My hands turned into fists as I read their letters, requesting that I changed the laws or surrendered to them.
If they thought that I, the son of Talon the Dark, would surrender to a bunch of cowards, they were truly delusional if they thought they could win this...
I was going to fish them out one after the other like rats and slaughter them. Then I would hang their bodies at the crossroad between the capital and the other lands. This way, everyone would know that no one dared a Lycan and lived to tell the story. Only when I had settled this would I be able to figure out what I could do with Violet.
A knock at the door pulled me out of my thoughts and I raised my head just as it opened to replace Aunt Emily and she wasn't alone.
My brows furrowed as soon as I noticed this. Violet was with her.
"I asked you to stay in the room, why are you out?" I asked.
She blinked her eyes to the ground and Aunt Emily threw her a strange look. I could tell there was tension between them and I wondered what could have happened.
Did they fight? They seemed to be getting along earlier what could have happened?
Aunt Emily motioned to the chair as they got closer and they settled into the chairs in front of me.
The air in the room shifted and I realised that something was wrong.
"Violet, what's wrong? Why aren't you saying anything?" I growled.
She looked at me with parted lips but as if she just got reminded of Aunt Emily's presence, she sealed her lips at once.
"Forget Violet for now. There is a different problem, Axel. Who the f**k is the Widow?" Aunt Emily asked and my eyes turned to her.
"Is she the reason Violet is here?" I asked instead.
Aunt Emily rolled her eyes and shifted closer to the edge of her chair; "Violet is here for a lot of reasons but first I need to know who the f**k this widow woman is because I have proved that she is plotting on killing you..."
My brows raised as her words settled in my ears and if not for the awkwardness already in the room, I was going to laugh it off as one of her jokes.
"The Widow is just a clown that thought she could take over Uncle Jared's pack for a while. She is here on probation. She wouldn't dare try to plot against me," I explained to her with confidence.
Yet the emotions in Aunt Emily's eyes didn't change as she calmly pulled out her phone from her pocket and scrolled through it, obviously searching for something.
When she found it, she placed it on the table and pushed it toward me.
It started playing a recording and the confidence I was feeling a second ago vanished.
The widow wanted me dead. I heard the entire conversation from her talk with Violet and Violet's parents.
"If you refuse to do it, Savannah will happily take up the job and you will go down with him!" The widow's voice filled the tense air in my office and I snapped my eyes to Violet.
I was shocked beyond boundaries. I never could have imagined a woman like a widow could plan such a thing.
Rage suddenly erupted within me and my claws pushed out of my fingers as I became enveloped with the hunger to tear through her.
Greg had warned me about the widow but I didn't listen and now the outcome was irritating.
"How long has she been asking you to do this? It is obvious from your conversation that this has happened before..." I growled, growing livid.
Violet swallowed hard and then she nodded. "Yes, it -it has happened before..."
Her answer only angered me further; "And you didn't think to tell anyone, until now?"
"I told beta Greg and Hilda about it," Violet replied in a small voice.
My eyes almost popped as I realised I have been the only one in the dark for a long time now.
"But you didn't tell me. Why?" If everyone thought it was a good idea to keep such information from me, I didn't expect Violet to do the same. But it was all going to end. The Widow's terror would end tonight.
Before Violet could respond, I slapped my hands on the desk and got on my feet at once.
But just as I moved around the table and to leave the room, Aunt Emily jumped to her feet and stopped me.
"Axel, where the fuck are you going? We need to discuss this and think of a good plan. Blind reactions won't get us anywhere," she said.
"Discuss?" I growled. "There is a fucking traitor under my roof and you ask me to wait and discuss?"
"The traitors have been under your fucking roof for a much longer period!" She snapped and my heart froze.
"Didn't you hear the name Savannah being mentioned? And if I remember, you lost one of your concubines a couple of weeks ago mysteriously. Who did you kill then? No one!" Aunt Emily yelled in my face.
I felt my wolf twist within me as her words drowned my anger in shame. How could I not have seen all of these things happening under my nose?
"Aunt, I can't let them continue living. I need to deal with all of them," I retorted. "I admit I didn't realise it at the time but I know now. This means I should act now."
"This is the reason why Greg didn't fucking tell you a thing," Aunt Emily snapped.
"You are just like your father! Too stubborn for your own good!" She added and I sealed my mouth.
"This has nothing to do with my father's Aunt. I need to deal with them!" I hissed.
"And you will fucking deal with them but not by killing them. We need to know what their master plan is. We need her arrested and questioned."
Violet became extremely quiet throughout the exchange between Aunt Emily and me. As much as I wanted to probe her, I knew it wasn't the right time.
"Fine, let's go get her then," I said.
Aunt Emily nodded at me and then signalled to Violet to follow behind us.
My wolf became restless, not even because of the issue in my hands or where we were headed but because of Violet. We were going to meet a criminal who was well versed in that act to hide under my nose. It was dangerous to take her along. "Violet, stay. Aunt Emily and I will handle this," I growled.
Aunt Emily stopped walking. She turned a stern eye at me and then moved it to Violet.
"I know you are only trying to protect her but trust me, she is safer with us than alone. In case you didn't realise, Violet decided to risk her parent's life and she took your side. The widow and her accomplices will f*****g target her." Both Violet and I sharply turned to stare at Aunt Emily as if we both couldn't believe our ears.
My insides warmed at the very thought of Violet taking my side when she wasn't obligated to -and she did that at the expense of her parent's life.
"Come on, let's go replace this woman," Aunt Emily said, drawing me out of my thoughts.
My anger towards the widow suddenly returned and I marched out of the office towards her detention.
But as we got there, we met the door wide open and we didn't have to step inside before I realised that she had escaped.
