The Lycan Series -
Bullied By The Lycan King Chapter 64
Axel's POV
Ever since the first day I met Violet in her father's castle, I had always felt a pull between us. It was like an invisible string tied between us that no matter how far I tried to run, it always found me and pulled me back. When I found her a couple of months ago in Aaliyah's shed, the connection had even grown stronger and as much as I tried to avoid her, I failed miserably.
Now that my wolf had recognized her, I understood what that pull was. It was our bond calling for me but I was too stubborn to see it.
My eyes moved to hers and I could finally see it. Not only that, I could feel it too. A pull too strong to exist between a Lycan and a human, yet it was there.
Her beautiful green eyes stared back at me with so much affection and love in them, that I felt butterflies erupt within me and curl around in a frenzy.
I knew what she wanted. I knew what she needed to hear. It was an assurance that what I had blurted out wasn't just a mere word but I truly meant it.
But I couldn't give her that assurance yet. Not when war was looming and my people were on the verge of losing their lives because they thought I had a weak spot for humans.
Publicly accepting Violet, would mean only adding to the trouble with no solution.
Unable to do otherwise, I pulled her into my chest and hugged her. I wished I could say everything I felt but I hoped my actions were louder.
"Wait for me Violet," I whispered to her. "We start the attack today... I need you to wait for me," I repeated.
She nodded, a subtle move of her head as she held me back just as tightly as I held her.
My wolf stirred wanting to remain in this position forever but I had men waiting outside for me. With one more squeeze of her soft body, I pulled away from her and got off the bed.
Quickly, I slipped my clothes back on and grabbed the fighting gears I had come for then I exited the room.
My wolf was on edge, high with our bond and determination. I had to end this uproar once and for all so, I could return to Violet.
I was heading out to the troupes waiting outside but I changed my direction to the concubines section.
Savannah had disappeared just like Willow but Thalia was still in the mansion.
Since my wolf had chosen who it wanted, there was no point in keeping her here. Besides, for all I knew she could also be an accomplice and had only cooked up lies to feed Greg during her questioning.
The scent of the flowers in their corridor had always helped to calm my nerves but today, it did nothing. I could still feel my blood coursing through me and my claws impatiently waiting to slice through anyone who dared to stand in my way. As I got to her room, I pushed the door open at once and stepped in.
Thalia was on the bed and the abrupt manner with which I got into the room made her jump to a sitting position.
"My King..." She squeaked with eyes that didn't know what to focus on.
Thalia was a beautiful girl but as I stared at her, I realized the only reason why I brought her to my city to be my concubine was because her looks reminded me of Violet.
But she was only a pale comparison and now that I had the real deal, I didn't need her anymore.
"Do you want me, my king?" She asked with her eyes finally deciding to settle on the floor.
Her question raised my brows. This was another thing she lacked that Violet had. Thalia lacked courage and intelligence.
How could she think I would want her body at a time like this?
"I do not want you, Thalia. In fact, I came to inform you that I would no longer be needing your services," I said in a stern and stoic voice.
She let out a gasp and her pale eyes raised to meet mine.
"Why? I-I didn't do anything wrong... It was Savannah who had-" she started to explain but I instantly raised my hand to stop her.
"I am not here to listen to explanations. I only came to inform you of my decision personally considering your status," I said, before turning away from her.
I didn't have time to listen to her cry or explain to me what she thought she deserved. I had gotten them to breed an heir for me but none of them could fulfil it. They all failed.
As I stepped out of her room, I met Aunt Emily standing outside with a smug smile on her face.
"Finally, some law and fucking order," she beamed at me.
My eyes narrowed at her comment, comprehending that she must have heard everything I said in there.
"It is not a very royal act for a Luna to eavesdrop, Aunt," I said with a shake of my head.
She waved the comment off as a soft chuckle escaped her lips. "You are stubbornly going to war, I fucking refused. The least I can fucking do is make sure that I listen in on all your conversations."
My head snapped in her direction at her response and my eyes dimmed. There was absolutely no sense in what she had just said but I didn't want to argue with her.
"Please take care of yourself, Aunt," I said as I walked past her and went to the exit.
I joined my men outside and we began getting into the vehicles in troupes.
"Start heading out," I told the driver as soon as everyone had settled but Greg held my shoulder and shook his head.
"Let the men head out first. You can't be at the head. What if there is an ambush?" He asked in a low voice.
Of course, if there was an ambush, it wouldn't matter where I was positioned, if they planned it properly, I would still be hurt but I had argued more than enough times with him. So I only nodded my head at his request. "Do as he says, let the others head out first," I told the driver, then settled back in my seat, building up the adrenaline.
The ride was silent and my mind remained focused on our target. We had to end Fergus and then I would replace Willow.
She would pay for all the crimes my father couldn't punish her for.
In about forty minutes we were a couple of meters away from the cave where Aaliyah had informed us that they were hiding.
"Call the men, let's stop here. We will move on foot from here," I said to Greg and immediately he took his phone and started giving out the orders to them.
The next couple of minutes that followed we were moving cautiously through the trees, gradually nearing the enemy line.
My blood was pumping faster as my wolf jumped around eager to begin the attack but I controlled it.
My enemies weren't stupid, they knew exactly what they were doing and if I gave in to my wolf, the size alone would notify my enemies of our arrival.
The sound of boots on the forest ground and the constant slapping of trees as we advanced became soothing sounds to my ears fueling my own determination to get there as soon as possible and end it all.
We were beginning to see the peak of the cave and rather than the excitement I expected to feel from having anticipated it for so long, a strange dark feeling clutched my heart.
I held my hand out to stop the men from moving as I studied the cleared-out area ahead of us.
"Why did we stop? What is happening?"Greg asked as he came to stand before me.
I pointed out to the cleared land ahead of us and moved my fingers around to the mouth of the cave.
"There are no guards and the clearing is too wide. Something is not right," I told him.
Even as I spoke my eyes remained fixed ahead of us as I tried to think of what they could prepare for us.
"I'll send two scouts. Let's wait here," Greg said and I agreed with him.
"Let them be very careful. I don't trust Fergus," I said to him.
The beat of my heart took up a strange rhythm. It was now becoming very clear that it wasn't just a hunch. Something was really not right.
Greg moved away from me to do what we had agreed. In the next minutes that followed, I watched as the trees at the far side of us shook slightly.
To an ordinary eye, it could be mistaken as a breeze but I knew that it was my men heading in there.
Soon after they started returning following the same pattern and when they appeared before Greg and I, they looked wild and confused.
"There is no one in the cave, my King," they said and my heart went cold.
