The Lycan Series -
The Lycan King’s Breeder Chapter 22
Greg's
POV
*Two Days Earlier*
I stood in front of Avalyn's closed door and took a deep breath. A sigh left my lips as I looked up to the ceiling, trying to clear my head. Now I had to go see Talon and Willow -and I hated to deliver bad news.
Turning from Avalyn's room, I made my way down the stairs, toward the main floor of the Palace where the Alpha's chamber was located. I knew Talon had had meetings all morning because I had attended a few of them myself. I knocked on the door and waited for either one of them to answer.
"Come in!"
Talon's form voice sounded preoccupied, but as I entered he looked up at me. His expression turned from irritated to inquisitive.
"Greg! You have news of the girl?" Willow's voice rang out from behind me. I turned around to see her lying on the bed, wrapped up in the silky sheets. I hadn't even noticed her when I walked in.
"Yes Luna, I do." Hesitating for a moment, I stepped forward and handed her the paper I had gotten from Lydia.
She looked over it for a second before her blue eyes narrowed to slits.
"She isn't pregnant?" Willow asked slowly.
I watched as her calm demeanor slowly vanished, the muscles on her forehead twitched slightly as her face grew into a scowl.
"No, she isn't," I replied reluctantly. I was never really fond of Willow, I had never once been. I respected her as my best friend's mate, as the pack's Luna but that was pretty much it.
At this point, Talon had walked over to her and fished the paper from her hands, staring down at it himself. He said nothing, he just looked down at the piece of paper in his hand.
"We paid for a breeder and she isn't even pregnant!" Willow hissed, getting up from the bed. "What the hell are we supposed to do with a girl that can't f*****g conceive?" She snarled harshly, venom dripping from her voice.
She was forgetting she couldn't conceive herself...
"It was one time, Willow." I dared challenge, looking up at Talon who still had his eyes fixed on the piece of paper in his hand.
"Excuse me, Beta?" Willow growled, glaring daggers at me.
If I hadn't already witnessed Talon's signature cold glare, I would have been intimidated by the woman glaring at me right now. I knew calling her by her name in this situation pissed her off, but she was overreacting plus for all I knew she was barren! Talon had been fucking the hell out of her since their mating ceremony and she hadn't produced one pup! She had no right screaming about Avalyn like she was!
"Alpha didn't perform the act during the best time for the girl to conceive." I cringed out. "They had to wait until after her first time to get a sense of when she would be ready." I tried my best to explain what Lydia had said to me.
I watched as she slowly paced back and forth, deep in thought. A long sigh left her as she pinched the bridge of her nose. "So what you mean to say, is that Talon has to keep sleeping with her?" She spat, emphasizing on the word 'her' as it burned her. "Yes, Lydia said that Avalyn is fertile and able to conceive. Alpha will just have to keep trying till she gets pregnant," I said looking over at Talon who perked up a little at my words... strange.
He'd been quiet this entire time. I wondered what was wrong with him.
"This is the last thing Talon needs to worry about on top of everything else going on!" Willow yelled in frustration. I could tell she was even more affected by the news than Talon was.
"I know. But the good thing is that at least now we have a better time frame." I replied, trying to make her less angry about the situation.
This only seemed to anger her even more though, as she threw another glare my way. "If you think that makes it better, Beta, then you're-"
"ENOUGH!" Talon's deep voice bellowed out, cutting her off.
There was a moment of silence between us all as Talon took a seat in his chair and stared out the window. "How did Avalyn take the news?" He asked, voice devoid of any emotions, but I could still make out a tinge of -worry? "Uhm..." I started, confusion clouding my brain.
Had I really heard what I just thought I heard? Was he actually -concerned?
I cleared my throat and tried to hide the surprise I felt. "She was broken about it, she cried. She looked so defeated and asked to go back to her room."
'And apologized for something that was not her fault. I failed to add.
I watched Talon carefully after relaying the information to him. I wasn't particularly sure why he wanted to know what Avalyn's reaction was, but I had known him for a long time to know that something was bothering him, something he wasn't sharing. Something I had to ask him about later...
"Useless, that's what she is! She can't even perform her duties. And we paid good money for her too!" Willow snarled.
I stared at her in disbelief. Did she really not realize how she had 'paid good money' for Avalyn to perform a duty that even she couldn't? I tried so hard not to chuckle.
