The Lycan Series
The Lycan King’s Breeder Chapter 6

Avalyn's

POV

I dragged my battered body up the stairs and into my room. All the while trying to control the tears streaming down my face.

This was it for me. My normal life as I had known it was over.

Starting today, I was going to belong to a 'pack' I knew nothing about, the outcast. I had no idea what it even entailed to be in a pack. All my life, I'd been living like a human, going to school and doing mundane things. I had no idea what I was going to be used for. Were they buying me as a pet?

I hoped this was the case because if they were going to feed on me, I could as well cry myself to death right now.

Making my way inside the bathroom, I couldn't stop the tears from rolling down my cheeks as I crawled on both hands and knees into the shower cubicle and turned it on. The warm water cascading down my body was a welcome relief from the pain and soreness traveling through my muscles.

I tried to be quiet as I cleaned myself and as fast as I could. The last thing I needed was to anger my father and stepmother before their guests arrived.

Turning off the warm water when I was done, I dried myself with a towel and made my way into the small bedroom that I had the privilege of calling mine.

I made my way to the mirror that stood beside my bed and looked into it. In the reflection, I could see the red marks around my face. My skin was bruised and scarred from years of abuse. My vibrant green eyes were slightly red from all the crying. I looked like me... yet I didn't. I only saw a pitiful girl in the mirror.

Why did this have to happen to me? What did I ever do to deserve to be treated like this?

I was brought back to the present when I heard three hard bangs on my door.

"Hurry up and get out of there Avalyn, we don't have all day!" I heard the shrill voice of my stepmother on the other side of the door.

I hurriedly opened my closet and brought out the first dress my hand fell upon. I wasted no time in pulling the material over my head, zipped up the back, and fixed my hair as much as I could.

Taking a deep breath, I tried to still my shaking hands. Hopefully, this wouldn't be too bad. Everything would go smoothly and I'd finally be free from torment.

It wasn't even like I had much to pack, the only clothing I had were the few hand-me-downs that had been passed down to me from my next-door neighbor, an old leggings, and a few band t-shirts I had gotten from the school's lost and found, they weren't even enough to fill my small suitcase.

I was truly a sorry sight.

"I'm ready," I said. My word is barely audible as I opened up my bedroom door. My stepmother was waiting in the hallway with a scowl on her face.

"It's about damn time," She said as she motioned me forward with her long manicured nails.

Picking up my bag, I walked towards the stairs, making sure to keep a small distance between me and my step mum. Between the dimly lit fireplace at the end of the stairs, were my father and a man I couldn't quite make out.

He was very tall and the feeling he gave out intimidated me.

Next to the man, stood two other figures, cloaked in the shadows. They didn't move, if I didn't know they were people, I'd have mistaken them for statues, as all I could see were the silhouette of the figures.

As I took in the scene, I heard my father's light-hearted tune as he showered me with praise to look good in the presence of his guests. "Doesn't she look beautiful? She was taking her time making sure she looked perfect for your arrival Mr. Greg."

The man in front of me didn't seem to care what my father had to say. His eyes did not leave mine from the moment he laid them on me.

"Why does she have bruises on her face?" Mr. Greg's voice was deep and sent shivers down my spine, setting my nerves on edge.

"Oh you know girls of these days, she fell down the stairs earlier wearing those beautiful heels for you. Didn't you Avalyn? Hmm?" My father lied through his teeth, giving me a stern glare.

Was he expecting me to lie to these people?

"I... oh-oh yes. I did... I fell down the stairs, my apologies." I stuttered before looking back at the man whose expression remained stoic. Hoping and praying to God that he believed the made-up lie because my father would definitely kill me if his transaction failed. "Stairs... was it?" Mr. Greg asked unimpressed. He had one thick eyebrow raised and I swallowed in fear.

He didn't seem to believe the made-up story we were telling. And honestly, I didn't think I would believe it either. It all sounded like a load of bullshit.

"Yes, the stairs... why don't we all go take our seats, there's still a lot to be discussed," My father hurriedly said, trying to change the conversation but Mr. Greg paid him no mind.

"No! We don't need further discussion. We already said all there was to talk about over the phone," Mr. Greg hissed.

"Oh but stay for a drink, I'm sure you and your companions must be very thirsty." My father suggested.

"We will not be staying for drinks with humans. We came on business matters concerning our king. We shall be taking our leave now," Mr. Greg said, irritation dripping from his tone.

I stared at him in confusion. He wasn't the king? Then who was he? The king's second or the prince?

He then nodded at me, gesturing for me to come closer.

"Better behave yourself, you little shit." My stepmother growled into my ear, startling me.

I let out a loud help as I stumbled forward, losing my balance, but before I could come tumbling down the stairs, Mr. Greg had somehow made his way up the stairs, with otherworldly speed, and caught me by the arm. Before I could make sense of what was happening, he retracted his hands slowly, made sure I had regained my balance, gave me a firm nod, and released me.

Did he save me?

"Uhm... th... thank you." I managed to offer him a small smile.

"It's all right, Miss Avalyn." He replied, face devoid of any emotion but I could tell from his tone that he meant no harm. That was if werewolves could be associated with the word harmless...

Thud!

I heard the crackling noise followed by my stepmother's scream. What the hell was going on? Thud!

I heard the crackling noise followed by my stepmother's scream. What the hell was going on?

I turned around only to see one of the dark figures from earlier now by the stairs. Looking at them from a closer distance, I could tell that they were both females.

One of them had their hands wrapped around my stepmother's collar, gripping it so tight, I was sure she was cutting off her air supply. I could only stare at them dumbfounded as my stepmother struggled to breathe.

I heard another set of screams coming from my father, "Beta! Please stop this! She's hurting my wife!" He screamed trying to get up the stairs but the other woman from earlier blocked his only way up, daring him to fight her.

I didn't know what was going on, but I could only just watch in shock as it kept happening.

"The same way you and your wife have been hurting the poor girl? Hmm?" Mr. Greg, whom I'd just learned was the beta to the alpha king, I would be sold to, said.

"She called her a little shit. I heard her say it. She's our king's property now and is not to be insulted." The woman holding my stepmother growled.

Looking closely at her now, I could notice the change in her appearance. Her eyes had grown darker, far darker than they had been before. And her canines were beginning to extend into sharp fangs. -just like the books had described them. I might have never followed Mrs. Jacobson's class but I had a fair knowledge of the werewolves.

I bit back my tongue and let out a whimper, I was mortified. I looked towards Mr. Greg, not sure if I should say something to get him to stop her or not... "Stop!" Mr. Greg suddenly commanded.

It made the woman stop momentarily, waiting for further orders that didn't come. He turned straight to me and offered me his hands. I took it gingerly.

"Control your wife next time Peter. You pesky humans never learn." And with that, he headed down the stairs with me following closely behind.

My father ran up the stairs immediately and cradled his wife in his arms, running his hands through her back like it would stop the huge coughing fit she was experiencing. "I am terribly sorry for the trouble Beta. Trust me, we want no trouble." "Very well then. We shall take our leave now," Mr. Greg announced loudly.

I took one final look at my father, and his eyes flickered to me with slight hesitation before he smiled. I couldn't tell if it was genuine or not, but judging from the kind of person he'd been to me, I knew it wasn't.

Mr. Greg turned towards me and asked, "Do you need anything else? Is this all that you have to take with you?"

All I could do was nod.

"Very well then." He said. "Let's go. We have a long drive ahead of us."

And with that, I followed them, knowing my life would no longer be the same again.
