The Princess’s Broken Alpha -
Chapter 51
Zion knew the moment she left. He felt the insurmountable pain coursing through him when she took his heart with her. More than that she took his soul. She'd ripped it out and left him with nothing.
The further away she moved the more it increased and he could barely catch his breath, his words to her before she left was choking him. He sat in the quiet room for what he knew was hours but time felt like it stood still. He was consumed by her. She had come and taken all the pain away. She'd made him alive again and gave him something to hold onto in this world. He could still smell her hair and see her smile. He closed his eyes and it felt like she was still there with him.
He never thought she would lie to him or try to deceive him but here they were. He had hoped that after what he had been through she wouldn't have but here was history repeating itself. He felt like there had been instances where she could have come clean and told him the truth and yet he understood. He'd lashed out at her. He should never have spoken to her that way. Kiarra or Anastasia didn't deserve it. What could he do with a Lycan Princess? She was more than he had ever bargained for. Being a Lycan was one thing but then being with the Lycan Princess was a whole other level. The moon goddess must be playing some cruel trick of fate on him. He just couldn't get a break and yet he needed her more than air. Why would the moon goddess pair a powerful Lycan princess with a wolf in a wheelchair? What could he offer her?
He missed her warmth and everything felt cold. Now the more he thought about it the more it made sense she was royalty. There was something about her, the way she moved or talked. It held more than just authority. Zion didn't know about becoming king or anything else much for that matter but he knew one thing for sure. He loved her more than anything and he would continue to love her more than anything. The way he loved her couldn't be explained. "I was scared"
There was genuine fear in her eyes and it made his wolf aggressive, he didn't want his mate to be afraid. She had risked a lot for him, she had even protected him at the risk of lying to him and he'd let her go with the Lycan not to mention his cruel last words to her. He should have never let her leave with him. He couldn't bear the thought of her anywhere near him. Fucking Castor. He clenched his teeth furious in anger hoping he didn't put his paws on her. No matter that Castor was a more suitable candidate she chose him. She didn't care. She had defied the odds and chose him. She loved him.
What if she didn't come back?
He had told her it was finished. What if she accepted it and let him go. She said she would fix it but fix what exactly. He had a terrible feeling and for the first in a long time he felt fear.
He hated that he'd let her go, moon goddess he should have never let her go. Why did he let her go?
His mind was reeling. It was the biggest mistake he'd made of his life. He ran a frustrated hand through his hair. He didn't have to think about it but he knew what he had to do and cursed under his breath. He had to stop by the house and grab his things quick. Samuel's large frame entered the room, his posture unsure about what he was about to thread into.
"You've been in here a while." barked Samuel. "She looked really messed up Zion"
Zion knew because he had felt it and he hated himself for it. His brother was not hiding his disappointment and Zion couldn't blame him. Samuel decided it was best he let him know since the truth was already out of the bag.
"She hated lying to you and was going to tell you after Christmas. She just wanted to have a good Christmas with you and she promised she would tell you after." Samuel defended. "She had every intention to and she would never even glimpse at anyone else. It's not even possible with the way she loves you. Even you don't buy that bullshit with him claiming her."
"You knew" Zion wasn't even surprised. It was more of a statement than a question and Samuel looked at him guiltily putting his hands in his pocket.
"Yeah it was a mistake. I found out when the guy attacked us and she begged me to keep it a secret, she was worried how you would react and she had a good reason to seeing how she left. For all the shit you could've given her a break. It's not like it wasn't warranted."
The pain and regret amplified in him even more. Zion headed for the door when Samuel stopped him
"Where are you going?" Samuel asked worried about what kind of state he would be in.
"
To get my heart back." Zion replied, resolutely.
"Okay, I'm coming with you" Samuel trudged after him and it stopped Zion in his tracks.
"You don't have to plus the pack would be better with you here to help run it. I don't know what to expect when I arrive at the palace and I can't have you risking your life."
"You think the king will have your head?"
Zion couldn't shake the image of fear in her eyes.
"I don't know but in case it all goes bad I need you here with Daniel. I would rather you stay for the pack."
"You have to be fucking kidding me " Samuel said determinedly. "I'm coming with you plus Daniel doesn't need a babysitter."
Samuel was definitely going not just for Zion but for Kiarra. Zion didn't argue with him. They stopped by the house so he could grab his things while Samuel sorted out their flying arrangements.
His eye caught on something placed on the bedside table. She had left him a Christmas present. He knew it was for Christmas and shouldn't be opened yet but he would take anything that she held or touched right now.
The bright shiny green and red wrapper was expertly wrapped. He tore the paper to see the edge of a board? He continued. It felt surreal. The more he pulled back the paper the more his heart tightened.
His fingers slowly removed the wrapper. He felt like he was in a trance. There was a card that came with his gift. It was three framed photographs of the two of them that she had harassed him to take one day with her phone. She was wearing a low neck white top and the more he looked the more he noticed that she had planned this. She looked so beautiful and incredibly happy; she was smiling while he was looking at the camera. However, she was staring at him. He'd seen that stare from her a lot but to have it stilled and examined was riveting for him. She was looking at him like he was her entire world.
He opened the card and read the words.
"To: My entire heart
Here's to beginnings and endings. I've noticed that you don't have any pictures so I decided these would be a good start. Yes? I love you like the sun loves the sky.
P.s I even got some small ones for your wallet just in case you might want to show off.
You're the best thing that has ever happened to me and I couldn't be any happier. Did I tell you I love you? I can't stop saying it. I love you."
Zion couldn't help the smile that spread across his face. Her eyes were full of so much light looking at him. She had her arms wrapped around him as he held her. He could still feel her delicate fingers. She was way too beautiful for him. He couldn't stop staring at the photo. They looked perfect. His eyes misted over and it took him a while before he took one of the small ones with him and headed out.
Samuel was waiting for him at the entrance.
"Daniel is fine with everything. Did you try calling her?"
"Yeah it's going straight to voicemail. She's probably flying by this time anyway. But I know who I can probably call if she still doesn't answer." "Who?"
"Vivienne Reviere or rather her aunt."
No wonder she was so interested and her voice was laced with disappointment. She clearly didn't want him for her niece. He didn't know but maybe she'd help him see her.
In the next couple of hours, they were soaring through the sky with Samuel across from him. That's when he felt it. He knew exactly what it was the moment he felt it. Their connection had already been made. That's when Zion lost it, someone had hurt his mate.
