Kiarra didn't sleep much. She had tossed and turned the entire night. It was still quite early and the sun had barely began to peak out against the sky. She was excited for what was to come later that evening. She couldn't deny that. She slipped on her sneakers and a hooded sweater. She needed a moment and she didn't want any guards following her. Her father had more guards than was necessary, following her every step and her every move. If she was suffocating before he made sure she couldn't breathe now. She was to go through with her mating and it would be flawless without any interruptions. She had to see her before tonight. It had been what felt like forever since she had been up there.

She exited the doors and headed downstairs. The place was deadly quiet. The kitchen was already in full swing with the delicious smell of breakfast along with the staff touching up the minor preparations for tonight. She had ten guards with her as she trudged across the lawn. It was more than a crowd and if she was determined she could have evaded them all, but it wasn't necessary.

The palace was beautiful but its grounds were even more beautiful. Even with barely any light on it was impressive. It was an expansive area that included a large forest, river and lake. Her sneakers were damp from the frosty morning dew and she stopped suddenly. "Wait here" she sternly instructed the ten man army behind her. The guards waited and watched as she walked up to the splendid structure. Her mother's mausoleum looked just the same with nothing out of place. She walked up the marble steps, the door was beautifully designed and there were an array of jewels twinkling about the door even in the barely lit early morning.

Up on the top written in fine writing were the inscriptions Celestia Anastasia Reviere. She pushed the glass doors open and walked over to her tomb. Inside looked brand new as well just the same with the usual fresh white orchids placed on top of it everyday. Her father had never forgotten. Not a day would go by that he wouldn't ensure that she had fresh white orchids on her tomb. It always amazed her.

She touched the white orchids and smiled. They were reminiscent of her mother. She loved white orchids a lot. Her mother Celestia was just like the flower, beautiful, elegant and pure. Her only fault was being mated to her father and even in that she couldn't be blamed. The moon goddess had tied their fates together and down the rabbit hole she went.

She climbed up and laid down across the cool marble. She decided to speak despite the fact that ten men were outside listening intently to her. She didn't care. She laid there for a while in the silence just enjoying being there.

"I always thought you would be here for this." Kiarra swallowed as she looked up at at the ceiling. She breathed in deeply and her voice came out stronger this time but it still cracked.

"That you'd be here to fuss over my hair and dress, to give me away and share motherly advice. We were supposed to do things that mothers and daughters do you know. This was supposed to be one of the happiest days of my life with you in it. We'd discuss my mate and you'd tell me all the things I would be naive about when it comes to men."

She absent mindedly touched her neck as her voice broke the silence in the room. She looked at the head of the tomb as if she could see her there.

"Yo-You promised you'd be here when it was time. Then again you also promised to protect me always. Mom I thought you'd live forever. I can still remember what your hair smells like and feel your hugs. You said as long as I lived you'd be with me forever. I have to confess that I can still see you when I close my eyes and it makes me not want to open them ever. I miss you mom."

She felt like she was twelve again when her mother had died. She had made a promise to herself after that to be strong. She would try to be the opposite of what everyone had whispered her mother was in that moment that caused her to die; weak.

The vivid image of her lifeless flashed in her mind but it didn't bring her sadness and horror like it did when she was younger. It had terrified her mind then, everytime she closed her eyes it was all she would see. Now that she was grown it didn't scare her any more. When it didn't anymore she had found herself in her early teens closing her eyes and examining it over and over to see if there was something she had missed, something she would finally see that her younger mind didn't. She was desperate to replace something to excuse the truth that had been right before her young impressionable eyes.

Her mother and her father were fated mates. It was a lucky and publicised event to have a fated mate from two powerful Lycan families. It made no sense to lie there dwelling on what should have happened and the past. She would soon be picking the man of her dreams.

"Will I ever be as good a queen as you?" Kiarra asked out loud.

She laid there for a while longer in silence waiting for a response she knew would never come until the sun lit up the mausoleum streaming through the windows. She had to go get ready. She had a long day ahead of her. Her event was one the entire beast kingdom was waiting for with bated breath. She would therefore give them a show. It will be a show they'll never forget.
