Kiarra was in for a surprise. The moment they reached the pack house Zion's mother was squealing at the top of her lungs. Zion scoffed in the car and Samuel looked indifferent. She guessed they were used to it.

She was so glad to be back as she watched the small group of people waiting for them. Zion leaned in to the crook of her neck and she could feel his warm breath tickling her skin. She breathed in his deep masculine cologne and instead of watching them, Zion was analyzing her. He held her hand firmly in his and kissed the back of it as their car came to a stop.

Naomi was a thin wiry woman with long flowing blonde hair that she recognized Zion got from her and light grey eyes. She was wearing a sunflower coloured dress that sweeped the ground which contrasted with her bright blonde hair. The dress was decked around the waist with a large brown belt that probably only she could pull off. His father on the other hand was almost as big as Samuel. He was serious, too serious looking, with deep green eyes like Zion's and the same coal black hair that his brothers had. They got out of the car and his mother made a show of bowing grandly before her and Kiarra felt a little embarrassed because she was his mother and absolutely not needed.

"Oh my God" Zion grumbled loudly.

"What?!" Naomi flashed her hair behind her in indignation." I didn't know if I should bow or not?! When do I get to meet royalty? I would know what to do if you would speak to your mother every once in a while but no, as usual you've been completely selfish breaking your poor mother's heart especially in her old age!"

Naomi was beautiful for her age and apart from the few wrinkles at the side of her eyes and fewer dull patches of hair at her temples she didn't look as old as she was making her self sound. She was going in, not stopping to even catch a breath.

"You'd think it would be the least you could do seeing as I pushed your big headed ass out but if only I'd known you would grow up so ungrateful. He used to call me three times a day as I instructed. Now I can barely get one out of him."

Samule ducked his head around the car. Kiarra could see Zion roll his eyes in her peripheral vision and she wanted to slap him. His mother sounded sweet, like she just wanted to see and spend time with them.

Naomi sighed heavily and smoothed out her dress to close the gap between them and head towards Kiarra.

"Now you're going to make her think I'm the big bad wolf for her first impression of me. I will never forgive you for embarrassing me in front of a princess."

Kiarra held in a laugh.

"Will you let go of her hand and give her some space so I can properly look at her? Moon Goddess you'd think she was going to disappear."

All eyes were now on Zion. Zion didn't seem to be going to budge and Kiarra didn't know if an argument was going to start or not so she pulled her hand out of Zion's getting an annoyed look from him to properly greet his mother. His mouth was set in a thin firm line as he impatiently waited to the side.

Naomi's grey eyes focused on her as she looked her over with her mouth slightly opened.

"Well well well. Wow." she breathed out." Beautiful is an understatement. Are you sure you want to go ahead with Zion?"

"Mom!" Zion shouted warningly.

"We asked the same thing." Samuel added mischievously, closing the car door after lugging the bags out.

His father took the moment to come up to introduce himself giving Kiarra a bright smile and looping arm around Naomi's waist but Naomi still wasn't letting it go.

"I'm just saying he's very hard headed, you know he gave me the most trouble growing up.You'd think he'd let his mother be more involved in his life as repentance." she shouted incredulously.

" Hi, I'm Alpha Zeus"

"Hi, it's very nice to meet you" Kiarra replied warmly.

He went in to give her a hug but Naomi kindly swatted him away to hug her first and everyone laughed.

"You can't hug her before me Zu. Come here dear. I need to be able to brag to my friends that I was the first one to hug her and actually be honest about it. Imagine when they hear its Zion you're mated. They'll have a field day."

Her hug was warm and solid and she smelled floral. She pulled back to hold her shoulders. Kiarra then finally got to hug his dad who was solid as a wall.

"I'm so happy to meet you and I'm also more than happy you decided to give my son a chance, accepting him as he is. Believe it or not I do love him dearly, too much I'm afraid to say." she glared at Zion who was over it all, his face looking blank. She focused back on her with a warm smile. They chatted for a little while with Naomi making sure to let Zion know she was annoyed with him not talking to her more.

"You know he's had a hard time but he has a really good heart." Naomi whispered to her though they could all hear with their hearing.

The net excitement came from Lisa who complained about how much she missed her.

"I missed everything, the shopping, the chatting, everything" dragging her inside. Zion wasn't happy, but it would give him some time to catch up with his mother and family.

They went inside where his mom had personally prepared dinner. She did a whole full three course meal that looked like it could feed fifty people. It was definitely a family gathering, something she wasn't really used to. As they went to sit around the table Zion tugged her towards his lap, pulling her before him..

"I can't sit in your lap in front of your parents!" she mind linked him.

He insisted Samuel take her chair and Kiarra finally gave in. Nobody seemed to care and she was relieved for that.

"Can you believe I asked your father for a drop top convertible and he says I always make a scene and scream every time he winds down the car window about my hair so why on Earth would I want an open roof car?"

Everybody laughed as Alpha Zeus rubbed her shoulder.

"You know I'm not lying. You would be over it in a week Nai."

She didn't notice Zion was talking to her until he tilted her chin bringing her face towards his.

"Are you okay?" he asked, concerned.

"Yeah why?"

"Nothing." he nodded, massaging my lower back comfortingly but his look of concern didn't drop.

The family dinner continued with them talking about everything, from the Christmas party to catching up on the pack's progress. His mother told hilarious stories of the three of them and it filled her heart with happiness to hear what he was like as a child. Kiarra had the most fun she had in a long time and she couldn't remember ever laughing so much. His mother was amazing and she would see if she could get him to talk to her more.

When they finally left to head home she was quiet the entire time. The place was like a beacon for her and she walked fast to get inside its doors. It got worse when she avoided eye contact with Zion the entire time and headed in the bathroom saying she was going to shower. Kiarra took quite a while in there and he sat outside waiting for her. He contemplated going in there if she didn't come out. She marched out still avoiding him completely. Before she went into the bed she looked at him and gasped surprised as if just being aware of him waiting there for her.

It was as if she made up her mind that she couldn't avoid him. She hurriedly made her way to him and when she sat in his lap she hugged him tight smelling of soap. He suddenly felt the warm tears soaking into his shirt followed by her racking sobs. "Hey hey hey" he tried to calm her down. He was wrecked to see her cry. He wiped away the tears. "What's wrong?"

He had felt something was wrong especially during dinner, but he didn't think it was to this extent. He should have just headed straight home.

"Was the dinner too much?" Zion asked softly.

"No, that's not it. It was perfect."

"Then what is it?"

She couldn't stop the tears. Kiarra felt like a dam had broken.

"I'm listening" he kissed her forehead, his eyes compelling her to talk to him.

"I-It's just seeing your family and how happy and beautiful it is. I was so happy and everything felt good. You have so many people around you who love you. I just feel like every one I have either betray me or leave. She was right."

This was different for Zion that she was being so vulnerable with him. She was fully opening up to him.

"She who?" he asked.

She needed to get the weight off of her so she decided to tell him everything. "Vivienne. She's dead."

"What?"

"She was the one who t-tried to kill me. She sent the Lycan guard to kill me. She was the closest thing I had to a mother after my mother died and she hated me. She said I didn't deserve any love or happiness" she swiped at her tears as Zion listened to her. "When I was twelve I-I found my mom hanging by her neck in her bedroom. It looked like a suicide but it was Vivienne that had her killed. She was in love with my father and so she used a witch to help her. All those years she was just pretending with me." It was rare for werewolves to commit suicide and for those rare times it was wolves who were rejected by their mate who couldn't suffer the rejection and pain.

She sat up straight to face him placing both hands on the side of his face.

"If I tell you this will you promise me not to do anything?" Kiarra asked, searching his face and Zion felt all his hair stand on end.

"You know I can't make that promise when it comes to you," he gruffly replied to her.

Kiarra didn't contemplate whether she needed to tell him. She just needed to let it out.

There was a silence as he waited but nothing came from her.

"Kiarra" he urged and she held her head down picking at the edge of his shirt.

"My father beats me"

Zion felt like all the air had left his body and his blood ran cold. Nothing could ever prepare him for that.

She couldn't stop now and it all came flowing out of her. From the very first to the last and how he was better now that she had Indigo help her counteract whatever her aunt had done. She told him everything, even him almost beating her to death when she returned from being with him.

When she finished Zion was scarily quiet just staring at her but she was so relieved to have gotten it out. It felt like a weight had lifted off her shoulders. He saw the fresh tears escaping her eyes and he pulled her in, holding her. He soothingly rubbed her back as she laid her head against his chest listening to his heart going so fast she was worried.

"You deserve all the love and happiness, you deserve everything. And you will always have me forever. Kiarra I love you and that for you will always be constant. It will never change." he said harshly.

He kissed her hard and she believed everything he said.
