The Rebel
Chapter 5

… … ….. Vera Red’s point of view … ….

I’ve hated the idea of having a partner since the day I saw my father raise his hand against my mother.

And my mother did nothing in return.

The way he claimed his right over her, not caring if she was ready or not.

Thinking she was his to do with as he pleased, without anyone questioning him.

And for so many years, this conviction has only grown stronger.

Alpha’s are all the same, except for the worst.

And that was reason enough to despise them.

“At least get to know your mate first.”

My wolf spoke and I looked up at the man who was my supposed mate.

The Alpha of the wolves I’d shot yesterday.

His gray eyes were cold and emotionless. A face beautifully sculpted by the moon goddess.

That black hair was gelled to perfection and a casual shirt showed off his muscular forehead.

I felt a sudden heat rise in me and clenched my fist.

The shit had started.

The shit everyone calls “companion bonding”.

“Hello companion.”

His voice sent shivers down my spine. His heavy voice echoed in my heart.

He moved closer and his cologne made me hold my breath.

This could confuse my senses even more, I couldn’t afford it.

Rosie’s grip on my shirt tightened and I realized what situation we were in.

He was out to get this territory, and there was no way I was letting him have it.

I didn’t care if he was my mate or not.

“Leave us alone, Rosie,” I said, moving my head to the side.

She was reluctant, her eyes moving between the Alpha and me.

“But…”

“Leave us,” I said in my cold voice, leaving no room for negotiation.

She swallowed and her grip on my shirt loosened.

Nodding, she left us alone.

Certain that we were alone, I kicked the door shut and shoved my hands into the pockets of my leather jacket.

Leaning my back against the wall, I looked back at him.

Only to discover that they were looking at me too.

His eyes were looking me up and down.

I’m dressed like this, but in black, my favorite color.

Black jeans, a black shirt and a black leather jacket over that.

My combat boots are added to it.

His gaze stayed on my neck a little longer and his eyes darkened.

Was it desire or anger, I didn’t know.

The latter was preferable anyway.

Before I could speak, he was already approaching me.

His jaw hardened as he held my gaze.

“Name and pack?” he asked, and I scoffed. Did he really think he was going to ask and I was going to answer?

He wanted the territory, not me.

He had nothing to offer me.

And I owed him absolutely no answer.

I headed for the Alpha’s seat in the office.

I put my feet up on the table, and looked at him boredly.

“My name is none of your business. My pack is the one you’re in right now, and as for the deal you’ve come to propose?”, I said, straightening my back and glaring at him.

“I’m afraid I don’t agree with that.”

His jaw contracted further.

His aura became more deadly.

He said nothing, didn’t even argue with me.

His silence made me uneasy.

Wasn’t he offended? Alpha never took disrespect lightly, so why was he so silent.

“Here’s the door. You can go, Alpha Logan. I’ve got important work to do.”

With that, I pulled out some papers and started reading them.

I tried to ignore him as my she-wolf yelled at me to look at him, to admire his mate.

He didn’t move, a few minutes passed in silence.

But nothing.

However, that burning gaze was still there.

He continued to stare at me while I ignored him.

Which made that burn in me rise again.

His gaze disturbed me. It even exasperated me.

Could this man stop staring at me? It had been 10 minutes now!

“Staring is rude, Alpha Logan. And I think our business is done here,” I said, raising an eyebrow at him. My pen stopped moving as I spoke to him.

“It isn’t when I stare at what’s mine.”

His words made something bubble in my stomach and I suddenly felt a warmth between my legs.

F**k! What was that sensation?

“What about my business with you?”

He took another step closer to me.

I didn’t lower my legs, not letting him think I was troubled by his closeness.

His eyes moved to my feet on the table, then to my face.

A smirk played on his lips as he moved even closer, coming to rest beside my seat.

Before I could ask him to stop, he suddenly grabbed my ankles in his strong grip and pinned them down.

Preventing me from moving.

I moved my hands to pull him away, but the rotating seat lost its balance and I fell back onto the headrest.

He took the opportunity to pin my hands above my head with his second hand.

Holy shit! He was damn strong.

I squirmed to move the seat. He looked at me coldly, the smile no longer on his lips.

“In my opinion, nothing’s over.”

My anger soared and I stared at him in fury.

But he didn’t seem perturbed.

“What do you mean, bastard?”, I asked and he leaned closer to whisper in my ear.

That tingling sensation was back when his breath hit my neck.

“We both know what I mean, my companion. The fluttering in your stomach and the discomfort between your legs are just the beginning.”

I froze as the tingling inside me exploded again this time. I closed my eyes and breathed heavily.

This was bad! What the hell was going on?

And then, as I struggled to cope with these new feelings, I felt something soft touch my cheek and opened my eyes in shock.

Had he… Had he just kissed me?

His smiling face appeared before my eyes as he completely abandoned my wrists and legs.

He pulled away from me, looking like a bucket of water was being dumped on my burning body.

I stared at his broad back in shock, unable to believe what had happened, but he pulled up a seat and sat down.

“I’ve come here to settle some business, my companion. It’s okay if you don’t agree. But…”

He sighed before continuing.

“Let me warn you. You’ll be challenged. Not just once or twice, but a hundred times at least, and there’s no way the Alphas are going to be nice to you just because you’re a woman.”

“They’ll do whatever it takes to get that territory.”

I straightened up, snapping out of my state of shock.

Swallowing the saliva stuck in my throat, I glared at him.

“I’m aware of their plan, Alpha. I knew what I was getting into before I took this job.”

He nodded as he stood up.

“Since you seem to know everything already. I won’t explain any further.

My congratulations on being the new Alpha and my apologies for the attack earlier.”

He was leaving?

That easy?

I thought he was going to try to convince me or even force me to accept.

Before turning to leave, he looked at me for one last time.

“And if you need any help. You know where to replace me. The gates to my territory aren’t open to strangers, but what about you? They’ll always be wide open. Hold that close to your heart!”

Was he worried about me?

About help? I’d die before I’d ask him for help.

I could fully take care of everything, I didn’t need him.

“And Vera. Don’t lock your bedroom door tonight. I’ll come and see you.”

How did he know my name? My eyes fell on the sheet of paper in his hands with my signature on it, and I swore in my head.

He was grinning victoriously.

What the hell!

Was this guy crazy?

And what did he mean by keeping my doors open!

Before I could open my mouth to retort, he was already gone.

Leaving me in a state of shock.

But who was this man? And what was he doing to me!
