The Rebel -
Chapter 53
She was a diamond burning in the flames.
Ruining the shine of her exterior grace.
But they don’t know that it doesn’t matter how much heat he endures.
A real diamond never splits.
… … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … .. … …
The arena was surrounded by people, with rays of hope in their eyes.
The girl they had accused and cursed stood there, head held high, protecting them when they had only dishonored her, wishing her dead.
His forehead was stained red, the whip marks bleeding profusely. But, she didn’t seem to care.
The marks on her back and the fire in her eyes told them she was no ordinary woman.
She wasn’t going to give in that easily.
She was indeed strong.
But strong enough to fight this infernal beast or not, a question that would only be answered when they attended.
The beast attacked first, in its human form only. And she successfully deflected it, causing it to skid across the ground behind her.
A smirk formed on his lips.
” Impressive. You seem to be progressing, my love. »
He scoffed, but she didn’t respond, her eyes cold and emotionless as she turned to stare at him.
He attacked again, their arms intertwined. He tried to kick her when she tightened the lock on his arms and turned around, causing him to fall to the ground, leaving him breathing heavily.
This continued, both of them fighting as well as each other.
But, something inside him told Vera that he was stronger than her. She knew it, but he didn’t show it. It seemed like he was intentionally holding back.
But, the big question is why?
Minutes passed and Vera’s vision blurred for a second.
She shook her head and pulled herself together, but something was wrong, until Vera found her body going weak. His reflexes were becoming slow and his lungs were on alert.
He took the opportunity to pin her to the ground, grab her wrists and pin them above her head.
He showed a crooked smile.
“What happened, my love?” Do you feel tired? He
asked and she stirred, closing her eyes to calm her senses. She was trying to replace out what was going on.
He smiled, lowering his face to whisper close to her ear.
“The poison is spreading, my love. Your wolf may be awake, but she can’t stop it. I’m the only one who can do it. »
And that’s when she looked up at him with wide eyes. He was playing with her until now trying to gain time, he knew it was limited for her.
“That bastard!” »
He breathed close to her neck, smiling at her.
“Surrender yourself and I promise to save you.” After all, I can’t let my slave die, can I? »
She cursed at him and he smiled. He loved her fiery side.
His grip on her tightened and he became serious again.
“Did you think your pathetic companion could save you? Stop dreaming, Vera. Neither he nor your wolf can save you right now. Let me do it. »
He said this while looking at her.
“You….Can’t…”
He looked at her with soft eyes, his fingers caressing her cheek.
“All these years we have loved each other so much, Vera… We made this poison together to rule this world… I was your destined mate, Vera… I am the only one who can save you. »
“What did he say?” » She was confused.
“Yes, Vera… We are reincarnated… Our souls… We are meant to be together. »
“No…. No… You’re lying. »
“Why am I lying, my love? Your body… it still has that poison and Elysium, yet you’re alive. You’re breathing when anyone else would be dead right now. Such great intolerance… Just like mine… Vera. We are alive because we made it… Our body is the first it was experimented on all those centuries ago… We were made for this Vera… My body is used to this now. .. But yours is still fighting… The poison is still spreading. Let me help you, Vera…”
Sincerity was evident in her eyes, but she knew that a man like him should never be trusted.
” No ! I can… never be like you…! »
“You won’t live on this, Vera. Your body is too weak to handle it. However, I have a solution for this. »
He moved lower, his breath hitting her neck as he sniffed her.
“Let me mark you.” »
She didn’t know what happened to her next.
Her wolf is awake and she has found a sudden surge of power in her veins. The next second, Benjamin had been thrown out of her, hitting the tree behind. His breathing becoming heavy.
” Never ! I will never be your toy again! »
Her voice changed, it was as if her wolf was speaking. Vera didn’t know what was happening. She didn’t say it… The voice… She said it.
She was losing control of her own body… Where did this surge of power come from?
What the hell was happening to him?
Benjamin chuckled as he rose to his feet. He saw Vera’s eyes change color. Brown, then hazel, then brown again.
The crowd was surprised and backed away.
The aura of the place changed suddenly.
It was darker and more deadly.
“I see you remember me now…princess.” »
Benjamin’s words raised a storm of fury within her. She didn’t know what was happening. Why did she feel like that…? Something was rising inside her.
“How can I forget my own companion? There was
sarcasm in his own voice, as if the word companion was a joke.
” Companion ? Who is this person… Who is talking… It’s definitely not me… ”, thought Vera, confused and afraid.
The crowd screamed in horror, but no one moved.
” Hey ! It’s you ? What is happening ? »
Vera asked her wolf desperately, but she only heard a low growl in return. It was the first time she was afraid of herself.
Her body was no longer under her control, she didn’t know what to do.
” Trust me. »
That’s all her wolf said and Vera couldn’t help but be relieved.
This was the first time she was afraid of the power of her own wolf, the aura was nothing she had experienced before. But she trusted him, no matter how dangerous her own wolf seemed right now, she trusted him with her life.
Benjamin stood up and shifted into his wolf form, growling at her.
But his wolf refused to submit.
Straightening her back, she looked him in the eyes.
Then, without warning, he attacked. They faced each other in the middle of the arena and people watched the fight in horror.
The thugs were too distracted to see the movement behind them.
His claws scratched her tender skin, his strikes and punches were slow but powerful. The human body was losing the fight,
The torment and suffering reappeared, the atrocities that this man committed on her in her previous life, made her scream at him and claw at his chest and abdomen.
He screamed in pain, staggering back and clutching his injured torso. The fire in his eyes, burning brighter as he saw his fur covered in his b***d.
The urge to take his b***d was strong and raw.
Moving quickly, he collided his huge body with his small human body. Her small form was thrown into the air to smack against the bark of a tree. A pained cry left her lips as she stood still.
His head bled and his vision became blurry.
The crowd gasped, feeling their only hope slip away. The fear of death becoming prominent in their eyes, the fire of hope in their eyes that burned with a strong flame earlier, now flickering.
The beast didn’t wait for her to recover.
He pounced on her and growled at her. Baring his teeth and shouting at him.
“Women are weak… You can’t defeat me.
“Submit!” »
Her eyes changed color, then back to dark brown…showing that her wolf was struggling for control, the dark veins extending up her neck. And he knew he had to do it.
“No…. Don’t…”
His voice was more of a whisper this time. A helpless tear left her eyes.
But he didn’t stop.
With a mighty howl, he extended his fangs and looked down at her victoriously.
His enormous form pinned her beneath his weight.
Smiling sickly, he lowered his head and the women and men in the crowd screamed.
While the thugs had a look of victory.
Before the beast’s canines could touch it, a sound of wind was heard and an arrow hit the beast’s chest, causing it to scream in agonizing pain and step back.
Vera was busy regaining control, her wolf was weak, but determined not to lose.
Despite the searing pain in her head and excruciating pain in her heart, she looked at her savior and froze for a second.
The crowd fell silent after seeing the source of the arrow.
There he stood, the man she had despised her entire life, the man who brought her into this world and made her hate him with every cell in her body.
He had dark circles under his eyes, eyes cold as ice, just like she had seen him last time.
Only now his hair had turned gray and his face looked older.
Those eyes staring at her gently.
The same eyes she saw when she first opened her brown eyes in this world.
His father’s eyes.
The crowd immediately bowed, after all it was their former king who stood before them.
The king they thought was long dead.
But to their surprise, he was not alone.
“Zara?” »
Vera’s heart began to beat faster as she heard his name. It was his brother who said it, his eyes turned to him.
Arnold had a longing look in his eyes, he wanted to hold his lost sister in his arms and tell her everything would be okay.
She gulped as she saw the army behind them.
There were thousands of them surrounding the thugs and the Arena.
Reinforcements have arrived.
But it was more than the reinforcement she expected. It was an army made up of the strongest packs in the world.
Alongside her father and brother stood the people she never thought she would see again.
People she couldn’t afford to say goodbye to, knowing she was dying.
Alpha Kane, Beta Ben, Rosie.
They stood there, staring at her, telling her to be strong.
And that’s when a m**n left his lips.
They were all together, fighting evil with her.
She wasn’t alone.
Too distracted, she didn’t realize that Benjamin had gotten up.
Rushing at her, his body froze as he was inches from her trembling form.
Her eyes widened and she screamed.
His claw was inches from his face.
But before he could touch her, she saw a large shadow above her.
The beast was thrown into the air and rolled across the ground, landing on a tree. …
Her wide eyes met the calm brown eyes of her companion who was looking at her.
Offering her his hands, he helped her stand.
His other hand steadied her.
” Are you doing well ? »
She nodded lyingly, refusing to look at him. When he pulled her towards him, the tingles exploded at his touch.
“Stop lying, Vera. »
There was something else… He wasn’t just referring to that… She could see the hidden message in his eyes… Sadness and disappointment, but at the same time hope and hope. pride.
His hand rested on the wound behind his head and he closed his eyes, healing it in an instant.
She felt the pain in her head ease and her vision return to normal.
Swallowing, she looked up at him.
His mouth opened and closed, not knowing what to say…
His next words made his heart beat rapidly in his chest.
“You forgot that, Vera. »
He placed the Rebel’s dagger in her hands and she looked up at him, shocked.
” He is aware ? But how ? »
“Logan, I…”
“Shhh.” »
He said as he placed his hand on her head and looked into her eyes.
She expected him to hate her…to judge her, but instead he seemed calm, with a small, encouraging smile on his lips.
He simply nodded at her, wrapping his fingers around the dagger so she held it.
“Let them know, Vera. Let them all know who you really are. »
That’s all he said in his Alpha voice.
Her hands shook as she looked at the beautifully crafted dagger.
His wolf stirred in his mind again, begging to be released.
And that’s when she knew.
The time had come. She had to do it.
Tightening her grip on the dagger, she nodded at Logan and he smiled.
He turned to look at the army surrounding them.
Raising his hand in the air, he took a deep breath.
The words he spoke caused chaos in the arena and the wolves howled in unison.
” To attack ! »
And with that, the real war began.
