The Sweet Pursuit by Golden Autumn -
Chapter 13
Suzy got up, saw the dart on the table, and glanced at the target. She raised her hand and threw it, hitting the bullseye!
Just as her third dart hit the bullseye, Ean looked up with surprise in his eyes.
Suzy picked up the darts with her left and right hands at the same time, throwing them out without looking at them. The two darts flew at the same speed, squeezing out the previous darts and piercing into the bullseye at the same time. Ean stood up, walked over to Suzy, and looked at her from the side. "Did you have training?"
Suzy raised her eyebrows, declining to comment.
Ean grew interested and said, "Teach me."
Suzy wrapped her hands around her chest and pointed to the desk. "I'll teach you once you're done with today's work!"
Ean snorted, "Can't you change your tactics?"
Suzy shrugged. "I'm out of options too. I can't get kicked out of your house after coming for the second time on the grounds of incompetence. I'd like to keep my honor."
Ean was disdainful. "Truthfully, I can ask my uncle to teach me. He's better than you!"
"Then ask your uncle to teach you the trick. Let's see if he's willing, hmm?" Suzy was confident in this. If George had the inclination to teach him, why would he wait until now?
A look of embarrassment flashed across Ean's face. He seemed to consider it before nodding. "Fine. I'll go along with your lessons, but once I'm done, I want you to teach me archery. Can you?" "Archery?" Suzy frowned slightly.
Ean showed hints of smugness. "So, you can't do it? My uncle's a crack shot!"
"Who said that I can't? Just do your revision before we talk further!" Suzy walked to the desk.
"What if you're lying to me? Throwing darts and archery are two different things!" Ean provoked.
Suzy paused and turned around. "If I'm lying to you, you can be my teacher instead!"
"That's settled, then!"
Suzy squinted and smiled, the morning sunlight spreading a gentle golden light on her fair and soft face.
...
Perhaps due to the family's excellent genes, Ean was very smart and was able to learn things quickly. An hour later, the two of them had finished their revision and were standing on the lawn of the villa.
Since Ean said he wanted to play archery, the butler asked people to arrange the venue in advance. There were moving targets, bows and arrows, as well as protective gear.
Ean put on the protective gear and looked at Suzy questioningly. "Can you even hold a bow and arrow? Don't force yourself. If you admit defeat now, all you have to do is call me Mr. Ean. It'd be more embarrassing if you can't shoot a single arrow later!"
Suzy smiled and said, "It'll be more embarrassing to give up without trying!"
She picked up the bow and arrow, stood up straight, drew the bow, and aimed.
Suzy had not shot an arrow in a long time. Looking at the target in the distance, her memory overlapped with the present moment. She was in a trance for a second. Swoosh! The long arrow pierced the air as the wind howled. Then, there was a loud sound from hitting the bullseye!
Ean cheered and ran over immediately. "How'd you do that?!"
Suzy smiled calmly and said, "How'd I do, hmm?"
"Teach me!"
"I can teach you, but you have to promise me that every time I come in the future, you'll study and not try to delay time!" Suzy took the opportunity to raise a condition. Ean was so focused on wanting to learn archery that he quickly agreed.
On the balcony facing the lawn on the third floor, George was leaning lazily against the rail. He was listening to the phone, but his eyes fell on the two people who were shooting arrows on the lawn.
Suzy hit the bullseye again. Her picturesque appearance was graceful, and the spring sunshine shone on her fair and soft face. Suzy's whole person seemed to be more alive and bright.
George hung up the call, stood there, and watched for a while. He saw that Suzy had shot three arrows, all of which hit the bullseye.
Ean was so excited that he was about to jump up and down while looking at Suzy with admiration.
George narrowed his eyes slightly. He had seen Suzy kick Tiffany before, and she said that she practiced self-defense when she was a child. However, was her ability in archery also out of self-defense?
...
Suzy played with Ean for an hour. It was almost noon, so she packed her things and headed home.
When she came down from the second floor, Sena happened to be carrying something into the door.
Sena stared at Suzy for a moment, and her face sank at a visible speed. George actually brought her home?!
Was he being serious?
"So, we meet again!" Sena handed the gifts she had gotten for the Laine family to the maid and took two steps forward. She appeared to be smiling, but her eyes were cold.
Suzy nodded slightly and walked out the door.
"Wait a minute!" Sena stopped Suzy's footsteps. She looked at Suzy from top to bottom and raised her chin slightly. Then, she spoke in a rather arrogant yet elegant tone, "With a family like the Laine family, it's impossible for George to marry a woman from an ordinary family like you. Do you understand?" Suzy suddenly let out a smile.
Seeing Suzy smiling as if she failed to understand her, Sena calmed down and continued, "I've always been a straightforward person and don't like beating about the bush. You and George won't end up together, and I think you know this yourself. Why are you with George? Is it for money? How much do you want? I can give it to you!"
Suzy's eyes were crystal clear. She looked like a girl who knew nothing of the world. "Will you pay me more than what George is giving me now?"
Sena immediately said, "How much did he give you? I promise to give you even more!"
Suzy seemed to ponder it for a while. "15 million dollars and I won't come here in the future anymore. How does that sound?"
Sena was stunned for a moment, then suddenly raised her head to look behind Suzy. "Did you hear that, George? She's with you just for the money!"
Suzy's heart skipped a beat. She suddenly turned her head to meet George's gaze. The man was standing in the middle of the stairs.
The man was wearing a thin beige shirt and brown casual trousers. He looked a little less cold than usual and more languid. Every single one of his gestures was exuding with nobleness and elegance that seemed to come from his bones. Suzy could hear the woman next to her getting her breath stolen. She smiled slightly. She had to admit that this man's appearance was utter perfection.
George walked down slowly. His dark eyes continued to look at Suzy. Then, he said to her with a low and magnetic voice, "I'll take you back."
Sena's facial expression quickly changed, and she looked at George in disbelief. "Didn't you hear what she said just now?"
George's expression appeared aloof, showing zero emotions. "I did, and so?"
"Ha!" Sena let out a sneer, took a deep breath, and remained graceful. "The two of you aren't suited for one another, George!"
George was getting a little impatient. "I know very well whether or not we're suited for one another."
After he was done talking, George looked at Suzy and said in a lowered tone, "Shall we?"
"Okay." Suzy nodded and went out the door first.
Sena stood there, watching the two go out one after the other. She suddenly felt like a fool.
Due to this incident, George personally drove Suzy back. She sat in the back and watched the scenery outside the car flash by quickly. Thinking back on today's little situation, she inexplicably wanted to let out a laugh. George looked into the rearview mirror and suddenly asked, "What are you smiling at?"
