The unwanted wife’s unexpected comeback -
Chapter 68
Chapter 68:
? ? ? ? ?
Alicia tried to pull away from Caden. “Just a casual question,” she said, trying to regain some distance.
Caden laughed softly, unfazed by the blow he had received earlier. Nothing seemed to bother him.
I leaned in slightly, breathing in Alicia's scent.
His movement brought their skin into contact, and his cool lips lightly brushed her cheek. The contact lingered, a reminder of the tension in the air.
Alicia, trying to amuse the conversation, asked, “That punch was meant for me. Why did you help me?” She had always assumed that Caden didn't appreciate her.
His answer was vague. “Instinct.”
Alice was silent for a moment.
She thought about pressing him, asking him why his instincts had led him to protect her, but something held her back. She felt too uncomfortable.
And with someone like Caden, she knew she wouldn't get a straight answer anyway. He would most likely just make fun of her.
The moment passed and Alice finished bandaging the wound.
“That's it, all set,” she said, ready to get out of the car. But Caden wasn't about to let her go. He pulled her close, holding her close.
“Where are you going?” he asked, his grip gentle but strong enough to keep her in place.
They were so close that Alice couldn't look away.
Her eyes were fixed on his.
She felt trapped, unable to look away from him. “I'll be back,” she murmured, unsure of herself under the intensity of the moment. She felt like she couldn't stay here, in this intimate space with Caden, without her mind wandering to those embarrassing dreams she'd been having.
Caden narrowed his eyes slightly. “Are you really going to walk out of here and go straight to Joshua’s bed?”
Alice instinctively shook her head. "No."
Her quick response didn't surprise him at all. “Why not?” Caden insisted.
Given their relationship, why wouldn't he?
Alicia searched for an excuse, but before she could respond, Caden interrupted her with a low laugh. “Because I’m better in bed, right?”
Her heart sank as she heard his words.
I couldn't deny it.
Caden's lips brushed her ear, his voice teasing. “How about we try again?”
A shiver ran through Alicia, her body reacting before she could stop it. She felt as if her breath had left her completely. “You're not upset that I just got off with Joshua?” Alicia asked, her voice wavering with uncertainty.
Caden laughed softly. “You're the one who came to me, remember?” His tone was merciless, stripping her of her doubts. “You're sitting on my lap and you're still wondering if this means anything?”
Alice felt a lump in her throat. She had no answer for him.
Resting her hands on her shoulders, she asked hesitantly, “Here?”
Outside, the rain was pouring down, thunder rumbling in the distance. The storm that was chasing him didn't seem to affect his mood at all. How could he think about this now, after everything that had just happened?
Without hesitation, Caden leaned in, kissing her before she could utter another word.
“Too uncomfortable in the car?” I have murmured between kisses. Even then, he managed to keep his composure, his voice soft and calm. “Pick to hotel. “I’ll replace the room.”
Alicia felt dizzy from the intensity of his kiss. Her mind was a whirlwind, and all the reasons why they shouldn't be doing this were blurring. She no longer thought about her past or their tangled relationship. The attraction between them was maddening, driving them both beyond control.
What caught her off guard was the realization that it consumed him as much as it consumed her. Something wild and hot was stirring between them.
When she came to, the cold air brushed her bare skin and she realized how far they had come. Caden moved easily, as if he had done it countless times before.
Alice was surprised. “When…?”
Her voice came out so soft it was almost a whisper, and she immediately bit her lip to keep from saying more.
At that moment her phone range, breaking the tension that had built up between them.
Alicia was slow to react, and by the time she realized what was happening, Caden had already picked up the phone and was handing it to her.
"He's your man," he said, with a deep, harsh laugh.
Her cheeks burned with embarrassment. She tried to pull away, but Caden's hand still held her firmly.
When the call connected, the words Alice was about to say caught in her throat.
Joshua's voice came through the phone. "Alicia, where have you gone?"
Alicia took a sharp breath, trying to calm her breathing. Just as she started to respond, Caden leaned down mischievously and pressed his lips against hers, silencing her.
His kiss was slow, teasing, but quiet enough that Joshua couldn't hear it.
Alicia weakly tried to push him away, her heart racing. Joshua, impatient at the lack of response, spoke again.
"Alice?"
With a hint of playful mercy, Caden pulled away just enough for her to breathe, and in her weariness, she let out a soft gasp.
The sound started her, causing her to freeze.
Caden's lips curved into a wicked grin. And so if to reward her slip, he leaned in and kissed her again, still holding her close.
Alicia, furious, bit Caden's lip, hard enough to draw blood.
He didn't flinch. In fact, the pain only made the glow in his eyes grow darker, more intense, like a caged predator ready to break free.
She took a ragged breath, covered her mouth with her hand, and picked up the phone.
“Joshua,” he rasps, making his voice sound fragile. “Can you come pick me up?”
Caden's hands roamed freely now, taking advantage of her distraction.
Alice stifled a moan.
Joshua's tone was sharp. "What are you doing?"
Alicia quickly added a sob to her voice. “I don’t feel well, Joshua.”
She made her voice sound like she was wrong, but Caden knew better. Every word she said was laced with genuine emotion, and he was the cause of it.
At that moment, his obsession with her only deepened. The urge to draw her closer, to have her there, nearly consumed him.
“What's wrong?” Joshua asked.
Alicia held her hand firmly over Caden's mouth, her voice shaking. “I caught a cold. I went out to get medicine, but now my stomach hurts. I can't move. Can you come get me?”
Joshua paused, his mind fixed on the sounds he had heard earlier.
His voice was full of doubt. “Where are you?”
Alice hesitated before replying, “I’ll send you my location.”
"Okay. I'm coming."
When the call finally ended, Alice exhaled deeply, feeling a wave of exhaustion wash over her.
The tension had drained from her, and even Caden's fervor seemed to have cooled.
He chuckled, his voice harsh. “Miss Bennett, that was quite a scene.”
