Chapter 70:

? ? ? ? ?

Alicia suppressed her discomfort and tried to avoid the situation. "I haven't been able to put on a pad yet and it could get messy. I don't want to leave a stain on you."

Joshua hesitated and moved to make room for her. Coming from a privileged background, I found anything messy unsettling. Not to mention that he was a hypocrite.

When Joshua left, Alicia pretended and retired to her bedroom. She picked up the phone and called Monica.

“Have you made any progress?” Monica asked.

Alice paused to think. “Sort of. Joshua didn’t seem suspicious.”

With that in mind, she felt confident that she could proceed at a steady pace. She was determined to execute her plan perfectly.

Alice turned around and sighed. “I used my period as an excuse today, but what about a week from now? What am I supposed to do then?”

In this area, she was really inexperienced. Joshua had her in the Yates mansion for his own enjoyment and sooner or later he would expect to sleep with her.

The idea rejected her. But after her period, what excuse could she use to avoid being touched?

Monica's voice lit up with excitement. "This is my specialty. Let me guide you on what to do."

Alice listened attentively, but soon she couldn't help but laugh. "Does such a thing really exist? You're quite a character, Monica."

Monica laughed lightly. “You know what I do, right? “I didn’t spend all those years in college for nothing.”

Alice snuggled into the blanket, feeling shy. “Thanks, honey.”

Monica caught the change in Alicia's tone. “Why does your voice sound so different? You've been with someone, right? It’s never been this soft before.”

Alice was momentarily speechless.

Even though she knew Monica couldn't see her, she instinctively covered her face with the blanket and asked, her voice muffled, "Do I still sound soft now?"

“Hmm?” Monica's voice rose playfully. “Why are you dodging the question? I must hit the nail on the head, huh?”

“Of course not!” Alice replied, feeling a pang of guilt. She quickly changed the subject. “What's keeping you up at this hour?”

“It's still very early! You’re nervous, aren’t you?” Monica pressed, determined to get to the truth. “Who are you with? Who is it? You’re even hiding it from me!”

Alice shook her off. “If you don't go to sleep, I will. Good night.”

Without another word, I quickly hung up the phone. Staring at the ceiling, he tried to calm his thoughts and focus on his next steps.

Since she was on her period, she was in no rush to confront Monica. She had other priorities to focus on during that time.

During their marriage, Alicia had entrusted all of her savings to Joshua. He had transferred various amounts from his account for investments and new ventures. She made money, but almost none of it went to household expenses. Most of it went to Lilliana.

Concerned with appearances, Joshua probably took steps to conceal any trace of having transferred money to him. However, no matter how clever he was, he could not eliminate all traces.

If she started with the bank, Alice was sure she could uncover some transaction records.

With this in mind, I felt renewed determination and set about investigating.

Since she was not an expert in the field, she proceeded slowly. She also had to remain discreet, so it took her three days to discover a clue.

The person closest to Joshua was Randolph Gray, the assistant manager of the bank he was investigating. Although Randolph's position was not the most prestigious, his family had an important background and wielded considerable influence. He could help Joshua with numerous dubious transactions.

The matter he wanted to investigate probably also involved Randolph.

Alicia meticulously plotted her plan and then deleted all the investigation information from her phone. After a heavy rain in late September, the weather suddenly turned cold.

Alicia discovered the beauty salon that Randolph's wife frequented and decided to take a chance there today. As she opened the door to leave, she saw Sheila entering with a package.

Sheila’s expression froze momentarily as she saw Alicia. “Can you at least make some noise when you walk?” Sheila replied. “Are you trying to give someone a heart attack?”

Alice instinctively looked at the package in Sheila's hand. Sheila's hand twitched as she tried to hide it, but after a second's thought, she figured Alice hadn't seen much of the world, so what was there to fear? She decided to let Alice have a look.

“It's hospital medication. Haven’t you seen it before?” Sheila said impatiently.

Alicia recognized it. After Jerald was admitted to the hospital, he started taking imported medication that was hard to get. The brand was correct. However, the logo looked slightly different than the one she remembered. It was a lighter color.

Alice instinctively considered the possibility that they might be cheap counterfeit drugs, but she couldn't be sure, so she remained silent.

"I'm going out for a while, Sheila. You don't need to make me dinner tonight."

Sheila looked at her suspiciously. “Where are you going?”

"I'm going to the beauty salon to get some pampering," Alice replied nonchalantly.

Sheila frowned. “Do you have any idea how much a visit to the beauty salon costs?”

“I really have no idea,” Alice said with a smile. “Why don't you ask Joshua?”

I have decided not to waste any more time and left.

The more Sheila thought about it, the angrier she became. She couldn't contain herself any longer and called Joshua to vent her frustrations. "Why are you spending so much money on her?"

Joshua sounded irritated. “Mom, I'm in a meeting. Please don’t call me unless it’s urgent.”
